Master the Denim-on-Denim Look

As fall transitions us to cooler months, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear this season’s hottest trends. From style tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for fall weather.

We always love an excuse to make our favorite pair of blue jeans the star of our outfit. This week, we’re welcoming Natalie from Natalie in the City to share how she styled this season’s denim-on-denim trend for a statement-making look.

Outfits comprised of all denim are a hit this fall season. However, this is the first denim-on-denim look I have ever attempted, and I was a little anxious when planning out how I would pull it off. I wanted to create an outfit that looked effortless, yet chic. The perfect outfit to spend a day off, running around town and stopping for lunch with friends.

Well, pulling off a denim-on-denim look was much more effortless than I thought it would be! Meijer’s selection of denim blouses, pants, jackets and even accessories provided me with a plethora of options as I embarked on this outfit challenge.

I started with this pair of Stitch Star light wash skinny jeans thinking I’d top it off with a chambray top and some nude heels. But after finding this Massini destroyed denim jacket—perfect for the chillier fall days—I knew I had to have it.

I broke up the denim-everything outfit I first envisioned with this Massini navy and white striped T-shirt that fit so perfectly with the denim jacket.

I also fell in love with these Falls Creek ankle boots as soon as I spotted them, and I decided to top off my denim-on-denim look with the taupe booties.

If you are craving a denim look, too, here are some tips to stick to when shopping for your new favorite fall ensemble:

1. Find denim pieces with a similar wash and color. The shades of the denim can contrast slightly, but make sure it isn’t a night and day difference.

2. Simplicity is key when it comes to your shoes. Pair nude- or taupe-colored heels or ankle boots with your denim-on-denim look.

3. Keep accessories to a minimum. Stick to dainty gold or silver bracelets and pair them with a minimalist necklace of the same metal.

All-in-all, I ended up with the perfect denim outfit for a relaxing day off or an afternoon out on the town. How do you plan to style this fall’s denim trend?
