The Top Athleisure Trends for Fall 2017

While the sunny days of summer are officially behind us, our favorite athleisure trends are getting a fresh face for fall. This season, we’re incorporating new styles into our activewear arsenal – from bold prints and feminine fabrics to sporty accents and cool color palettes. Whether you’re sweating it out in spin class or hitting the streets post-shavasana, these athletic-inspired separates should be staples in your autumn wardrobe.

When deciding what to sport for your regular sweat sesh, it’s important to opt for activewear that’s both trendy and practical. The mesh details on these leggings and workout tee are eye-catching, but they also provide ventilation to keep you cool during your exercises. A printed legging with an accent color adds extra interest to your look, while supportive (and cute!) New Balance sneakers complete the outfit in style.

We know feminine florals are a huge trend for fall, so why not incorporate the print into your athletic attire? These printed leggings look great when paired with a solid, tunic-style tank – especially when the top complements the pattern’s bold hues. Finish off your outfit with a colorful, distressed baseball cap for a casual vibe that’ll take you from the treadmill to the coffee shop.

Want to rock a sporty look while sipping cider at the apple orchard? Opt for the street-style version of this fall’s athleisure trend. Light wash jeans with a side stripe give off an instantly athletic vibe and this lacy crew neck sweatshirt is active-inspired through and through. It’s the perfect juxtaposition of dressy and casual, so you can finish the look with fall booties, flats or everyday sneakers.

Whether you’re dressing for a cozy weekend or hitting the farmer’s market downtown, this hockey-style hoodie is an active-inspired essential. Go the full-on athleisure route by adding leggings and your favorite sneakers, or make the outfit more runway-ready by adding skinny jeans and ankle boots. No accessories are needed when it comes to this sporty look – the detailed lace-up neckline does the job all on its own.

The 5 Best Ways to Wear Camo Print this Fall

As fall transitions us to cooler months, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear this season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips and makeup trends to hairstyles and home décor, we’re excited to see how these stylistas gear up for fall weather. This week, we’re welcoming Candace of Live Love & Read to share the five best ways to style camouflage – the trendiest print of fall 2017.

With New York Fashion Week (NYFW) behind us and summer making its official exit, I think it’s safe to say that we can officially focus on all things FALL. After all, for the budget-conscious fashionista, it is important to wait and see which trends get the most love from the NYFW street style scene, so you know which ones you need to invest in for your autumn wardrobe.

From the boldest of reds to couch print florals to velvet, there’s a lot of good stuff happening in the fashion department this fall. You may or may not be ready for this, but one of the most notable trends of the season is CAMO. The renaissance of this pattern started making its way down the fashion pipelines last fall and made an impressionable impact, which explains how and why camo is an IT trend for 2017.

I know, living on the “wild” side and wearing bold prints (like camo) can be scary. The good news is there are a variety of ways you can approach styling this trend without looking too “avant-garde.” Also, for my classic-natural gals who are currently thinking, “I would never wear camo,” I’m happy to report that this is your PERFECT print, as it combines all those great natural colors you love!

Ok, enough shop talk, let’s get some visual inspiration. Here are 5 ways you can rock camo for fall 2017.

As a stylist, one of the complaints I’ve often heard about camo is that it feels too masculine. Trust me, I get it – it’s hard to disassociate camo print from military toughness. But here are two things to remind yourself:

1. Incorporating masculine-esque pieces is totally okay. In fact, it’s encouraged to create some contrast in your look.

2. You can also add ultra-feminine pieces to soften a look or trend.

For this look, I’ve paired a silk lace-trimmed top with camo denim. Nothing screams femininity quite like silk and lace. Coordinating supple fabrics with a bold camo print is a great way to approach this must-have trend. For finishing touches, I incorporated a gold statement earring, another big trend for fall 2017, and a soft brown lip to help balance the overall tone of this outfit.

-Massini Parka Jacket

-Massini Silk Tank

-Vanilla Star Skinny Jeans

-Hypo-Allergenic Natural Earrings

-Maybelline Matte Lipstick (Color: 570 Toasted Truffle)

One of the things I love most about camo is the richness of neutral colors. Shades of green, tan and brown all combined are a neutral fashionista’s dream. Considering the colors that make up camouflage, another great way you can approach this trend is monochromatically.

For this tone-on-tone look, I paired an embellished camo pocket tee with a complementary colored silk textured pant. The great thing about this look is that the camo is confined to the pocket detail, which is a great option for those of you who prefer a subtler approach to bold prints.

Another great about this look is that I’ve incorporated a more pajama-like trouser, which allows you to capitalize on two trends at once: the camo trend and the pajama trend.

With a monochromatic concept, it’s important to add a pop of color to your look. You can do that by adding a bold lip color!

-Massini Embellished Pocket Tee

-STUDIO 253 Pants

-Hypo-Allergenic Hoop Earrings

-NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (Color: 20 Copenhagen)

Not everyone is crazy about the rich green that is often found in the camo print. If that’s you, then I want to encourage you to do a camo color change-up. You can opt for a lighter shade!

This camo printed tee combines green and blue to create a lighter shade, which makes it the perfect option for those who want something bold, yet soft and approachable.

To complete this look, I paired the printed tee with black skinny jeans and brass gold statement earrings that have a touch of light blue to further accent the shirt’s base colors.

-Proof Printed Tee

-Celebrity Pink Skinny Jeans

-Hypo-Allergenic Earrings

-NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (Color: Abu Dhabi)

Looking to approach the camo trend in a more relaxed way? A camo moto legging is an easy way to achieve both comfort and style. Considering that this particular camo print is smaller than the type from Look 1, I opted to layer with a solid colored tunic. For a touch of feminine flare, the ruffle detail on the sleeve is a great way to pull everything in.

To complete this look, as well as bring in a little extra color, I finished it with a rose gold double layered hoop.

-Cotton Emporium Top

-Ultra-Flirt Moto Legging

-Hypo-Allergenic Earrings

-NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (Color: Abu Dhabi)

Continuing with the relaxed approach to camo, making an athletic-inspired look is another suitable way to tackle this trend for fall. Rather than opting for an athleisure pant, go for a printed camo dress and layer it accordingly.

This long hooded cardigan is the perfect pair for this skater dress. With trend colors in mind for fall, go for the dark green layering piece rather than tan or light brown.  As you would suspect, darker greens are a big deal this season.

-Cotton Emporium Cardigan

-Proof French Terry Skater Dress

-Hypo-Allergenic Hoop Earrings

-NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (Color: Abu Dhabi)

And there you have it, 5 solid ways you can own the camo trend this fall. As you navigate this trend and incorporate it into your wardrobe, remember that there’s nothing wrong with living a bold and stylish life.

Trend Alert: Velvet

It’s no secret ‘90s fashion trends made a strong comeback this summer, and we can’t wait to transition our favorite retro styles for fall. One of our top picks is luxurious velvet fabric – which is back and better than ever in ways we never imagined. From tees and slip-on shoes to accents and layering tanks, we’ve got all the tips you need to incorporate velvet into your autumn wardrobe.

Velvet tanks and crop tops became closet staples last season, but this fall, soft tees in feminine colors are a must-have. Wear this top with simple denim and a printed scarf to elevate the look (statement necklaces are great too, when it’s too warm for neckwear). For chilly days, the ensemble pairs well with a bomber jacket or cardi – this top can even be paired with a pencil skirt and worn to the office.

Not sure all-over velvet is the right look for you? Dip your toe into this trend with a velvet-accented hoodie. Either pair it with jeans for a classic, casual look, or go for an athletic-inspired vibe with leggings and your favorite sneakers. The athleisure trend is still alive and well this season, so don’t be afraid to add some sport to your style!

Speaking of sports, we can’t get enough of this velvet baseball tee. This casual cut is best for your weekend uniform and, with a touch of velvet, can instantly glam up an outfit. The contrasting shades of blue make this simple look feel bold, while the light wash denim perfectly complements the hem accents. Accentuate these details further with a choker or two (another ‘90s trend to rock this season!).

If you’re not ready to say goodbye to the velvet tanks of summer, use them as a layering piece for your fall tops and sweaters. The easiest way to incorporate the trend is under a printed chiffon shirt – the juxtaposition of textures adds trendy detail to the ensemble.

If you’re looking for a more understated take on the fabric, this velvet-striped tunic was made just for you. The printed, bell sleeve style is eye-catching on its own, but the trendy textile accents take the ensemble to a new level. Pair the top with distressed denim and casual faux suede mules for a laidback autumn outfit perfect for the apple orchard and beyond.

How to Incorporate Clay in Your Fall Beauty Routine

As fall transitions us to cooler months, we’re partnering with our favorite bloggers to show us how they style this season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips and makeup trends to hairstyles and home décor, we’re excited to see how these stylistas gear up for autumn weather. This week, we’re welcoming Meghan of Lincoln Park Minute to share her favorite hair and skincare products for fall using this season’s trendiest ingredient: clay!

In the beauty industry, there’s always a new ‘it’ ingredient of the moment. From vitamin C to hyaluronic acid to charcoal and, most recently, clay. It seems clay is here to stay as a powerhouse material, however, as it’s been a trend throughout summer and now into fall.

Clay is a useful ingredient in beauty products for a plethora of reasons. Used for skincare, clay decongests pores and rids your face of excess oil, dirt and sweat. Similarly, clay haircare products are ideal for those with oily roots or over-processed strands. It holds hydrating properties as well, which are beneficial for both your skin and hair.

Now that you have the lowdown on clay as a beauty must-have, I’m sure you want to take advantage of all that it has to offer. Well, Meijer has you covered! L’Oreal Paris has embraced clay by incorporating it into their skincare and haircare product lines. I picked up some of these products after a recent trip to one of their stores and was surprisingly pleased with clay’s abilities!

One of the first clay products I tried was the Purify & Mattify version of L’Oreal’s Pure-Clay Cleanser. It also comes in two other versions (called Detox & Brighten and Exfoliate & Refine) so you can target specific concerns as needed.

Each clay-to-mousse cleanser is powered by three different clays in their pure form, which remove everyday impurities like dirt, oil and pollution. Living in a busy city like Chicago with lots of pollution, I was happy to hear this. The Purify & Mattify Cleanser is refreshing with its eucalyptus scent and did a great job of removing excess oil from my skin.

Clay face masks are another fantastic way to incorporate the trendy ingredient into your fall skincare routine. I love the Exfoliate & Refining mask made with red algae. It exfoliates dead skin cells, then unclogs and tightens pores. It’s especially great after summer’s dead skin cells have built up from factors like sun exposure, heat and chlorine.

There are two other versions of this clay mask: Purify & Mattify and Detox & Brighten. If you use one of these face masks once or twice a week in addition to the clay cleanser, your skin will look and feel incredible!

This material isn’t only useful for your skin, it can work wonders on your hair too! Thanks to clay, L’Oreal’s Extraordinary Clay Shampoo and Conditioner purify roots and hydrate ends without weighing strands down at all. With everyday use, my hair felt instantly purified and I could go longer without showering.

If you have a particularly oily scalp, adding the Extraordinary Clay Pre-Shampoo Mask into your routine could help absorb oil at the roots. Simply apply to your strands before you shampoo, then say bye-bye to oily hair!

Finally, the Extraordinary Clay Dry Shampoo really gave life to my second day hairstyles, especially when applied before my strands got too oily.

What do you think of clay as a beauty ingredient? How would you incorporate it into your own routine for fall?

The Best Trending Peach Lipstick for Every Skin Tone

As fall transitions us to cooler months, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear this season’s hottest trends. This week, we’re welcoming Liz of With Wonder & Whimsy, Grace of Color & Grace, and Tawny of Glamorously Mommy to share how they pick peach and apricot lipsticks that work for their skin tones.

Each year, the fall season brings the return of our favorite clothing, makeup and accessory trends – from blanket scarves and deep eye shadow to sweaters and ankle booties, we typically know what to expect when it comes to autumn fashion and beauty. But this season, we’re seeing a cool weather lip color we’ve never rocked in years past: peach/apricot. Since this hue is new to our fall makeup regime, we asked a few of our blogger friends to show us the best ways to wear it with every skin tone.

Fair Complexion

With Wonder & Whimsy

Peach and apricot lip shades are such a fun new trend for fall! These warm, golden hues offer a fresh alternative to darker autumn colors. While wine and berry lipsticks create a cooler, moodier look, peach and apricot cosmetics create a warmer, amber glow.

I have fair, rosy skin, and warmer peaches and apricots work surprisingly well with my complexion. Look for a lip color in soft peach that leans pinker than it does brown. I suggest softer, lighter shades over bolder, brighter shades, especially if you’re trying to achieve an everyday look. This Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer in Petalite 540 offers a glossy, shimmering peach finish. I used this lustrous lacquer to inspire the rest of my palette for an easy autumn makeup look.

Complement a soft peach lip color with eye shadows in warm, peachy browns. I used a creamy ivory on the brow bone to highlight my eyes and brighten my face. I then applied a soft Terra Cotta shadow to the lid and a darker coppery brown to the crease. Orange and brown sit opposite blue on the color wheel, making blue eyes pop against warmer eye shadows like this. Apply a lengthening and volumizing mascara to draw your lashes up and out for a flirty, fluttery look. And for your cheeks, choose a blush in soft, warm peaches and browns for a golden ginger glow.

Finish your face with a peachy pout. A shimmering gloss like Revlon’s Ultra HD Lip Lacquer lets you build up the application for a sheer, subtle finish one day and a more pigmented look the next. Get experimental with your lip shades this fall, and give that fair complexion an autumn glow in pretty peach and apricot!

Warm Complexion

Glamorously Mommy

Fall is in the air, which means it’s time to start thinking about how to transition from bright summer lip colors to autumn appropriate shades. Believe it or not, peach and apricot hues are a great choice for this season. I typically pair them with a minimal look, because I want the lip to be the focus of my makeup.

I have warm tan skin, so I often look to peach or apricot colors to complement my skin tone instead of a typical nude. However, there a couple of things I look for when choosing the right color for my skin: depth, opacity and finish.

First, let’s talk about depth. Because I have tan skin and darker lips, it’s important I chose a shade with the same depth as my skin (otherwise the color will look chalky). So when I’m looking for a shade that’s right for me, I often lean toward a color with a bit more brown in it.

Now, you may be thinking, “What is opacity and what does it have to do with anything?” For me, it has a lot to do with how I choose my lipstick! I mentioned above that I have really pigmented lips, so I prefer opaque products to cover up the darkness around my lip line. As you can see below, the lip liner I chose completely covers any darkness and makes my lipstick wear longer.

Here, I used a Rimmer 1000 Kisses Lip Liner in the color Spice to line and fully fill in my lip. Then, I topped it with a Revlon lipstick in the color Peach Me! It’s a deeper peach with a touch of shimmer to it.

Finally, the finish! I love a good glossy lip – especially when I’m wearing bright colors. I tend to have naturally dry lips, so when I’m doing a bold lip I prefer to add a gloss. It makes my lips looks smooth and the color really pop! Here I used a beautiful lip gloss shade from L’Oréal Infallible called Sunset, which is a peach hue with lots of shimmer to add some highlight to this look.

No matter your skin tone, these tips will work for you, too! Just remember makeup is fun, so try different things until you find what looks best on you. And don’t forget all of these products are available at your local Meijer!

Olive Complexion

Color & Grace

I have always loved lipstick with peachy tones! This shade makes my skin appear clearer and brighter, so I use it when I want to look more youthful and well-rested. Thanks to this universally flattering hue, my 43-year-old face still looks quite young.

Peach lipsticks can range from corals to apricots, and even include bright orange shades, as well. I have used bold orange lipstick for years and still love it, but I recently visited Meijer and found a lighter, more feminine color called Coral Cat. It’s from the current Katy Perry and CoverGirl collaboration!

Since we’re currently transitioning from summer to fall, I chose autumn-themed colors on my eyes. A little brown smoky eye brightens up my eyes, but doesn’t steal the spotlight from my pretty lips.

For a more cohesive and unified look, I used the same lipstick on my cheeks as blush, and simply patted it on to blend in.

Tah dah! Here is the finished look. Still not sure if your skin can handle this color? Take a look at these photos of me wearing the shade with a red dress.

It looks super pretty with black and white, too!

So, there you have it. No matter what you wear or what your skin tone is, the peach trend (coral, apricot or orange) looks great on everyone. Peach lipstick will give you a warm, yet skin-brightening glow, so put it on your shopping list and make sure to try one next time you are at Meijer. You may be surprised just how flattering the color will look on you!

6 Statement Earrings Trends to Know for Fall 2017

As fall transitions us to cooler months, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear this season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips and makeup trends to hairstyles and home décor, we’re excited to see how these stylistas gear up for fall weather. This week, we’re welcoming Candace of Live Love & Read to share how she styled six must-try statement earring trends for fall.

At the start of every season, I like to dedicate a day or so to sitting down and familiarizing myself with the anticipated trends for the season.  While I would love to say that I am the gal who purchases her must-have fashion items weeks (even months) before the season actually commences, that just is not my reality. Furthermore, as a woman who believes in making that dollar stretch as far as it can, I’ve found it advantageous to wait until right before the season begins so you actually see what’s “headlining” for the season, as opposed to “trending.” Smart, huh?

While there are quite a few fall 2017 trends that I can’t wait to try, the one I am most excited for is the statement earring.  I’ve said it once and I’ll say it until my dying days: accessories (especially statement earrings) are a simple, surefire way to instantly transform a look without breaking the bank. Although the idea of “statement jewelry” has been present for the majority of this year, the earring department has made some true strides. In fact, I can say with confidence that the statement earring has taken the lead.

Now that you know statement earrings are majorly headlining for fall 2017, here are THE SIX earring trends you need to know for the season.

The concept of a hoop earring has been around for quite some time. Sadly, it went out of style for a short while but is making a strong comeback in 2017. From thinner, to accented, to uniquely colored hoops, the options are truly endless. As you begin to build your go-to statement earring collection for fall, I encourage you to specifically look for large metal hoops. If you are really looking to be adventurous with your accessory style, find a hoop that has a subtle accent mid-hoop, such as this one.

With a good metal hoop in your collection, you can wear them with nearly anything and everything. You could do something as simple as a mock neck top and distressed denim to something as elevated as a slip dress paired with an oversized cowl neck sweater. So, if you are looking for a statement earring with great versatility, the hoop trend was made for YOU.

The tassel trend made its way onto the scene last spring, along with pom-poms. I was not sure if it was a trend bound to stay, but here we are (nearly a year and a half later) and it’s still here. And honestly, time has done it well, as the tassel options feel even more elevated and stylish than when they were first introduced. When it comes to tassel, you can go one of two ways…you can do the beaded tassel that has waterfall effect or you can do the thread tassel. Either are great options, so it truly comes down to personal preference when it comes to the direction you want to go.

The beaded tassel is great for those fall looks that truly need to be dressier in nature, while the thread tassel is great for more causal looks. The perfect pairing for a beaded tassel would be a fall-inspired off-the shoulder top, black denim and a nice stiletto for a date night.

The threaded fringe would pair well with a more casual fall tee, flare jeans and suede ankle boots…think 70’s style.  As a stylist, I would encourage you just to get one of each, as I do not foresee tassels going out of style anytime soon.

Say hello to the ball drop trend. I must admit, this may be one of my favorites. What is so interesting about this trend is that it has dimension and depth to it. As you begin to explore the ball drop trend, you will realize it comes in a variety of sizes. I recommend sticking with the medium to large sizes. If the ball drop is too small, it does not have the same effect. And if you get it too large, the earrings have a tendency to take the attention away from your face and bring the focus to the earring alone.

How you style this type of bauble is dependent upon the material you select, as it comes in multiple options – just like the tassel thread. The most common options of the ball drop trend are metal and threaded. With the metal ball drop, I would style it with a mock neck bell sleeve sweater for fall, nicely colored denim and open-back boot.

As for the threaded ball drop, I would opt to do something a bit more playful. The important thing with the ball drop is the neckline of your blouse. You do not want the earring and neckline to compete with one another. So, if you select a mock neck style, be sure it is a lower cut.

The Crystal Drop will most definitely be the “fanciest” style in your fall statement earring collection. With a crystal of some sort as the focal point of this jewelry design, it was made for the fanciful autumn moments. When you are selecting this style of earring, opt for a neutral stone color so you can get the biggest bang for your buck.

Much like the tassel, the crystal drop concept isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, which is why it is important to select a color that is timeless, rather than just trendy. The crystal drop comes in multiple sizes as well, but for most of us gals, I would recommend that we do a small to medium size so it does not overwhelm the face.

When you approach styling the crystal drop, think dressier. A more luxe blouse paired with a cropped flare trouser and block heels. Or you can even do a little black dress, tights and over-the-knee boots.

If you like the idea of a fun, casual spin-off of the crystal drop, then the sequin trend may be your jam. What’s fun about the sequin bauble is that it is playful in nature. While you could opt to create a slightly dressier look, I vote that you do something more whimsical stylistically.

The sequin was made for a Friday night when paired with cotton shirting fabric (which is also a headliner for the fall season), a pleated metallic skirt and an ankle boot.

Last but certainly not least is the threader statement earring trend. Without question, this is definitely the most unique earring trend of them all. While the earring looks like it is actually threaded through the earring hole, the front post is one piece and the back is the other piece. It’s an illusion piece. I will be the first to admit that I was a bit apprehensive of trying this earring concept, as it reminded me of the 80’s. However, it’s grown on me by the minute.

The threader concept was made for the more minimalist gal. She loves the idea of a big statement earring, but wants to achieve that concept a bit more minimally. The threader stands out when styled simply…with a long-sleeved crew neck tee, dark skinny denim jeans and black block heel ankle boot.

So, there you have it – the six must-know statement earring trends for fall 2017! Remember, including statement jewelry is one the easiest ways to bring new life to your wardrobe. Rather than stressing yourself out thinking about having every single trend represented in your closet, focus on a few. And if you are going to narrow that focus, the statement earring should definitely be one of them! Showcase your personal style by wearing this unforgettable accessory.

How to Take Your Daily Makeup Routine from Fresh Face to Evening

As fall transitions us to cooler months, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear this season’s hottest trends. This week, we’re welcoming Alexis of That Chic Lex to explain how she transitions her everyday makeup routine from morning to night – from fresh face to out on the town.

College students are busy people. Between cramming for your next exam, keeping up a social calendar and attending your weekly sorority meetings, I’m surprised there’s time to sleep – let alone do a full face of makeup.

That’s why day-to-night beauty routines are a college student’s go-to. Well, it’s definitely my go-to. Who has the time to apply makeup twice a day?

Day Look:

To create the foundation of your beauty routine, you’ll need the basics: BB cream, blush, highlighter and mascara. I also use an eyeshadow and a lip palette to add a bit of color. I’ve been loving this rust eyeshadow by L’Oreal (available at Meijer)! It adds the perfect amount of color to my overall look, but is understated enough to be appropriate for everyday activities. I can’t wait to rock this eyeshadow all through autumn!

Step 1: Apply Covergirl’s Clean Matte BB Cream to clean, moisturized skin. It’s the stuff girls with oily complexions dream about – including me! This product is lightweight and gives you just enough coverage, so it’s the perfect foundation for a fresh face look.

Step 2: Although my skin is pretty fair, I prefer rich colors when it comes to my makeup – which is why I chose Elf’s Dark Blush Palette to add some color to my cheeks. I opted for earthy tones like burnt orange and burgundy vs. summery pink shades, since it coordinated with my look and is the perfect transition into the fall season!

Step 3: Although I’m all about a matte look, highlighter is the key to fresh face makeup. I used NYX’s Born to Glow! Illuminator on my cheek bones to brighten up my skin and give it just a bit of sparkle.

Step 4: My favorite part about this routine is the eyeshadow. L’Oreal’s Monos Eyeshadow 306 is a soft, fall color, but it elevated my look nonetheless! Choose a neutral shadow that complements the color of your eyes and apply to each lid using a small makeup brush. You can even apply a small amount to the inside corner of your eye to really make your baby blues (or greens, or browns) pop.

Step 5: No look would be complete without a little mascara. One of my favorites is made by Elf – not only is it inexpensive, but it also works wonders! Apply to your top and bottom lashes to accentuate the eye-popping shadow you chose, and if a little gets onto your lids, don’t worry. Just grab a cotton swab and carefully remove the excess mascara.

Step 6: Finally, I can’t leave the house without some form of lip product. L’Oreal’s LA Palette gives me lots of different color options, including natural tones like nude, muted pinks and reds.

Night Look:

For any nighttime look, you only need to focus on accentuating one or two areas of your face. I typically choose to highlight my lips and eyes.

Step 1: When you’re headed out for the evening, eyeliner is a must. If you want to draw extra attention to your eyes, try adding some eyeliner where your lash line meets your lid. If you’re feeling extra bold, try a cat eye style! Just add a short swoop at the outside corner of your eye. My rule of thumb is to tilt the wing up so it’s even with the edge of my brow, but any size or length looks great for a night out.

Step 2: The final step for transforming your look from day to night is to choose a rich, dark color like L’Oreal’s Infallible Paints Metallics 336. I’ve wanted to try a metallic lip for quite some time, so once I saw this lip stain I knew it was for me! Bronze-y lips are the perfect bold trend to rock this season.

What’s your go-to day-to-night look?

The Best Outfits for Your Next Football Game or Tailgate

As fall transitions us to cooler months, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear this season’s hottest trends. This week, we’re welcoming Andrea of Blonde Bedhead to share how she shows her spirit on game days with MSU licensed apparel from Meijer.

Fall in Lansing means only one thing: MSU Football Saturdays! My dog James and I have our fair share of MSU swag—most of James’ apparel is already from Meijer, like his go-to jersey and bandana.

As for me, I have countless MSU sweatshirts and tees (you really can’t have too many) and when I spotted this beautiful poncho at Meijer, it had my name all over it. I truly love ponchos—they’re effortless, versatile and I love the boho vibe it lends to a look. This is the most stylish, functional option to have in my closet for MSU game days.

I layered it over a white tank, which is perfect for warm days – but as it cools down, I plan to layer it over a leather jacket, long-sleeved tee or sweatshirt. It’s the super chic version of tailgate style! I love the Spartan green, white and grey stripes, the fringe, and it even has an embroidered Spartan helmet on the bottom left side. I thought it was a steal at $29.99!

Since James already has a bandana and MSU jersey from Meijer, I picked a grey Spartan tee and the large MSU leash. The leash is available in three widths (perfect for dogs of all sizes), but I love a big, bold leash. And when it comes to tailgate style, the bolder you are, the better. We both bleed green!

The 4 Top Fashion Trends for Girls this Back-to-School Season

With September just one short week away, the temps are cooling, leaves are changing and summer vacation has officially come to an end. For your kids, this means the return of classrooms, homework and extracurricular activities, in addition to what is arguably the best part about back-to-school: shopping! We all remember the excitement of choosing our outfit for the first day, and the options for young girls have only gotten trendier with time. From accessories, to fabrics, to playful details and more, we have the scoop on all the styles young girls are sure to love.

Must-Try Trend #1: Colorful Patches

Remember the enamel pins you saw everywhere last fall? Colorful patches are this year’s take on the kid-friendly trend. Whether they’re featured on a tulle skirt or a pair of denim jeans, patches present the perfect way to personalize your child’s wardrobe.

Must-Try Trend #2: Sporty Chic

It’s never been easier to find on-trend clothes your kids will love, especially thanks to adorable designer, JoJo Siwa. As a former “Dance Moms” star turned young entrepreneur, JoJo is fun, bold and active – just like her fall collection. Her self-inspired separates are both on-trend and comfortable, so your little fashionista can sport her styles all day long.

Taking the “tennis shoes with everything” trend of the moment a step further, JoJo designed sporty separates to pair with feminine pieces this fall. When worn with a glam skirt and a girly JoJo Bow, this jersey-style graphic tee is perfectly juxtaposed. The top also looks adorable when donned with jeans with a high low cuff, or a pair of denim shorts while the weather is still warm. Want to rock an adult version of the sporty chic look? Check out blogger Nina Rand’s tips for making sneakers part of your street style.

Must-Try Trend #3: Faux Suede

To add some interest to your child’s outfit using texture, opt for faux suede pants in their favorite fall shade. We can’t get enough of olive green, tan and maroon – this trend is basically a fresh take on colored denim of years past. One of the best parts about these bottoms is how soft and velvety they are, so from classroom to playground, your daughter will always be comfortable.

Must-Try Trend #4: ‘70s Fringe

No matter if you were in school in the ‘70s or not, we can all appreciate fringe and vintage-inspired bell sleeves. Girls can pair this faux suede vest with a printed dress and flats, or throw it over jeans and a graphic tee for a more casual version of the trend. Vests are also the perfect piece to transition from summer to fall – it’ll keep your kids just warm enough on those first few crisp mornings.

All of these designs are now available at Meijer, so head to your store and let your little ones get shopping! And for more kids’ style inspiration, check out how to incorporate their favorite colors while school shopping.

The 4 Best Ways to Style Sneakers for Fall

As fall transitions us to cooler months, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear this season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips and makeup trends to hairstyles and home décor, we’re excited to see how these stylistas gear up for fall weather. This week, we’re welcoming Nina of The HSS Feed to share how she’s incorporating comfortable New Balance sneakers into four different street style-ready outfits.

If I could spend every single day in my sneakers, there’s a pretty solid chance that I would. Combine that comfort with fall style, and that’s a trend I can absolutely get on board with.

When you look around at street style on Pinterest and Instagram lately, you’ll see lots of outfits pairing sneakers with everyday ensembles. Today, I’m excited to share four ways to wear my New Balance shoes (all now available at Meijer!) with outfits outside of the gym this season.

Can athleisure please be a trend every season? Although gym attire pairs best with sneakers most of the time anyway, you can certainly create a more polished look for running errands, heading to brunch or, if you’re like me some days, just to spend the day in! Your favorite pair of leggings and a cool crew neck sweatshirt are the perfect match for these gray New Balance shoes with a pop of pink.

I always love seeing the dress/sneaker combo on Pinterest, but I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off as well as the ladies sporting the look. An easy way to approach this outfit is to start with a neutral shoe, like these silver New Balance sneakers, then opt for a solid dress in a color you love. I tend to stick with black because it’s versatile, but the cardigan adds texture and a light layer that’s perfect for transitioning into fall.

Denim Dos

This look is subtly sporty with the striped band on the lace sweatshirt, making it work even better with a pair of New Balance shoes. These cropped jeans with a frayed hem are not only perfectly on trend, but also help show off your adorable, everyday sneakers! I love this outfit for weekends when I’m out and about with friends, but it also helps me feel put-together for casual days at home.

Floral Jacket

I love all of the details in this outfit! The silky jacket, lace hem of the tank and dark denim make it feel more dressed up, but the sneakers add a level of comfort that really completes the look. All of the pieces in this ensemble are versatile, so you can mix and match with items you already own to create a look that’s perfect for the office on Casual Friday (or even date night!).

How are you sporting sneakers in your everyday style? What’s your favorite way to wear them outside of the gym?

The Best Face Masks for Dry or Sensitive Skin

Transitioning temps can take a toll on your skin, so it’s important to refresh your beauty products as the seasons change. Whether you’re headed back to school or just looking to update your regimen, face masks could be a great addition to your skincare routine this fall. While a single face mask won’t cure your woes instantly, investing in a few different options and creating a habit can make a difference. So if you’re looking to treat your skin to some TLC, here are three at-home face masks that work wonders on sensitive complexions.

The Sheet Mask: Yes to Cucumbers Calming Paper Mask

If cool air has your face feeling dry and irritated, the Yes to Cucumbers Calming Paper Mask is for you. Cucumbers are proven to decrease inflammation and redness, so this mask will even out your skin tone while providing intense moisture. Skincare experts say cucumbers also cool and shrink blood vessels, and can therefore reduce puffiness on and around your eyes. There’s a reason you’ve always seen women unwind with cucumber slices!

One of the best parts about this mask is how easy it is to apply. Simply open the package and place the mask on clean skin, then use your fingers to adjust around your eyes, nose and mouth as needed. Either relax or go about your day for ten minutes, then gently remove the mask and throw it away – no rinsing required! Massage the remaining serum into your skin, then finish with your favorite moisturizer to lock in the calming ingredients.

Pro Tip: This mask is also great to have on hand through the end of summer. Aloe Vera is one of the mask’s main ingredients, so it can soothe sunburned skin after a long day at the beach.

The Clay Mask: SheaMoisture Sensitive Skin Mask

To relieve your skin from irritation caused by the weather or your makeup, give the SheaMoisture Sensitive Skin Mask (available at select Meijer locations) a try. Key ingredients include SheaMoisture’s Peace Rose Oil Complex, which softens, smooths and moisturizes dry skin. Rose oil also has astringent properties to treat acne-prone complexions and serves as an anti-inflammatory to combat redness and irritation. SheaMoisture’s skincare line is made with natural and organic ingredients, so you don’t have to worry about harsh chemicals harming your face. Did we mention their products smell wonderful, too?

To use, wash your face with your usual cleanser, then apply. Leave the mask on for ten minutes, then remove with a damp cloth and pat dry. Your skin will be left feeling calm and refreshed!

The Mud Mask: Yes to Miracle Oil Primrose Mud Mask

If you loved the rose oil in the SheaMoisture mask, the Yes to Miracle Mud Mask is another great choice for you. It will leave your skin feeling squeaky clean and moisturized, but its gentle ingredients help avoid tightness or discomfort upon removal. The formula is also designed to reduce redness in your complexion, so your skin tone may appear more even after regular use.

Before you go to bed or after a long week, apply this mask to clean skin, then rinse it off after ten minutes. It’s like a professional spa treatment, but from the comfort of your home!

Simple Fall Decorating Ideas for a Cozy Home or Apartment

As fall transitions us to cooler months, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear this season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips and makeup trends to hairstyles and home décor, we’re excited to see how these stylistas gear up for fall weather. This week, we’re welcoming Liz of With Wonder & Whimsy to share how she’s refreshing her home décor for autumn.

A neutral, all-season palette gives you flexibility with transitioning your home décor from one season to the next. One of my favorite color combos right now is blush, ivory and gold, since the soft hues create a space that feels airy, light, and clean. Believe it or not, blush functions much like a neutral. It can skew cool in the spring months when paired with pastels, or warm in the fall months when paired with rustic earth tones.

My living room features a warm neutral palette of ivory, beige, blush and wood. These are versatile hues that look great all year round – a blank canvas that allows me to play with different accent colors each season. For fall, I favor an earthier aesthetic. I like to accessorize with raw materials like wood and marble, plush and cozy textiles, and pops of autumn color. By incorporating decorative elements like pillows, candles, throws and accessories, you can easily update any space. I recently stopped into Meijer to shop their home décor department, so I’m sharing my picks and a few tips for a fall refresh.

Take Note of the Latest Trends

A simple way to refresh and modernize your space is to look at the latest trends. It’s fun to shop for something new and current and to incorporate it into your existing style. Rose gold is super popular right now, and mercury glass is an ultra-glam trend that pairs beautifully with rustic elements. I purchased a pair of lamps from Meijer to refresh my buffet and lend a warm, rosy glow to my living room. Plus, they fit with my all-season décor, so I can change how I style them throughout the year.

Add Pops of Seasonal Color

Color is my favorite strategy for refreshing a space. It’s such a simple way to reinvigorate a room, create a mood and transition your decor from season to season. An apple cinnamon candle brings a bold pop of red to the room and fills the space with autumn scents. A bouquet of autumn blooms rounds out the color palette with rich, warm tones. You can also make use of things you already have and curate your existing décor by color. Stacked books, board games, and glass bottles in shades of red and gold keep the palette focused and popping.

Incorporate Rustic Materials

For fall, I like to decorate with heftier, rustic materials like stoneware, pottery, wood and marble. These materials are also very trendy right now, and Meijer has a nice selection of accent furniture and accessories to help you shop the trend. I purchased a few pieces to update my collection and incorporate some earthy and eclectic elements into my space. The vase is a great all-season piece, but stuffed with colorful wildflowers, it makes the perfect fall bouquet. The cheeseboard is cut in a diagonal line, with one half wood and the other half marble. This is a really neat piece that’s both functional and stylish, the ideal canvas for a cornucopia of tasty fall snacks.

Accessorize with Plush, Cozy Textiles

Fall is the season of all things cozy. We like to hunker down with our pumpkin spice lattes, a good book and a cuddly blanket. Plush textiles like velvety throws and fluffy pillows add warmth and texture to a space. They’re functional but comforting, and really lend a welcoming, homey feel to a room.

Provide Warm Lighting

Decorating your home is all about curating a space to evoke a certain mood. And for fall, many of us want to feel warm and cozy. Lighting is another way to achieve this. It’s a simple and affordable way to create a welcoming respite from the autumn chill. Stylish lamps and flickering candles provide a soft, warm glow and romantic atmosphere.

Refreshing your space for the new season doesn’t have to be expensive or a chore. By incorporating a few new pieces from Meijer and using what you already have in creative ways, you can make your home a cozy and comforting retreat this fall!

5 Simple Ponytail Hairstyles to Try this Season

As fall transitions us to cooler months, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear this season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips and makeup trends to hairstyles and home décor, we’re excited to see how these stylistas gear up for fall weather. This week, we’re welcoming Lisa of LMP Collections to share five easy ways to elevate a basic ponytail.

Autumn is my absolute favorite time of year, and the only thing that’s worse than spending time curling your hair while it’s beautiful outside is the damage hot tools can do to your strands. During the summertime, I like to give my hair a little bit of a heat break – but it’s a great habit to get into all year round! This fall, I’ve been playing around with letting my hair air dry naturally, and then styling it from there without using straighteners or curling irons.

It’s so easy to fall back on a basic ponytail (especially when I’m in a rush), so over the past week, I’ve tried various ways to update the classic ‘do. I rounded up five fun and simple ways to elevate a ponytail, and they’re all perfect for transitioning my beauty routine for fall!  Did I mention these are also easy to do on-the-go!? There’s no time to waste when we could be out picking apples or sipping pumpkin lattes!

First, let’s talk about all the products I use to prep my hair for these styles.

The number one item I need to take my hair from shower to street is a Wet Brush. It’s the gentlest brush I’ve ever tried and the only one that doesn’t pull all my hair out when it’s tangled! It’s the perfect item to have while styling some epic ponytails.

Dove Volume + Fullness Dry Shampoo is another item that’s great to always have around – I typically keep two or more bottles handy at a time. If you’re looking for a style to combat second day hair, spray dry shampoo on your roots before trying the ‘dos below. Use your fingers to make sure the product gets completely worked in!

I’ve used this Bed Head Smoothing Cream for years. My sister got me hooked on it and it works like magic! Apply a small amount of this product to wet hair before it air dries to keep your locks under control before pulling them back into a pony. Smoothing cream is perfect for any season, too – it helps tame frizzy flyaways during the summer and rids my hair of static when fall rolls around.

Finally, Dove Extra Hold Hairspray is always a styling necessity. It’s the essential finishing touch to any great ponytail!

Now that you know which tools you’ll need, we’re ready to talk about my new favorite up-dos.

1. Double Ponytails

Sometimes we all want what we can’t have, am I right? That’s how I’ve always felt about long ponytails. Thankfully, I’ve learned the trick to achieve just that – double ponytails. Yes, you read that right! I start with a half pony, and then create another one with the rest of my strands, about one or two inches below the first. The pony on top should overlap with the bottom one, making your hair look longer and fuller than ever! Crazy how something so easy can step up your ponytail game.

2. Middle Part Ponytail

Using the same double pony method from Style #1, part your hair in the middle to create a whole new look! Adding a fun bandana around the hair tie makes for a fun, girly flare – you could also wrap your hair around the tie or use a bright scrunchie!

3. Low Ponytail

Low ponytails are just so flattering on everybody! For this specific style, I parted my hair on the side and tied my pony on the opposite side. To give my locks a fuller effect, I gently teased my strands near the hair tie and at the ends, then grabbed a smaller section of hair from the pony and wrapped it around the tie. For a little something extra, don’t be afraid to play with unique bobby pins and clips! I love how modern and simple these geometric clips are.

4. Braided Ponytail

Kicking it up a notch, why not add a braid to your classic, casual pony? Start by braiding just a few pieces of hair (the section you would use for a half pony) and then secure it all with a colorful scrunchie. If you guys didn’t know, these retro hair accessories are making a comeback! Not only does this look take less than 30 seconds, but it also adds a fun retro flare to your casual fall outfit.

5. Side Ponytail

To add a bit of spunk to your side pony, secure it with a cute, colorful tie at the top and then about two or three inches down, add another colored tie. Take the hair in-between the two ponies and gently pull to make a bit of a “bubble” effect!

There you have it, ladies! These hairstyles will help you beat the heat and keep your hair healthy and strong through the end of summer and into fall.

Ideas for Beautiful Outdoor Dining Table Décor

As we near the transition from summer to fall, it’s important to take advantage of the warm weather while we can. Before the temps cool and the leaves begin to change, host a rustic outdoor picnic with your closest friends and family! We partnered with Samantha Elizabeth to help her do just that – and give you inspiration for your own end-of-summer gathering. Whether you’re organizing an elegant bridal shower, baby shower, bachelorette party or fall dinner with your girls, we have all the secrets to making your next backyard party Instagram-worthy.

Wood Accents

Whether you’re celebrating summer or hosting your first harvest party of the season, wood is a great foundation for any outdoor picnic. Stack recycled wood pallets to create a rustic makeshift table, then incorporate the material further with a stained cutting board or serving tray. A charcuterie spread is delicious and aesthetically pleasing, no matter the season – just replace your summer fruit with apples and cranberries for fall.

Earthy Elements

You can also use earthy elements as a base for your drinks and dessert platter. A vintage wooden chest doubles as a table when moved outside, and fits effortlessly into the rustic theme when it’s painted white and distressed. Tie in raw materials by stacking a piece of plywood and log cake tray – you can even decorate a pastry with flowers or greens from your garden. Finally, a sprig of baby’s breath is the perfect finishing touch for this set-up, whether laid next to your rosé or in a bottle-turned-vase. To update the spread for an autumn get-together, swap your blush-colored beverage for your favorite red wine or cider.

Metallic Utensils

Another on-trend necessity for your next outdoor picnic comes in the form of metallic mugs and utensils. Copper, rose gold and yellow gold are having a moment, but they’re also versatile enough to use all year round. Don’t be afraid to mix and match metals, or incorporate other rustic materials into your place settings (like canvas, twine, wood, and herbs – rosemary sprouts actually are a great garnish for your napkin rings!). Serve grapefruit mules in your mugs until summer comes to an end; then switch to cinnamon apple cider or spiced punch when the leaves start to fall.

Floral Centerpieces

Fresh flowers are a natural centerpiece for a garden party or picnic, and will help bring a pop of color to the otherwise neutral setting. Peach, purple and yellow peonies are a perfect choice for summer, while roses, sunflowers, and heleniums look great for fall. Either place the flowers into small, clear vases or re-purpose Mason jars to stay true to your rustic theme.

Cozy Seats

For an extra cozy vibe your guests will love, create a seating area with throw pillows, blankets and rugs. Pastel blue will complement your summery accent hues well, while plaid prints will add a fall twist when autumn is in full force. Hang globe string lights to add a rustic, romantic ambiance (and to allow your party to continue long after the sun sets).

Now that you’re covered when it comes to picnic essentials, learn which color you need in your closet to transition your wardrobe from summer to fall.

College Shower Caddy Essentials You Need for Your Dorm

The first day of the semester is just around the corner, which means the return of homework, all-nighters and residence halls. While you’re probably prepared with college essentials like school supplies and dorm décor, it can be easy to forget about dorm shower necessities. Whether you’re sharing a bathroom with your roommate or your entire floor this year, here’s what you’ll need to fill your shower caddy.

1. Exfoliating Scrub: After a long day filled with classes and homework, give your face some much needed TLC with Clean & Clear Deep Action 60-Second Shower Mask. Its oil-free formula reaches deep to the pores to dissolve dirt, oil and even makeup, working with the steam of your shower to leave your face feeling clean and refreshed.

2. Body Wash: Between school, sleep and your social life, a few minutes to spare are few and far between. Save time in the shower with Aveeno Active Naturals Positively Nourishing Body Wash– it cleanses AND moisturizes, so you don’t have to worry about lotion post-rinse. It also contains natural ingredients like shea butter and fig to keep your skin looking healthy (and smelling great, too!).

3. Sponge: Gently exfoliate while you shower with a colorful Net Sponge. It’s a simple step and your skin will thank you!

4. Disposable Razor: Early first semester, the weather is still warm and shorts are still an option. Invest in a Gillette Venus Tropical Disposable Razor to keep your legs looking smooth in class and after hours.

5. Shave Gel: To achieve legs that are both soft and smooth, incorporate Gillette Venus with Olay Moisturizing Shower & Shave Cream into your shaving routine. It gently cleanses while you shave, so it’s the perfect two-in-one.

6. Shower Cap: For those mornings you oversleep before your 8 a.m. class, have a Bath Collection Animal Print Shower Capon hand. By keeping your hair dry during a quick in-and-out rinse, you’ll be ready to go and on your way in no time! (Check out these easy ideas for second-day hair– you can thank us later).

7. Shampoo and Conditioner: On mornings you do have time to wash your hair, use OGX Fade‑Defying Orchid Oil Shampoo and Conditioner. Their potent blend of extracts will hydrate your hair, giving it the ultimate shine – they can also protect color-treated locks from fading.

8. Shower Comb: If you’re on a time crunch and need dry hair stat, use a Goody QuikStyle Water Wicking Shower Comb. It reduces water by 20 percent and removes moisture with every stroke.

With these essentials, you’ll have everything you need to put in your shower caddy – just don’t forget the towel!
