I remember it just like it was yesterday…it was spring of 2012 when colored denim seemingly became an overnight sensation. I was living in New York City at the time and colored denim became my go-to wardrobe staple for nearly every possible occasion.

What I love most about colored denim is how it enables you to change things up and gives you the opportunity to live colorfully in the most simplistic way. As I began my summer to fall wardrobe transition, I realized that my denim department was majorly lacking the color it once had. Traditional blue jeans are great, but colored denim is a super easy way to give your wardrobe dynamic edge, especially in the fall/winter months.

Per the usual, I want to inspire you to be a bit more adventurous by sharing a few ways I’ll be incorporating colored denim into my fall wardrobe this year—and these are all available at Meijer!

Look 1: Wine Colored Denim

Maybe I am still on a color high for the 2015 Color of the Year, Marsala, but I believe nothing makes a bold statement quite like a pair of wine colored jeans. The richness of this tone screams versatility and definitely warrants frequent wears. Without a doubt, wine colored denim can be worn to the office and transition to an easy date night look by changing up the lip color and adding a fun graphic tee. For this particular date night look, I wanted to keep the focal point on the colored denim so I kept else everything relatively neutral.

Look 2: Earth Tone Colored Denim

No doubt, I often believe the brighter the colored denim, the better. But it’s equally important to have neutral tones in your denim collection as well, and shades like this almond pair are perfect for the fall.

To add more dynamic to this earth tone denim, I paired it with a black and white striped tee and a mustard yellow cardigan, which gave it a fall color block effect. And for a little juxtaposition, I completed the look with bronze gold backed by a blush stone earring.  I deem this look appropriate for a variety of occasions—perfect for casual Fridays at the office or Saturday brunch with your best girls.

Look 3:  Classic Black Denim

Much like a little black dress, black denim also exudes that classic, effortlessly chic vibe that every woman desires. When I think of black denim, Audrey Hepburn immediately comes to mind. With a desire to channel my inner-Audrey and create a look with clean lines, I paired the black denim with a sleeveless turtleneck and completed it by adding a golden accented statement necklace and simple marble studs. What I love most about black denim is how flattering it is—not only is it slimming, but it has the ability to make your legs look a million miles long. This is guaranteed to become a staple in your closet.

As you may have noticed, colored denim is spectacular. It is the easiest way I know to give your day-to-day wardrobe a little extra life and excitement. So rather than continuing to wear the more traditional pant options or classic blue denim, get adventurous and change things up this season!
