Top ‘90s Trends to Try (Again!)

It’s no secret that ‘90s trends are back for spring and summer, and it’s taking us on a trip down a stylish memory lane. From chokers and velvet to old school blouses and jeans, we’re wishing we’d never cleaned out our closets from back then! However, the best part about these trends coming back is we can marry them with our favorite looks of 2017. If you’re ready to put a modern twist on your favorite ‘90s comebacks, check out our top five trends from the decade to try again.

1. Shoulder details

There’s no doubt shoulder details are having a moment in 2017, but they were also an iconic trend back in the ‘90s. While ‘90s fashion had us pulling one shoulder out of an oversized tee, today’s version is a little more intentional. From cold shoulder, to off-the-shoulder, to shirts with shoulder cutouts, this look is – and always has been – one of our summer faves. Channel your inner ‘90s gal and pair this trend with high-waisted denim, or opt for breezy soft shorts in hammered satin to put a modern spin on the outfit. And by the way, don’t be afraid to throw prints into the mix, too. Timeless patterns like floral will never go out of style!

2. Ruffled blouses

Vintage-inspired ruffles were a staple of ‘90s dress wear, but in this decade, we’re welcoming a more casual take on the look. We love this trend paired with light wash denim and sneakers (especially when the upper and shoelaces are made of velvet!). You can also transform this trend for work, so never fear – just tuck the top into dress pants or a high-waisted pencil skirt, then finish off the look with a pair of block heel sandals. Extra style points if you incorporate a choker + pendant necklace combo.

3. Menswear-inspired blazers

Oversized blazers aren’t just cozy, they’re also on trend right now. While this look featured pinstripes and wool fabric in the ‘90s, we put a feminine twist on our modern version of the suit. We can’t get enough of this silky, floral print material – and love how it looks when paired with an otherwise casual outfit, like this lingerie-inspired, lace tank. If you’re not into the juxtaposition of dressy and laidback styles, throw the blazer over top of a solid fitted sundress. The options are endless when it comes to this outerwear!

4. Statement jewelry

While your accessories no longer feature peace signs or yin and yang, the bold nature of ‘90s jewelry easily translates to modern trends. Statement necklaces and earrings add the perfect touch to present-day outfits, whether they highlight large pendants, beaded fringe or classic dangly hoops. Our favorite looks include all of the above, as there’s no better ode to ‘90s fashion than to stand out from the crowd. Pair your favorite pieces with a faux jumpsuit look created with closet staples of solid, fitted tanks and soft culotte bottoms in hammered satin.

5. Velvet shoes

We all remember having velvet in our closets as kiddos, and now this material is back in style in ways no one ever expected. From tennis shoes to “flatforms,” our favorite modern way to rock this fabric is on our feet! Go the simple route with slip on sandals or neutral, velvet sneakers – or make a statement with details like roses and pompoms. No matter your personal style, this is a ‘90s trend that everyone can pull off.

The Essential 4 Week Wedding Countdown

As the summer sun begins to heat up, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up their wardrobes for warm weather styles.

This week we’re welcoming Jess of The Golden Girl to share exactly what you need to do to prepare for an upcoming wedding – whether you’re the bride or a guest! – with a four week prep countdown covering everything from the perfect skin routine to picking out necessary undergarments.

So, you’re tying the knot this year? Congratulations! As a fellow bride-to-be, I can honestly say that being engaged has been one of the most exciting experiences in life thus far! However, it has also been one of the most stressful times as well.

The biggest piece advice I can give as your wedding date nears? Make a plan!

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

Of course, you’ve already got the flowers, the dress and the décor taken care of. But what about the little personal details – the steps necessary to get glowing skin, shiny hair, that sun-kissed glow, and more? The good news is, it’s not overly complicated! All it takes is a little planning ahead, and a few key products from Meijer.

Follow this four week countdown plan, and you’ll be smooth sailing!

Four Weeks Out: Glowing Skin Routine

Why start with skin? Because you’ll want to allow as much time for it to soak up the benefits of your new skincare routine! Keep it simple with a few key products to brighten, smooth and moisturize, and you’ll have a beautiful, healthy glow on your big day!

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

Start with a detoxifying and brightening face wash.

As you already know, the struggle to manage wedding stress is real, which can lead to a dull, uneven complexion. To combat this, I love using this L’Oreal clay cleanser, which turns into a luxurious mousse as you rub it into your skin. It’s comprised of charcoal – which is a magnet for oil and toxins – and, with regular use, leaves you with a much brighter, even complexion.

Clear pores.

I’ve used these strips from Biore for years, but I love them even more now that they’ve come out with a charcoal version! As mentioned above, charcoal is one of the most effective ingredients in ridding your pores of toxins and impurities, and these strips are essential for clearing pores! Plus, they reduce oil by up to 3X, which is key to making your makeup last on your big day! Apply one to wet skin after washing your face once per week.

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

Hydrate, balance and minimize pores with a mask.

Sheet masks are everywhere right now, for good reason, and this sheet mask from L’Oreal does not disappoint. It packs so many powerful benefits into one little 10 minute mask session! Another added benefit of sheet masks: you have to lie down to apply them. So you can think of it as a small moment of required relaxation.

diffuser in bathroom

Turn on your essential oil diffuser for an added treat as you let your mask do its magic! Afterword, your skin is super hydrated, your pores are minimized and your complexion is buttery smooth, allowing for a much smoother makeup application! Do this at least once per week.

Other tips: Remember, you are what you eat! Munch on as many dark, leafy greens as you can, as well as berries and grapes – all are chock full of vitamins and antioxidants that will make your skin glow from within! Meijer has an awesome selection of organic produce to choose from to make grocery shopping before your big day a lot easier.

Three Weeks Out: Strong, Shiny Hair

Another unfortunate side effect of wedding stress? Dull hair. Yikes! Three weeks out, start applying a hair mask after you shampoo. I love Garnier’s “Whole Blends” masks, which target different problem areas depending on your individual needs. My hair tends to be on the dry side, so I chose the Hydrating Blends Mask with Coconut Water and Vanilla Milk. The entire line is made of natural ingredients without harmful parabens that are found in a lot of other hair products!

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

To apply, shampoo your hair right away when you get in the shower, then follow with the mask. If you can, apply a shower cap over the top and let the hot shower steam amplify the benefits of the mask. Leave on for at least three minutes, but preferably longer. Rinse right before you get out, and style as usual.

Two Weeks Out: The Right Accessories

As your wedding nears closer, it’s time to start thinking about a few different accessories you’ll need to stock up on to prepare for the big day!

The “under” accessories

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

You’ve been thinking about the dress for months, but what about what you’re wearing under the dress? With so many backless and strapless dress styles now, it can be tough to find the right bra!

I have two favorites, both made by a brand called “Lingerie Solutions” which can be found in Meijer’s lingerie department. There are individual “adhesive bra” cups which are the best “barely there” solution. I also love the “Shantina Lite” molded adhesive cups, that will also give you a lot of “cinch” and “oomph” if you so please! The bra is also washable and reusable, so you’ll get a ton of wear out of it!

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

For underwear, go with something comfortable and nude colored, so you can ensure there won’t be any show through your white dress! Meijer has quite a few options, like this thong by Simple Pleasures – and a ton of shape wear too, if that’s more your style!

Hair + makeup accessories

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

Be prepared for hair and makeup mishaps and pack your MOH’s purse or makeup bag with extra bobby pins and hair ties (I love the Goody’s kind!) There will inevitably be hair snafus on the dance floor, and if you plan ahead, you can fix them in only a few seconds! (Because not jumping to “Shout” just because you’re afraid of your hair falling out would be an utter travesty).

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

I also love ELF’s duo lip primer and plumping stick, to ensure your lipstick stays on all night!

One Week Out: Polished Hands + Feet

Eeek! 7 days away! Time to start polishing those hands and feet!

By now, hopefully everything is planned out to a T, and you can really start to sit back and relax!

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

There’s no better way to do that than soaking in a warm bath and applying a luxurious salt scrub like Tree Hut’s Shea Sugar Scrub. Whole sugar grains will make your skin insanely smooth (especially the problem areas, like your feet!) and it’s made with Shea Nut Oil to lock in moisture. Plus, it’s made with all-natural extracts and is also paraben-free!

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

After applying the scrub, I like to rinse off and follow up with Jergens Natural Glow Firming lotion! It only takes a few days to start seeing a nice, natural-looking hint of glow. If you don’t want to opt for a spray tan on your big day, this is a really great natural-looking and budget-friendly way to get some color.

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

For a great DIY pedicure and manicure, apply Cutex Moisture Rich foot cream to feet and paint nails with a pretty ballet pink color, which is the perfect neutral for your nuptials! My favorite is Essie’s Gel Couture no-chip nail polish in Fairy Tailor. It’s by far the longest lasting nail polish I’ve ever used, so you won’t have to worry about chipping as you’re stepping into your dress!

That’s it! Congratulations! You are officially ready for your big day!

Floral Prints for a Stylish Spring Picnic

As the spring chill finally gives way to summer warmth, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up their wardrobes for warm weather styles.

This week we’re welcoming Liz of With Wonder and Whimsy to share her favorite ways to style this season’s must-have pattern: floral.

Nothing says springtime like florals! Just like fresh flowers, floral prints can help breathe new life into your wardrobe and home décor for spring and summer. I’m always looking for easy, affordable ways to refresh my style for the changing seasons, so I made a trip to my local Meijer store to shop around.

floral pattern outfit inspiration trendy accessories blogger style

Floral is the print of spring, and Meijer has options ranging from trendy dresses and tops to plush pillows and bedding. I picked up some cute new pieces and love how these fresh floral prints bring such color, romance and whimsy to my wardrobe and home. A flirty dress and floral blanket set the perfect scene for a charming spring picnic in the park! Here’s a look at some of my favorite Meijer picks for celebrating the colorful and fragrant beauty of spring.

A Floral Dress

A floral dress is a spring and summer staple, and Meijer has a large selection in a range of styles and prints. I’d recently heard about their #StyleForEveryBody campaign with offerings in a full range of sizes from S-3X. It is so refreshing to see every size featured on the same rack.

floral pattern outfit inspiration trendy accessories blogger style

Plus-size women know the frustration of seeing a garment they love, rushing over to check for their size and finding it’s either not available or they have to shop in a separate department with an inevitably smaller selection. And when so many of those plus-size departments are stocked with boring neutrals and uninspired basics, the variety of trendy options and floral prints at Meijer is exciting and welcoming.

I tried on a number of styles ranging from embroidered swing dresses to tropical print maxis but fell in love with this faux wrap dress. The print has a romantic Victorian-era feel in shades of blush pink and plum. It’s such a sweet dress in the softest velvety knit fabric.

I layered an ivory cami underneath and was pleased to see that Meijer has layering basics like this in a variety of colors that coordinate with their seasonal styles.

Fresh & Pretty Accessories

Meijer has some super cute sandals with flower embellishments, but I had to have these girly-meets-sporty tennis shoes in floral lace. These tennies are such a great find because they’re practical and casual for a picnic outdoors but still really trendy and cute.

I finished my look with this quilted cross-body bag in rosy pink and personalized it with this macaroon charm. I like that you can mix-and-match their purses and charms to customize your bag and make it your own.

Dreamy Bedding

I also picked up a bedding set in the loveliest watercolor floral. The comforter and pillow cases are two-sided with periwinkle polka dots on one side and a dreamy floral print on the other. It’s the perfect combination of romantic and whimsical, playful and serene.

This plush furry pillow is a fun addition, and it’s a style I can swap between my bedroom and living room décor. Since I like to change up my bedding every few weeks, this comforter will make the most stylish picnic blanket when not in use. The floral print and ruffle trim definitely set the mood for a sweet and romantic afternoon in the park.

I love wearing and decorating with prints, and florals are my absolute favorite. They bring instant romance and freshness, and they’re a simple way to celebrate this beautiful season!

The Easiest Last-Minute Gift Idea for Mother’s Day

As the spring chill finally gives way to summer warmth, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up their wardrobes for warm weather styles.

This week we’re welcoming blogger Kendall Rayburn to share how to put together the perfect gift your mom will love this Mother’s Day.

Hello, there! Today I have the honor of hanging out here on the Meijer Style blog to share my tips for putting together the perfect Mother’s Day gift! I absolutely love shopping Meijer for gifts because I can get everything I need in one stop.

I spent about an hour browsing my local Meijer for the perfect picks for Mother’s Day, and I can’t wait to show you what I found! I got gift items, tissue paper, a card – everything I needed for the perfectly packaged Mother’s Day gift. Now, let’s put it all together!

easy present gift idea mother's day mom

Choosing the Container:

When choosing the gift container, keep your recipient in mind. Like me, my momma loves all things rustic, and I just knew she’d go crazy for this cute wooden box. It has twine handles on either side, and she can re-purpose it after opening her gift (how cute would this be in a guest bathroom to hold hand towels, toilet paper and soaps?)

easy present gift idea mother's day mom

Personalizing the Gift:

Think about your mother or mother figure: what kind of things do they love? What would they want to receive? For my mom (and almost every other mom on the planet) photos of loved ones really are at the top of their list.

I picked up these adorable frames with the same rustic look as the box and added in two photos. One frame has a photo of my boys holding hands, the other is a photo of my mom with both boys at a hot air balloon festival. It was such a special day, and it’s also a tradition (we go every year), so I know she’d love this photo to remember it all.

easy present gift idea mother's day mom

One thing I inherited from my mom was a love of coffee. I spotted this super cute mug that’s full of color and flowers – perfect for my Mom’s gift.

easy present gift idea mother's day mom

Meijer also has a variety of these hilarious little signs. This yoga one really rings true to me because my mom and I have been talking about joining a yoga class for months and still haven’t, so I know this is going to make her laugh!

easy present gift idea mother's day mom

What’s something that all moms love? CANDLES. I found this adorable hammer copper candle that is multi-use. Once you’ve burned the candle, simply clean out the inside and plant the tag in some dirt to turn it into a planter – so cool!

easy present gift idea mother's day mom

I also picked up this peace + tranquility candle, which is perfect for lighting while taking a long soak in the tub, or just anytime relaxation is needed (which, for most moms, is often!)

easy present gift idea mother's day mom candle peace tranquility

My mom loves plants, and this adorable faux succulent was perfect for her gift because it’s something she can keep forever. No need to water this little guy, he’ll stay as green and adorable as the day it was bought. The planter it’s in is also super trendy with a modern, cement look. If you want to personalize this even further, you could decorate the outside (or have your kiddos add their handprints).

easy present gift idea mother's day mom

Choosing the Card:

It’s so hard for me to choose a greeting card. I have to read about 15 of them before I settle on the perfect one. Sound familiar? My husband always jokes that my cards always make people cry, and I guess it’s kind of true. I mean, who wouldn’t want to choose a card that makes the recipient actually feel something real?

easy present gift idea mother's day mom card daughter

Wrapping it Up:

I love putting everything together into one package after shopping! My favorite material to incorporate is tissue paper because it adds that extra bit of oomph to make the multiple gift ideas feel like one present. For this gift I chose two tissue papers: one plain white and one patterned with small white hearts. I thought the mix of beige and white perfectly fit the items in the gift, and that overall rustic feel.

To properly package the gift, I always start by laying down a few sheets of tissue paper in the container before arranging items (tallest and biggest items in the back), and then fan out the excess paper at the edges of the gift.

easy present gift idea mother's day mom

easy present gift idea mother's day mom

Didn’t this gift turn out so cute? I used all of the tissue paper to add height to different items, and made sure to add some behind the frames as well to give it a little flare. That heart-patterned tissue paper is just so cute and perfect for the holiday!

easy present gift idea mother's day mom

I cannot wait to gift this to my momma this weekend – she is just going to love it! If you’ve still got Mother’s Day shopping on your to-do list, be sure to stop by Meijer to pick up everything you need!

What are YOUR plans for Mother’s Day?

If you’re as anxious to update your summer-time accessories as we are, look no further than these bright necklace and earring styles you can start wearing right now.

Fringe Tassels

Fringe has been a hot trend this past year, and we’re just not ready to say goodbye this season! Tassels are flirty and playful (aka perfect for a sunny day), but still classy enough for date night or an afternoon in the office. Want to add another element to this detailed accessory? Mix metallics with neutrals or bright summer shades – like this yellow-gold and cream necklace we can’t get enough of.

If bold styles are more your thing, don’t fret – more vibrant accessory inspiration to come!

Chunky Pendants

As summer approaches, your clothing choices will no doubt become bolder in color, print and style – and your seasonal accessories should be updated to follow suit. Opt for statement necklaces with chunky pendants and large, dramatic medallions, or dangly earrings featuring a variety of stones, beads and tassels. As long as it stands out, anything goes!

Extra points if your accessories take command of your go-to summer outfit!

Vibrant Colors

Staying true to the eclectic theme that’s sure to dominate summer trends, we love mixing and matching vibrant beads, bows and tassels. We already know pink and yellow will be the “it” colors of the season, but don’t be afraid to feature your personal faves, too. Lime green, turquoise, indigo and orange all look great when thrown into the mix!

How to Layer This Season’s Trendiest Necklaces

As spring begins to peek around the corner, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for a new year of style.

This week, we’re welcoming Jess from The Golden Girl to share her favorite ways to layer this season’s trendiest necklaces, from alternating lengths to combining colors and mixing metals.

meijer style layer necklace trend jewelry

If the in-between weather has you in a wardrobe slump, you’re definitely not alone! I’m right there with you, counting down the days (and hours) until I can pull out my florals and open-toed sandals.

When it comes to weather, though, we’ve got to make the best of the cards we’re dealt, right? I happen to have a little trick to spice up any outfit (yes, even if you thought you were sick of your current sweater, tights and long-sleeve rotation): layering your necklaces.

meijer style layer necklace trend jewelry

A few layered necklaces add an extra punch of personality into any ensemble. Have you ever tried it? You’d be surprised at what a great statement it makes! You can do it for day or night, and the best part is that it’s really easy to try. I recently stopped by Meijer’s jewelry section and picked up several pieces that look amazing on their own, and even better when layered.

Here are my tips and tricks to keep in mind when trying out the trend for yourself:

meijer style layer necklace trend jewelry

Pick two or three favorites

As one of my favorite designers says, “Always remove one thing before you leave the house. Less is more.” Following the less-is-more rule, choose two or three of your favorite necklaces (at the most) to layer at one time. Add more than that, and you run the risk of looking like you’re wearing a costume.

meijer style layer necklace trend jewelry

Alternate your necklace lengths

This is the #1 rule of thumb when layering necklaces. You don’t want to wear three necklaces that are the same length, as this will look messy and heavy around your neck. (Not to mention they’ll likely all get tangled immediately!) You want each necklace to be able to shine, so make sure they have plenty of breathing room. In order to accomplish this, choose necklaces at varying lengths. I’ve found that the best combinations are one short, one medium and one long. When layering two, choose one short and one medium, or one medium and one long. Tip: Stay away from very short and very long, which leaves too much contrast – the eye doesn’t know where to look!

meijer style layer necklace trend jewelry

Go with a monochrome effect

I’m very partial to gold jewelry, so I love the look of layered gold necklaces! The monochrome effect of one metal results in a classic, polished look. Try it with silver, or even rose gold, if that’s more your style.

meijer style layer necklace trend jewelry

Mix your metals

On the flip side, mixing metals is very popular right now. If you’re going for a more funky, eclectic vibe, mixing metals is a perfect way to achieve that. Gold and silver go well together, and I love the look of gold mixed with rose gold.

meijer style layer necklace trend jewelry

Mix dainty with statement

As you can probably tell by now, layering necklaces is all about balance. The key is to play around with different colors, scales and lengths. That being said, one of my favorite ways to create more visual interest is to combine a dainty necklace with a chunkier statement necklace. For example, this dainty silver necklace, which I found in the Meijer fine jewelry section, adds a feminine touch when mixed with a fun, chunky statement necklace from the Meijer trend jewelry section.

Which of these is your favorite? Do you have any tips to layering your necklaces?

New Year, New You: The Best Gear to Help You Keep Your Resolutions

No matter what healthy resolution you set for yourself in 2017, having the right gear could be the difference between abandoning your goals or celebrating at the finish line. Whether you’re a veteran yogi or a fitness newbie, pick up these healthy essentials to make sure you crush your resolutions – and look great doing it.

new year resolutions athletic gear women

If getting more exercise is a top priority, don’t roll the dice with whatever tennis shoes you have laying around the house. New running shoes with extra cushioning will protect your ankles (and knees!) from long runs, while low-profile training shoes will make sure you keep your form during weight training.

Beyond keeping you cool, technical fabrics in bright colors are an easy way to get in the mood for exercising. This year it’s all about neon, so skip the muted neutrals in favor of vivid pinks and greens to really make a statement.

Whether you’re practicing vinyasas at the studio or lifting hand weights during your favorite TV show, don’t forget to refuel when you’re done. Apples and bananas are a great source of vitamins, and if your workout was over an hour, grab a protein bar to tide you over until your next meal.

new year resolutions athletic gear men

If your beau’s resolution is to log less screen time, why not get the whole family involved? Try shooting hoops or organizing a touch football tournament for a fun way to get everyone’s heart rate up. Flip top water bottles are perfect for touting around, while protein shakes make sure he’ll recover in time for tomorrow’s rematch.

new year resolutions athletic gear

Whether you’re into sweet, savory or something in between, it’s never been easier to get the protein you need to fuel your resolutions. Experiment with different snacks to see which one you like best – from Greek yogurt to on-the-go smoothies, there’s a healthy option your family is sure to love.

Now that you’ve got the right gear, get out there and make 2017 your best year yet!

  2. You can’t go wrong gifting gloves or mittens since the weather is so chilly during the holiday season. There’s always a need for extra warm accessories!
  3. There’s no such thing as too much jewelry, so your gals will love a new bracelet or watch. Opt for neutral metallic tones like gold or silver – that way, your gift is guaranteed to match all their favorite outfits.
  4. If you’re shopping for a family member or a close friend, you could pick out a sweater or a pair of pajama pants. If you understand their style and know what size they need, they’ll appreciate the thought you put into this present!
  5. If you’re not sure what treats or trends your ladies like, opt for a cute knickknack or unique household item – whether it’s a coffee mug, a chevron frame or a polka-dot phone case.

holiday presents for guys and boys

For the guys

Not sure what to buy for your dad, bro or S.O.? Here are a few foolproof ideas the men in your life are sure to love.

  1. A new mug or thermos + your guy’s favorite beverage = an easy and useful combo that they’ll definitely appreciate. Some drinks even come in gift boxes this time of year!
  2. For men that are dreaming of warmer, sunnier days, brand new golf balls are a great holiday gift. They’ll love having them on-hand when they’re ready to hit the course again.
  3. But with winter’s not-so-warm weather, puffy vests + plaid are a must-have pair this season. Your guy will stay just the right amount of toasty if he ventures outside on a mild winter day.
  4. For guys that like to spend a night in now and then, a new Blu-Ray or DVD is the perfect present. Opt for a blockbuster that just hit stores or their favorite flick of all time!
  5. While the ladies in your life buy new wallets on the regular, your dad, brother or husband might be in need of an upgrade. Choose a billfold in brown or black leather – it’s a sleek, classic style that all guys appreciate.

holiday presents for children of all ages

For the kiddos

Need to cross your child, niece or nephew off your list? Here are a few simple gift ideas for kids of all ages.

  1. A goofy board game like Pie Face or a Disney movie like Finding Dory will keep your child laughing all winter long. You might enjoy getting in on the fun, too. 🙂
  2. If your child loves cuddling or has lots of furry friends, choose a brand new stuffed animal they can add to their collection. Tie a bow around its neck and leave it under the tree for them to find!
  3. Washable paint + brushes are a great gift for children with an artsy side. They’ll have a blast creating their unique masterpieces – plus, the kid-friendly color shouldn’t stain their clothes or your carpet (in case they get extra creative or messy).
  4. A winter hat featuring the child’s favorite character is a win-win – they’ll stay warm (which you’ll love) while repping their character of choice (which they’ll love).
  5. Finally, if you’re brave enough to withstand your child’s inevitable sugar rush, candy is a great (and easy) holiday stocking stuffer.

3 Stylish Ways to Wear a Knit Hat

With snow and low temps comes the need for winter gear – knit hats, cozy mittens, blanket scarves and everything else that keeps you nice and toasty. While we can usually rock these accessories without cramping our style, caps are notorious for creating the ever-dreaded hat hair. Instead of heading out into the cold without this important accessory, try one of these three easy hairstyles that turns your winter hat into a fashion necessity.

1. Messy Pig Tails

These symmetrical braids aren’t just trendy and fierce – they also provide a way to keep your hair under control. Cold weather can make your locks prone to static and frizz, but this style makes it easy to manage every flyaway strand. Whether you’re spending the day on the slopes or out and about with your friends, pig tail braids look great with a knit winter hat.

Style Tip: To create a look that is full and voluminous, stop braiding a few inches above your ends; then pull the strands loose from bottom to top. Once you get inside, shake out your hair for a messy, bed-head style.

2. Asymmetrical Faux-Fishtail

Instead of a sleek pony, opt for a fishtail braid pulled to hang over one shoulder. To achieve this easy, hat-friendly look, split your hair into two equal pieces. Then twist them loosely, pulling to the front and over one shoulder as you go. This style works great with a traditional braid as well – just pull the style loose after securing with a hair band to create an intentionally disheveled look.

Style Tip: To keep your locks on point even after the cap comes off, try this introverted fishtail/French braid hybrid. Goodbye, hat hair!

3. Voluminous Waves

The secret to escaping hat hair is to avoid styling your strands in the exact same way when you’re wearing your hat as you do when you’re not. If you want to wear your hair down, just flip it all over one shoulder in an extreme side part before you put the knit hat on. Then, once you’re back indoors, flip your hair back to your normal middle or side part and your hair will look as voluminous as ever. Viola!

Style Tip: Keep a lightweight aerosol spray in your purse for a quick pick-me-up throughout the day.

The 4 Must-Try Fall Jewelry Trends

As fall transitions us to cooler months, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear this season’s hottest trends. From style tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for fall weather.

This week, we caught up with Alexis from That Chic Lex to get a of glimpse of her must-try jewelry trends for fall, as well as some ideas on how to wear them with her boho chic style.

As you’re trading in your sandals for ankle booties and t-shirts for fringe ponchos, there’s one cool-weather update you can’t afford to forget: your jewelry wardrobe! While summer pieces are light, bright and dainty, this fall ushers in a new era of statement-making accessories.

Here are the four head-turning pieces that Alexis will be wearing this season, acting as the perfect complement to her bohemian style.

1. Two-Toned Metallic Bracelets

My first fall accessory pick is this set of flexible metallic bracelets. I love the combination of silver and rose gold! The colors pair beautifully together, though you wouldn’t necessarily expect them to. The bracelets come in a pack – but three bracelets is never enough, so I always grab two.

2. Stone Statement Rings

The real eye candy, though, is these bohemian rings. I don’t usually wear rings, but I’m glad I gave these a try! I love the marble-inspired stones and filigree details, as they add a rustic, yet sophisticated touch.

3. Layered Chokers

Perhaps my favorite piece, however, is this black suede choker. When I found out the ‘90s were making a serious comeback, I searched my room in hopes to find necklaces from my past. It’s been a while (so unfortunately I couldn’t wear any of my old favorites!), but this gave me the perfect opportunity to snatch up a new one.

Unlike a regular choker that wraps directly around your neck, this one has distinct details that add character and dimension. Since I like to wear tops that are more minimalist in style, I know this choker will really command my ensemble.

4. Round Sunglasses

The last fall accessory I’ll be rocking on the regular is this pair of retro circle sunglasses. This fall’s boots and prints are bohemian-inspired, so I love to extend the trend to my new autumn shades. Just because it’s getting colder doesn’t mean there isn’t sun!

Looks best with…

I like to pair my autumn jewelry trends with flare jeans, a mustard mock neck, a cardi with fringe and black ankle booties. The look quickly became my go-to for the season! I love the colors and the pieces – especially the accessories!

With so many jewelry trends to try, it’s never been easier to shake up your fall wardrobe and add even more personality to your look.

How to Style Your Favorite ‘90s Necklace

You probably remember chokers from your childhood – from a stretchy, faux tattoo to the classic black ribbon – but this season, the ‘90s trend is back and better than ever. This retro accessory is an edgy outfit staple, and we can’t get enough of all the different ways to wear it. For an updated spin on this throwback essential, here are three must-have ways to wear a choker this fall.

Stick to the classics

This simple style was popular for a reason! To achieve a chic, sophisticated look, opt for a classic black choker in velvet or faux leather. Style it with any of these essential fall shades to create the perfect balance between the accessory and your top. But be careful pairing a choker with this season’s high neckline trend – you don’t want it to turn into an unintentional turtleneck.

Layer your favorites

We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: layering will always be a staple of fall trends. Mix necklace styles and textures to add variety to the look while keeping the overall color scheme the same throughout. Try a black ribbon choker with a metallic gold pendant, paired with a dainty gold chain and a black faux tattoo. It’s the perfect combination for a girly grunge ensemble!

Create contrast with colors and textures

To add even more dimension to your layered autumn look, vary color and metal choice when pairing these accessories together. Berry shades look great with your staple metallic jewelry, so grab a short chain to complement a colorful choker. If you’re looking to add yet another detail, slide a dainty pendant onto either necklace.

8 Ways to Style a Blanket Scarf

When it comes to seasonal fashion, there are certain fall essentials that never go out of style – plaid tops, ankle booties, bomber jackets, and (perhaps our personal fave) the cozy blanket scarf. There are endless ways to style this versatile accessory, and the way you tie can affect your entire ensemble. So if you’re in need of some scarf style inspiration, here are 8 ways to wear this season’s comfiest closet staple.

1. The Wrap – For a simple, traditional look, loop your scarf around your neck until there are no loose ends. If it gets too bulky, tuck the ends into your jacket to hide them instead.

2. The Pull-Through – Bring the two ends of the scarf together, creating a loop on the opposite side. Place the scarf behind your neck and pull both ends through the loop, making it as tight (or as loose) as you’d like.

3. The Bandana – Lay the scarf flat on your table or floor; then fold it in half so it forms a triangle. Wrap the scarf around your neck from the front, backwards. Finish the look by bringing the ends around to the front, and tucking underneath the main triangle or into your jacket.

4. The Toss – For a cozy, carefree look, place the scarf behind your neck and toss one end over the opposite shoulder. Let the loop hang loose instead of pulling it tight.

5. The Shawl – Pull the scarf wide and wrap around your shoulders, tying the ends in front to hold in place. This poncho-esque look will keep you totally warm!

6. The Belt – Loosely drape the blanket scarf over your shoulders, cinching it at the waist with a wide elastic belt. This creates the illusion of a jacket or sweater, but is easy to take off or style differently if you choose.

282606-scarfs-ruanas3

7. The Classic – Starting from the front, toss the scarf back over either shoulder. Then, grab each end and pull around the opposite side, letting them hang loose.

8. The Twist – Just like the Classic, but with a trendy twist! Tie the ends together to form a loose knot, bringing a fun update to this traditional style.

Bonus!

If looping and twisting isn’t your thing, opt for printed ruana instead. This update to the classic blanket scarf has all the cozy and none of the tying woes. With easy toggles and a built-in hood, the ruana is a foolproof way to try the trend and rock some comfy plaid this fall.
