How to Start and Keep a Healthy Nightly Routine

This week, we’re welcoming Tieka from Selective Potential to share her favorite products and style to keep your healthy, nightly routine on track throughout the fall season.

Lately I’ve been working on my nightly routine, so I can sleep better and wake up energized each morning. It’s so helpful to have a go-to process, and I always love reading about other people’s routines as well. I’m definitely a night owl, but I’ve been trying to become more of an early bird. I work full-time during the day, so I have to be up around 7:30 in the morning in order to get to work on time. Here’s what my nightly routine looks like lately:


10:00 p.m. Nightly Routine Reminder


I have a notification set at 10 p.m. to start my skincare routine. Sometimes I’m caught up in a TV show or browsing the web and don’t realize the time, so this has been a super helpful reminder to start getting ready for bed.



If I’m not already in pajamas (which I usually am as soon as I get home), I change into some. I love a comfy set of PJs! Especially as summer winds down, I love to sleep in layers. A pair of cozy pants, a long-sleeve top, a comfortable bralette and some warm fuzzy socks are my perfect sleep combination.


10:15 p.m. Skincare Routine



I head into the bathroom to start my nightly skincare routine. I’m not always perfect, but I do make sure I always remove my makeup. I just recently picked up these Formula 10.0.6 Wipe Your Face Off cloth makeup removers from Meijer. They smell so good! The pink grapefruit and apple combination is a nice refreshing scent. I also love Neutrogena’s Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes, which are my usual go-to. But it was nice to switch it up!



After removing my makeup, I wash my face with a mild daily cleanser. I decided to try Formula 10.0.6’s Daily Foaming Cleanser from Meijer in Passionfruit & Green Tea, which also smelled amazing. In addition, I typically apply a light moisturizer and under-eye cream.


On nights where I feel my skin needs an extra pick-me-up, I do a mask as well. This Formula 10.0.6 Mud Mask was so refreshing! It tingles for a little bit but goes away, and it wipes off very smooth. The orange and bergamot scents were also so uplifting.


As soon as my skincare routine is done, I brush and floss my teeth, take out my contacts and put on my glasses for the evening. Toothpaste, floss and contact solution all come from Meijer, too. One-stop-shop, right?


10:30 p.m. Head for Bed


After my skincare routine, I always grab a water bottle to keep by my bedside. I let Winny outside to go potty, and grab her a Milkbone treat every night before bed (her favorite). I turn off all the apartment lights, turn on the porch light, switch on the A/C and cozy up into bed. I also love to light a candle before falling asleep.


My goal is to fall asleep by 11:30 p.m., so I can get a full 7-8 hours of sleep each night. This means I have an hour in bed, which is ideal. Usually during this time, I love to scroll through my phone and catch up on Instagram and Snapchat.


I also love to read before bed. I love picking up new magazines from Meijer as I’m in the checkout lane and browsing the book section, so I have new stuff to read all the time. Currently, I’m reading Emily Giffin’s “First Comes Love.”


By 11:30 p.m., I usually turn the lights off, spray a little bit of lavender spray mist on our pillows, and try to sleep!


7:30 a.m. Wake up



I try to wake up each morning around 7:30 a.m., but I’m definitely a snooze-button gal. Any tips for me there? Each morning I roll out of bed, let Winny outside and grab a cup of coffee which has been pre-brewed in my coffee maker. Best scent to wake up to, right? If I have a little time, I’ll relax, make my bed and sit down to enjoy my coffee. If not, I’ll quickly get dressed and do my makeup routine before heading out the door!
