This summer, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to showcase the season’s hottest trends. From style trends to home décor tips, we love seeing how these fashionistas celebrate the warm weather.
With the warm wear upon us, we’re all seeking clothing to keep us cool and comfortable, so this week we’re welcoming Steph from White Coat Wardrobe, Tawny from Glamorously Mommy and Andrea from blonde bedhead to share how they pick shorts that work best for their body shapes.
Whether you’re tall, short or in between, here’s tips from our bloggers on the right style of shorts to make sure you’re as comfortable as you are fashionable in this season’s hottest styles.
blonde bedhead: Short and Sweet
If you’re short, a higher waist and a shorter hemline can give the illusion of longer legs.
Being just under 5’4” tall, I struggle to find shorts that work for me! I was anti-shorts through college and vowed after graduation that I would take the time to find out what worked for me so I could rock shorts in the summer. And now I generally love a higher waist and a shorter hemline to give off the illusion of longer legs, so this pair by Soul Cake from Meijer is perfect. Plus adding a pair of wedges doesn’t hurt either!
I love a cozy pair of printed shorts that transition perfectly from cocktails with friends to a beach day. Though these can be worn lower on the hip, I chose to make them high waist. The floral print on this pair caught my eye immediately and can be dressed to be a bit more romantic like I styled here or toughened up with a black tank and pair of ankle boots.
White Coat Wardrobe: Playfully Bright
If you’re tall, a looser fit, lower waist and longer hemline can give you the coverage you’d prefer.
As the weather gets warmer, the hemlines usually get a little higher!
While I love shorts-weather, at nearly six feet tall, it can sometimes be a little tricky to find styles that are long enough for me. A Meijer store recently opened in my town, and I am SO thrilled with their revamped clothing section. I was able to find such a variety of styles when I went to shop; they had classic chino and denim styles, as well as fashion-forward styles that featured laser cuts, tassels and scallops!
I could not resist this NEON coral pair by Heart Soul! The color is so vibrant, and I love the scallop and laser-cut details. In addition, the elastic waistband is super comfortable and allows for extra chips, queso and margaritas (score!). For a date night look, I paired them with my favorite chambray top along with brightly hued accessories. I’m already planning to wear them with a black tee and silver accessories for a girls’ night out next week!
Glamorously Mommy: Casual Chic
If you’re plus size, a higher waist paired with a fitted graphic tee can accentuate your curves.
I’ve had a love-hate relationship with shorts for, well, as long as I can remember. Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of shorts, but the fit… I can’t sometimes. It seems like the older I get, I have a harder time finding the right fit.
But I found a pair of shorts at Meijer that I love. For once in my life!
I waltzed right into the plus size section originally looking for a pair of denim shorts, but when I saw these beautiful navy blue chiffon shorts by Heart Soul, I knew these were the ones. I love them for many reasons: they fit like a glove, they are basic but fancy with the perfect amount of detail, I can dress them up or down and they are so comfortable—which is VERY important to this mama!
I paired them with this cute “Think Happy Thoughts” high low tee (it’s my motto for everything) that’s also from Meijer. Oh and I found these cute gladiator heel on clearance last year from… you guessed it, Meijer! You should definitely head into Meijer and check out the wide range of shorts styles and sizes for everyone!
But don’t just take advice from us, wear what you love and feel confident doing it!
