How to Wear Bright Colors

This spring, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear this season’s hottest trends. From makeup tutorials to style tips, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas take runway trends and make them all their own.

This week, we’re welcoming Kacie from Regally Soled to show us how she playfully mixes bright colors with spring trends.

As if I needed another reason to anticipate the sunny days ahead, I can’t wait to bring some casual-cool, beachy vibes right here to the Midwest.

I love shaking up a basic outfit with some totally unexpected accessories. I started with three of spring’s most essential trends in grounding neutrals: a navy midi skirt (in the most comfortable stretch fabric ever), a white denim jacket and polka dot boat shoes. Then, I had a ton of fun picking out bright accessories that really made this outfit pop.

The Retro-Inspired Graphic Tank: Cotton tanks are one of the most comfortable things a girl can wear, but when you find one with a playful print, it also becomes a fashion statement. I love the pink and blue shadows behind the pineapple on this tank – an unexpected way to add even more color to your look.

Overstated Tassel Necklace: Once I picked out the graphic tank, I knew I wanted to find some tassel jewelry to mimic the pineapple top. I love this attention-grabbing necklace with tons of pink and orange tassels, dotted with yellow and blue stones. So. Much. Color.

Tassel Bracelets: I couldn’t help it – I was on a roll with tassels! I love the soft pinks in this multi-strand bracelet. I didn’t want to overpower the necklace with another intense bright, so this was the perfect way to complement my outfit without going too colorful.

Beaded Earrings: Finally, to pull out the blue in my tank, I chose some drop beaded earrings in cobalt, turquoise and white. Adding another warm tone would have been too much – blue was a great way to balance out my pink and orange necklace.

There you have it – an easy way to (finally!) start adding more colors to your wardrobe. To start building your own bright outfits, here are a few key tips to remember:

1. Start with neutrals. White, grey and navy are great colors to build from.

2. Pick one hero item and accessorize around it. Once I had the graphic tank picked out, it was easy to pick out pink and blue accessories.

3. Let your accessories coordinate, not match. Different shades of pink and blue made this look a little more playful than if I had used the same shade throughout.

I can’t wait to start adding even more color to my closet over these next few months – I hope you’ll join me in making your wardrobe a little brighter this season. Aloha, friends!
