Summer Outfit Inspiration: 4 Casual Dresses to Add to Your Wardrobe

As the spring chill finally gives way to summer warmth, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up their wardrobes for warm weather styles.

This week we’re welcoming Maya of Charmingly Styled to share her four favorite casual dresses for summer and how to style each of the one-piece-wonders!

After waiting months for warmer weather in the Midwest, I can finally say the summer season is upon us! Showers aside, the weather is starting to warm up and I’m excited to see the sun return after months of hibernation. Most of all, I’m happy that it’s officially dress weather, and I’ve been busting out a few of my favorites from last year – as well as adding a few new looks to my closet, too. I recently scooped up a few trendy dresses at my local Meijer store in Chicago, and not only are they super cute, but they’re affordable too! To celebrate the weather, here are a few of my favorite looks for the season at a price that can’t be beat.

Striped for Summer

striped-blue-dress

I’m a big sucker for stripes 365 days of the year, but there’s something about the perfect striped dress for summer that gets me extra excited. I’ve never met a stripe I don’t like, and when I spotted this blue and white nautical number at Meijer, I knew I had to add it to my closet ASAP. It’s perfect for weekends walking around Chicago neighborhoods, or even for more casual days around the office. Paired with a fresh pair of tennis shoes and a statement gold necklace (both from Meijer), I’m ready to tackle my day in the perfect comfy look.

Boho Vibes

This season is all about putting embroidery on everything – and honestly, I’m not mad about it. As a flower child at heart, finding the perfect bohemian dress at a steal was like hitting the jackpot, and I absolutely adore this classic, loose fitting dress for summer traveling and exploring the city. It’s comfy, flattering and looks good with a simple pair of sandals and a delicate gold necklace. It’s important to not go too overboard with a dress that’s all about the little details – you always want to make sure the embroidery steals the show!

Chambray Chic

Chambray is one of those trends that will always be in style, so whenever I find a beautiful, light chambray dress, I can’t help but make a home for it in my closet. I recently found this one at Meijer and loved the flattering cut and the tulip sleeved detailing (one of summer’s hottest dress trends this year!) I paired the look with a chunky rose gold necklace and this beautiful fringe purse I also scored for a steal at Meijer – isn’t it gorgeous?!

Tied in a Knot

This is one of those new-to-me trends that I’ve been loving these days, and dresses and shirts with a little knot are the perfect, casual look for spring and summer. It’s a minor detail, but adding a knot creates a cute cinched waist look with your favorite cotton dresses. I found this striped version at Meijer and knew that I had to have it for summer – especially with the $20 price tag! It’s perfect with metallic flats and my new go-to fringe purse I’m planning to rock all season long.

Have any summer trends you’re living for these days? Please share! We’d also love to know what Meijer summer pieces you’ve scooped up this season so far!

3 Stylish (and Comfy) Alternatives to Your Go-To Pair of Leggings

As spring begins to peek around the corner, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for a new year of style.

This week we’re welcoming Andrea of Blonde Bedhead to share a few stylish, yet comfortable alternatives to your go-to pair of leggings – including joggers, soft shorts and culottes!

I’m guilty of occasionally leaving the house in a pair of leggings and crewneck sweatshirt—comfortable yes, but doesn’t inspire much style. Whether you’re running errands or grabbing dinner with friends, jogger pants, soft shorts and culottes are a few great alternatives to consider for legging-level comfort, but high-level style.

Jogger Style

Joggers are an easy, chic replacement for leggings. They’re just as cozy, but with an athleisure vibe—so I styled this outfit as such. My love for distressed denim also transcends to this pair of joggers because they have knee rips. It gives the jogger pants a bit of an edge, which I always gravitate towards!

I added a crop top, a pair of running shoes and a silky olive green bomber that I also snatched up at Meijer. I love the oatmeal tone of the joggers and olive green tones for spring, just a few neutral shades I’m wearing on repeat so far this season.

Soft Short Style

Now that we’re creeping into summer, high-waisted shorts like these are a great option for hot, humid days. Tuck in a billowy top, add a crop top or wear with a body suit—there really are so many styling choices when it comes to a pair of versatile shorts.

I added a jean jacket and platform oxfords to keep a more casual style. But what I love about these shorts is you could easily add a pair of pumps and leather jacket to style for cocktails!

Culotte Style

Culottes are universally flattering and equally as comfortable as leggings. The pant style can work for any occasion — I regularly rock them for client meetings with a structured top, or for brunch and shopping with friends with an off-the-shoulder shirt (like this!).

The culottes from Meijer come in several colors, but a black pair transitions well from season-to-season, making them easy to re-style! I paired my culottes with this fun take on the off-the-shoulder trend, another great top I scored from Meijer in olive green. It also comes in blush, which was a difficult decision to make, since I’m digging both blush and olive green tones this season!

The Comfiest Summer Clothing Trends to Try Right Now

Beyond the warm temps that summer is known and loved for, the season also brings carefree clothing trends that we’re (always!) obsessed with. The best part about the hottest styles of 2017? They’re insanely cute – and insanely comfortable. We can’t get enough of this year’s soft, summery outfits, so we’re sharing four of our favorites to serve as inspiration throughout the season.

Flowy Shirt + Pants

Gone are the days when pairing a flowy top with wide bottoms was a fashion “don’t” – now, it’s a fashion “please do!” Just be sure to complete the combo with cork wedges vs. flats to give your outfit the length it needs to look totally balanced. We especially love this chic ensemble for summer, as you can easily incorporate other seasonal trends like bold colors, floral print, ruffles and shoulder details. In fact, our favorite part of this combo is how the striking, red culottes accent the dark, flowery pattern. And did you notice these bright turquoise earrings? Small details make such a difference when highlighting shades in a colorful print!

Wide Leg Jumpsuits

From gauchos to palazzo pants, bottoms with a wide, loose silhouette are one of our favorite trends this summer. When you combine this look with the ever-popular jumpsuit, your outfit reaches a whole new level of cute (and comfort!). Plus, this one-piece wonder is extra trendy, thanks to the vibrant embroidery featured around the scoop style neckline. To ensure you don’t take away from those delicate details, skip the pendant or statement necklace and opt for a choker or bare neck instead. The intricate, embroidered design is a statement in itself! Finally, complete the look with a pair of black block heel sandals for a fiercely classic ensemble that’s sure to turn heads.

Soft Tee + Shorts

A basic graphic tee and loose patterned shorts are the perfect combination for a sunny day on the beach. The soft, cottony fabric is breathable (great for high temps) and comfortable (perfect for an afternoon filled with activities!). For an extra summery vibe, knot your tee at the bottom, then balance out the look by choosing high-waisted shorts. We can’t get enough of this boho-inspired pair – the elaborate pattern of the bottoms perfectly complements the simplicity of the top! Finish this ensemble with natural hair, “no makeup” makeup and classic cork sandals (or sneakers!) for an effortlessly casual outfit your friends will envy.

Bodysuit + Shorts

If you’re looking for an ensemble that embodies the athleisure trend to a tee, pair an active-inspired short with an off-the-shoulder bodysuit. We went the monochromatic route with a white top and black bottom, but don’t be afraid to rock your favorite summer shades. Pink and yellow are our go-to colors this season! When it comes to footwear, this outfit could be paired with your gym shoes or basic sandals – both are totally comfy and would look fabulous. Finally, pull your hair into a trendy half top knot, letting your natural hair texture shine in the bottom half of the style.

Hemlines and Heels: How to Style This Spring’s Spotlight on Ankles

As spring begins to peek around the corner, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for a new year of style.

This week, we’re welcoming Lauren from Lake Shore Lady to share how to wear a variety of hemlines and pairs of shoes as she showcases her five favorite looks for spring.

Though it might not quite feel like it yet, spring and summer are definitely on their way. As we ease into warmer temps, it’s so fun to play around with different denim hemlines… and maybe even expose our ankles again – gasp! But the absolute best part of spring denim trends is obviously pairing them with cute shoes. Right? Right.

Luckily, Meijer is always there to remind us that you don’t need to spend a crazy amount of money to be fabulously stylish. Yes, it IS possible to have fun with fashion on a budget, and these five looks are total proof. Let’s take a look:

Double Cuffed Jeans + Keds

Who doesn’t like a good pair of Keds?! There’s a reason they’ve been around for so long – they’re classics! Plus, they’re crazy comfortable and perfect for long walks, running errands all day, or even sightseeing. I don’t usually wear sneakers with anything but workout gear, but will always make an exception for these cuties. The key to styling? Go with a cuffed jean to show off the shoe. No boot cut jeans allowed!

Raw Hem Jeans + Mules

This look is so 90s and I love it! The light wash, the frayed hems and, of course, the mules. The only thing missing is a choker! I love that mules and a thicker, block heel are making a comeback. It’s such a sleek yet comfortable trend… and the best way to test it out is with a super affordable pair like these. I love to style them with a trendy raw hem in my jeans, as the messy fray is a perfect counterpoint to the structured mule.

Cropped Jeans + Ballet Flats

Ballet flats can sometimes seem a little blah – but add a crisscross design and I’m on board! Make sure you pair these with a cropped pair of jeans so you can show off that ankle strap. I wore a casual long sleeve tee for this look, but you could totally swap it out for a flirty blouse for a night on the town.

Gaucho Pants + Beachy Sandals

Culottes, palazzo pants, gauchos – whatever you want to call them, they’re back! The soft, flowy style is beach-inspired and has got me dreaming of more days in the sun. Find a pair to cinch at your waist, then tie your tee at the same spot (or wear a crop top!) and finish the look with a fun pair of sunnies and bright, beachy sandals.

Distressed Jeans + Block Heel Sandals

I firmly believe that every girl needs a pair of nude sandals – bonus points if they also have a low, walk-able heel! I’m so glad I found this new block heel pair at Meijer to replace my last go-to sandals (which had seen its fair share of miles). Seriously though, you’ll wear them all the time! They go with anything, especially these distressed jeans and pretty cold shoulder top. Just make sure to cuff your hem to show off that trendy, modern block heel!

What are your favorite pant + shoe combos?!

Trend Alert: Embroidered Tops

As spring begins to peek around the corner, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for a new year of style.

This week, we’re welcoming Tieka from Selective Potential to share her three favorite ways to style embroidered tops for spring.

When you picture a classic boho-inspired wardrobe, you immediately think of embroidered details, right? I’ve been working to nail down my personal aesthetic lately, and boho-inspired, folk styles are definitely what I love most (especially in a casual, girl-next-door kind of way). I was SO delighted to find items that fit this exact vibe at Meijer that I couldn’t wait to share my favorite ways to incorporate the embroidery trend this spring.

Collage 1

Look One

I’m obsessed with this darling black-and-white embroidered top, complete with loose sleeves and a peplum fit. This Massini top barely required any styling, because it’s a statement piece on its own! For this outfit, I paired the shirt with frayed denim jeans and some tawny, suede ankle boots. If you’re feeling a bit chilly, you could add an olive green cardigan, or if you’re in warmer temps, this top would be cute with a pair of denim shorts and cut-out sandals! As for your hair, loose waves go with any sort of boho-inspired look.

blush embroidered shirt

Look Two

For my second look, I chose this blush, John Paul Richard top from Meijer. This is honestly my favorite piece of clothing right now — no joke. It’s embroidered, lined and the quality is AMAZING. With this flowy, light-colored style, I chose darker denim with neutral flats, an olive-y brimmed hat and long, dainty jewelry. I could easily see this top being remixed several ways this spring — perhaps next time with a pleated chiffon olive green skirt?

pink shirt with embroidery and cardigan

Look Three

For look three, I found this spring-y, pink embroidered top. The Massini shirt is adorable on its own, but since it was a little bit colder (we’re so close to spring!), I paired it with a knit cardigan, dark denim, neutral ankle booties and a dusty blue crossbody bag. I’m excited to style the top several different ways this spring though… with a cute floral skirt, or some frayed white denim and casual tawny sandals.

I hope you enjoyed these different looks featuring tops from Meijer! Are you planning on incorporating embroidered items into your wardrobe this spring?

How would you describe your personal style?

I’ve started to realize that I always pick out black pants and black shirts when dressing for work, and don’t really focus on other styles or colors. My favorite color was navy and – let’s be honest – that’s really only black’s cousin. This year, I’m trying to focus on getting outside of my bubble and looking at trends when shopping. I’ve been experimenting with colors like coral and lime green, but by “experimenting,” I mean one sweater.

Why is fashion important to you?

Your style is the first thing people see when they look at you, so I think wearing your heart on your sleeve (literally!) is a great way to get your personal message across without saying a word. Whether your fashion choices are fun and patterned or sleek and buttoned-up, I believe what you say about yourself using fashion is important. This is especially true as a young professional, as you want to be fun as well as taken seriously.

What motivated you to want to meet Stacy London?

I love my personal styles, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for a few updates and changes. When picking out clothes, I get really concerned about making sure I feel comfortable in the things I wear. And, because I’m a larger size, I want to make sure my clothing choices look the best for my body.

What comes to mind when you think about plus-size shopping and body positivity?

If you really think about the fashion industry as a whole, plus-size is the new average. But even with that fact, so many stores make you shop for plus-size clothing in different sections of the store or even online-only. I love that Meijer is allowing plus-size shoppers to change the narrative of their own style. Now, it doesn’t have to be “I’m going to buy this because it’s available.” Instead, it’s “I’m going to buy this because I love it.”

Why were you looking forward to a day with Stacy London?

I love my solid colors and basics, but I want to experiment more with colors and accessories. Although my go-to black shade is classic, it would be nice to get out of my comfort zone – something I don’t usually do on my own. Hanging out with Stacy and getting her input would force me to try on patterns and colors I would never pick out for myself!

So… How did it go?!

Today was great! I was able to try on a lot of new pieces – some I loved, some I didn’t, but I never would’ve tried them on by myself, so it was overall a really awesome experience.

The best advice Stacy gave you… go!

When discussing my style choices, we also talked a lot about some of the activities I do on a regular basis. Stacy asked, “you’re bold in your life, why are your clothes not bolder?” And she was right, which was such an eye-opening moment! Moving forward, when I go shopping, I’m going to try and reach for pieces outside my comfort zone and push the limits of my own style.

With all your fresh fashion knowledge, what is your new favorite outfit?

This bright color and flowy fabric – that’s perfectly light for spring – is something I’d never normally grab. But actually, I love this color and will look for it much more often now. Before today, I didn’t even own a pair of skinny jeans, so picking them up was actually very exciting. As we were shopping, I didn’t even see many normal, solid basics. Instead, there were a ton of trend items, which is really exciting to see from the Massini brand.

Also, the woman styled my hair using hairspray before and after all the styling, which allowed the look stay longer and was less frizzy throughout the day. Overall, really great tips I can bring to my day-to-day routine!

Lauren - Stacy London

How did this experience affect your current fashion choices and the way you view your style?

I think a lot of us get busy with our lives and start to feel stuck in many ways – including fashion. The easy thing becomes shopping online or going back to the same store you’ve always tried. But I think I really need to take the time to get out there and try new things on in person – because this color, I would’ve passed it by on the internet. But as it turns out, I received a ton of compliments on the color all day, and that’s something I never would’ve known without simply reaching out and trying something new. That adventurous outlook on fashion will be the biggest message I take away from this whole experience!

Karina Re-Discovers Her Style with Stacy London

Following her recent partnership with Meijer’s Massini brand, style guru Stacy London selected three Meijer Team Members to spend the day shopping. She styled each woman and shared the latest and greatest Massini trends, available exclusively at Meijer. After their personal styling session, the women enjoyed a hair and makeup tutorial, compliments of L’Oreal. Read on to learn more about team member Karina’s experience, and see exclusive footage from her style experience with Stacy London.

Karina - Stacy London

Name: Karina

How would you describe your personal style?

My style is all about comfort. Since I work in Meijer’s warehouse, I usually dress with the weather: shorts and a tank top in the summer, sweatpants or jeans and a sweater in the winter. But that also translates to my home style: comfort all the way! But if I’m going on a date or out with friends, I might put on a skirt or a flowy top, just to switch things up. I mean, I get tired of wearing jeans and sweatpants all the time!

Why are you looking to change up your look?

Honestly, I just need something a little different and thought this experience would be a good way to find it! I’ve always liked the look of more trendy pieces, but budget-wise, I’m not usually able to afford the more stylish pieces. And, I don’t know, I always come back to what makes me the most comfortable.

What comes to mind when you think about body positivity?

Body positivity… it’s something I’m still working on. I’ve recently gained a little bit of weight, and I’m working on enjoying and living in the body I have. It’s been a journey, but I’m working on it.

What’s your typical shopping routine?

My closet is full of things I’ve had forever, and I usually don’t buy clothes unless I really have to. Mainly, it’s because I can’t find anything I like when I’m out shopping, or only find things I don’t think would look good on me. Really, shopping is just something I don’t do unless I absolutely have to. Over the years, my three boys’ needs – shopping and otherwise – have always come first.

So why were you looking forward to a day with Stacy London?

I’m typically the quiet, shy, behind-the-scenes type of person. I thought this experience would be something new and different, and might help me bust out of my shell. With my boys all grown and gone, I’m a little stuck. I’m not usually the outgoing person who strikes up conversations, but maybe being a little more stylish will give me the confidence I need!

So… how did it go?!

Today was fun! I really enjoyed myself and stepped way out of my box – but I’m OK, I’ve survived, and I think I can try this again! The experience is something I’ll never forget because even though I want to update my style, I’ve also learned that simply being myself is 100% OK.

Karina - Stacy London

How did this experience affect your current fashion choices and the way you view your style?

Stacy taught me not to be afraid of colors and prints, and showed me tons of cute, trendy pieces in Massini. Though there were a few outfits I tried and didn’t love, Stacy and I got to talk about why they worked or didn’t, and it helped me really try new pieces and understand my own style.

What did you learn about your own personal style through this experience?

My favorite look is perfect for a date night out! Though I’m not a big makeup wearer, I think I’ve discovered a lot about my personal style and fashion choices. There were a few things I saw on the rack and would’ve never picked up before. But I tried them on and thought they looked amazing on me! This experience has taught me that going outside of my comfort zone and trying on new things could make for a surprisingly perfect outfit.

Today was an absolute whirlwind that I completely enjoyed. Thank you for choosing me for this experience!

3 Blogger-Approved Ways to Style Shoulder Details

As spring begins to peek around the corner, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for a new year of style.

The weather is (finally!) starting to get warmer, which means spring fashion trends are back and better than ever. Varying shoulder details will be popular in 2017, so this week, we asked three style bloggers to share their favorite versions of the look.

Shoulder Details

Andrea of Blonde Bedhead loves how embroidered shoulder details help her channel her free spirit.

“I can’t get enough of shoulder details lately, whether they’re featured on a top or a dress. They create playful, bohemian vibes that remind me of carefree springs and summers. I especially love the chevron embroidery on this shirt! The look has ‘free spirit’ written all over it – and I’m trying to channel my inner Zen and go with the flow a bit more! I styled the top with high waist ankle jeans, chunky ankle boots and a crochet choker that matched the sleeves’ design.”

Cold Shoulder

Lisa, the blogger behind LMP Collections, says cold shoulder tops are the perfect match for her comfy, bohemian style.

“My go-to spring style could definitely be described as comfortable bohemian with a touch of my own flare! Cold shoulder tops are a fun addition to any outfit – I styled mine tied at the waist and paired with casual, printed bottoms. I knotted the shirt at the hem to create separation from the wide leg pants; then topped off the look by adding a brown leather bag and my signature accessory, round sunglasses!”

Off-the-Shoulder

Sam of Samantha Elizabeth is drawn to off-the-shoulder tops that are both fun and flattering.

“With spring right around the corner, I’ve had the urge to update my wardrobe! I’m drawn to items that are flattering and fitting for this phase of life as a new mom, so lately, off-the-shoulder tops have been catching my eye. They are flirty, fun and show skin in just the right place…making me feel comfortable and confident at the same time. This particular top from Meijer has ¾ sleeves, which I love, and the tie detail at the elbow adds something unique. The neckline can be worn completely off the shoulder for a more dramatic look (or a night out), or up and more on top of the shoulder for daytime activities!”

Melissa’s Dreams Come True During a Day with Stacy London

Following her recent partnership with Meijer’s Massini brand, style guru Stacy London selected three Meijer Team Members to spend the day shopping. She styled each woman and shared the latest and greatest Massini trends, available exclusively at Meijer. After their personal styling session, the women enjoyed a hair and makeup tutorial, compliments of L’Oreal. Read on to learn more about team member Melissa’s experience, and see exclusive footage from her style experience with Stacy London.

Melissa Stacy London

Name: Melissa

How would you describe your personal style?

I honestly don’t know if I have one particular style that defines me. I love clothing that’s both cute and comfortable, and I end up wearing a lot of black – even though I love color! However, my obsession is with jewelry and makeup. I tend to pair bold accessories with clothing in classic shades of black, navy and grey to balance out.

I want to be trendy, but I’m in my 40s and can’t wear the “younger” fashion pieces. Fit and sizing are always a concern when trying to define my style.

Based on your past, what comes to mind when you think of body positivity?

Years ago, a cardigan was my go-to clothing item because they covered me up, and that’s what I thought I needed: to cover up! I used to only focus on being a mom and raising my son without spending any time on myself. Over the years, my friends helped me focus more on myself and my own well-being, which has led to a much-appreciated confidence boost. Now I know I still have plenty of life to live, and want to treat myself to the life I deserve.

For ages I’ve had to shop in a separate plus-size section – which always seems to feature pieces meant to “cover you up.” I don’t want to look like I’m 20 years older just because my size is a little bigger than the average woman. I think it’s fabulous Meijer is the first to incorporate plus-size clothes into the women’s section, so everyone can shop and wear the same trendy styles together!

So why were you looking forward to a day with Stacy London?

I’ve wanted to meet Stacy London since I first heard about her 15 years ago and used to beg friends and family to put me on her show! Stacy is so full of life, energy and positive vibes, and I’ve always wanted to pick her brain on how she manages to inspire so many people.

I know I’m ready for the next phase of my personal fashion. I just got out of my funky-mom-phase and am trying to really live again. I would like to be more confident about my style choices. At the end of the day, meeting Stacy is even more about me than the fashion – this is truly a check on the bucket list!

How did this experience affect your current fashion choices and the way you view your style?

My styling session was phenomenal, and it was surreal getting to meet Stacy. Though she did help me improve some of my fashion choices, it actually meant so much that she complimented me on how I looked before the process!

Melissa Stacy London Massini

The best advice Stacy gave you… go!

Never try on just one piece at a time – try on an entire outfit. You might not need to buy the entire outfit, but you’ll have a much better idea of what the whole ensemble will look like.

What was the most surprising part of your styling experience?

Stacy put me in some pieces I probably wouldn’t have selected for myself: smaller sizes (which felt amazing!) and different style options. I don’t think I would have chosen this top for myself, and I know I would never have tried it on – but I love it!

Melissa Stacy London Massini

With all your fresh fashion knowledge, what is your new go-to clothing item?

I love the boots I’m wearing right now. Although they’re heels (and I never wear heels), I think they look fabulous with the outfit I have on. I also love the other pieces I’m wearing – I just would never have picked them out for myself!

What do you want other Meijer Style shoppers to know about this experience?

It’s been neat to watch Stacy at work, as she’s really taken the time to get to know each of us and our style. We all got to try on a ton of new outfits, and she wanted to make sure she found exactly the right look for each of us. Actually, that was my favorite piece of it: how much effort she put into making sure the new Massini line really worked for our bodies, instead of the other way around.

Any final thoughts on this experience?

I just want to say thank you – I’ve started 2017 in such an amazing situation! In a million years I wouldn’t have guessed that working for Meijer would one day give me the opportunity to spend a day with Stacy London. Thanks for making my dream come true!

This week, we’re welcoming Nicole from Class to Closet to share her must-have products and styles for the perfect spring break vacation.

It’s that time of year again! Spring break is a glorious week that allows us to escape to a tropical destination (and save ourselves from the frigid temps of home). I don’t know about you, but I live in Ohio and it gets very cold here in the winter. Every year, I look forward to taking a trip and getting away from the chill, so today I’m sharing my travel essentials that make for a carefree spring break – without breaking the bank!

spring break luggage

The first go-to is my favorite sun protection combo: a high-quality sunscreen + dry oil. I’ll use the sunscreen on the places where I tend to burn, like my face and chest, but will apply the dry oil on the rest of my body to prep for a tan.

summer skincare products

I love Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport sunscreen because it stays on, even if I’m sweating or decide to get into the water! As far as oils go, Banana Boat Dry Oil with SPF 8 has amazing multitasking capabilities – with infused argan oil, it both moisturizes and tans.

bikini and swimsuit cover

My next essentials are a super cute swimsuit cover-up and an adorable printed bikini. I found this Wave Zone tunic at Meijer and fell in love! First off, the color is on point – a solid teal will accentuate your tan, plus it matches any (and every) shade of swimsuit. Second, it has the most beautiful crochet detailing, which makes it stand out from other simple styles. Finally, I absolutely fell in love with the neckline – it’s super flattering. I can’t wait to sport this cover-up at the beach!

When it’s time to take off the cover-up and soak up some sun, I’ll be rocking this Inmocean bikini. The high neckline is super trendy, and the floral print is perfect for a spring vacation.

When the day is done, I can transition my beachy outfit from day to night with a pair of chunky, cut-out Massini sandals. The block heel is my favorite shoe trend for spring, and I love that they go with my bikini AND a classy dinner outfit. These sandals are a staple transition piece this season!

summer skin and hair products

As far as beach beauty, I absolutely have to have a sea salt spray and the perfect shade of nail polish. Who doesn’t love the loose waves they get from being in the ocean? I love spraying Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Spray in my hair before going out to dinner, in order to really bring out my natural waves. As far as nail style, Essie’s “Bahama Momma” is the perfect fuchsia color to bring out your new-found tan!

While I’m lying out on the beach, my personal favorite thing to do is read. Before I leave for a trip, I love picking up a summer-inspired book to bring along. This year I picked up “The Vacationers” by Emma Straub and cannot wait to read it!

summer active wear

When it comes to the actual traveling portion of your spring break trip, a cozy-yet-chic outfit is the way to go. This RBX oversized grey sweatshirt is incredibly comfortable, but I still feel put together while wearing it out and about. I think the plain grey top goes super well with these RBX printed army green leggings, which are totally on trend and beautifully feminine.

To complete the casual outfit, oversized Massini sunglasses pull everything together, while also covering up my makeup-less face. And the frame is perfect for transitioning from airport to beach!

spring break makeup bag

As soon as I land in my dream destination, I always refresh my skin and makeup to start the trip off on the right foot. At Meijer, I picked up this super cute London Soho New York makeup bag to hold all my touch-up essentials.  After spending hours in the sky, my skin needs some TLC right when I arrive. I like to pop on a Freeman face mask to truly freshen up my skin, as it cleanses and hydrates at the same time!

Speaking of freshening up, I also always keep a safety stick of deodorant in my bag for quick application. Secret deodorant in Summerberry is a perfectly fresh scent for spring break!

To finish up my refreshed look, I always carry a girl’s best friends: quality mascara and a summer lip color. This Maybelline mascara is one of my favorites because it’s easy to apply and doesn’t get clumpy. Finally, this NYX lip butter gloss in Peaches and Cream – a beautiful hot pink – is the perfect way to finish up my look, while keeping my lips looking lovely and moisturized all day!

Pretty in Pink

As spring begins to peek around the corner, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for a new year of style.

This week, we’re welcoming Candace from Live, Love and Read to share how she’s styling this spring’s pink trend, from blush styles to bold beauty.

Supposedly, Greenery is the 2017 Color of the Year. However, if you’ve had your ear to the ground, you’ll know that pink is really shaping up to be the star color for 2-0-1-7. Yes, PINK.

From the red carpet to Paris Fashion Week to the streets, pink is without a doubt the go-to color if you are looking to make a statement. Before you tune me out, when I say statement, I do not mean the frou-frou, girly girl notation that has been attached to the color pink for years! In fact, you can pretty much say goodbye to all the negative pink stigmas.

While the color undoubtedly still represents femininity, it now represents it in a much more powerful, daring and unique way. Now granted, most of us gals won’t be waltzing the red carpet in a bright pink gown like Zoe Saldana did at the Golden Globes. But there are a few subtle – yet not so subtle – ways we can integrate pink back into our wardrobe for the coming spring season.

I like to take the CIAC approach: clothing item, accessory and cosmetic. Categorizing pink by item will allow a bit more ease and efficiency as you aim to think pink again.

Look 1: CLOTHING ITEM

Thinking pink in terms of your clothing can be a challenge… for the simple fact that it’s pink. Changing one’s mindset in regards to color requires time. No worries. You do not have to jump in six feet deep. Take it easy by exploring the softer side of pink.

A blush top with a dramatic sleeve still has the same impact as a bright pink top. The wide neckline on this pale top is also a fun take on this year’s cold shoulder trend.

For those of you who feel a bit more daring, try a printed palazzo pant with a shade of pink as the focal point and layering it with a complimentary pink top and a few classic accessory pieces.

Look 2: ACCESSORY

Personally speaking, I think accessories are the icing to an outfit. If you are not quite ready to commit to pink through your clothing items, accessories are a great alternative. You can go as loud or as subtle as you desire.

This slightly masculine look, which is an aesthetic majorly trending this year, is given instant femininity by completing it with a soft pink handbag and complimentary bracelet set. While the sunglasses are dominantly gold, the pink hues beneath the gold create an effect that allows a hint of pink in your eyewear without having too much.

Look 3: COSMETIC

When it comes to living on the LOUD side of color, we tend to take a few steps back. As we’ve discussed, wearing a BRIGHT pink top or pant may be a bit unnerving and too loud in rediscovering color.

However, when it comes to exploring color, there is no such thing as too bright in cosmetic land. If you are itching to go super bright with pink, but are not feeling confident enough to make that statement with your clothing, opt for a bright pink lip color!

With spring on the horizon, this is the perfect time to be pretty in pink. Just remember that pink is indeed in, and utilize CIAC to approach your color exploration systematically! We’ve all heard the saying: slow and steady wins the race. Take it from a stylist – the same thing applies to style!

Sporty-Chic Outfit Inspiration for Every Personal Style

There are so many great aspects of athleisure – it’s comfortable, it’s versatile, what’s not to love? Style bloggers are raving about a new fashion-forward take on active wear, so we’re sharing our favorite looks to give you some fresh outfit inspiration. Whether your style is feminine or edgy, these sporty-chic staples just became your new wardrobe must-haves.

Athletic-inspired leggings

Cult-favorite Adidas is known for striped pants – which makes these trendy Meijer leggings feel instantly sporty. The best part about the cute, stretchy bottoms? You can change your entire look based on how you choose to style them.

To put a feminine spin on the active-inspired look, wear floral-patterned leggings with an off-the-shoulder top. Opt for a neutral shade to ensure you complement your print instead of distracting from it.

If you’re shooting for a look that’s laidback, yet edgy, stick to a solid monochromatic theme from your head to your toes. Pair black and white pants with a classic white tee, then finish off the look with neutral shoes and accessories (more on that later!).

Sporty-chic dresses

For a casual and comfy take on the dressed-up athleisure trend, opt for a loose, cotton dress with all-white or all-black tennies. You could go super simple with a straight, solid style, or spice things up with a print like tie-dye. Either way, stick to a greyscale color palette to keep your look fresh and modern. Whether you prefer a crisp, clean look or a playful, carefree vibe, this one-piece wonder looks great on everyone.

Monochromatic accessories

To prove your athletic-inspired outfit is definitely not meant for the gym, pair with crisp black and white accessories.  Traditional Keds are totally adorable, but don’t shy away from details like lace! Finally, a pair of neutral tortoise shell frames will bring an effortless vibe to your ensemble. Opt for sunglasses if you’re headed out and about, or try faux eyeglasses if you’re feeling extra bold!

Once you’ve got your neutrals on lock, add a pop of color to your look with these blogger-approved makeup trends.

The Must-Have Active Items for Winter Outdoor Running

As winter’s chill sets in, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From style tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for winter weather.

This week, we’re welcoming Bruna of Style Mile to show us the must-have active items for moving our running workouts outdoors this winter.

active wear for outdoor run

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with running. I’m prone to shin splints and I live in Michigan, so let’s be honest – jogging in the cold weather doesn’t make it on to my to-do list often. But I’ve recently decided to give running another chance. I’m not aiming for a certain speed or distance; I just want to get out there! Whether I run one mile or four, I’ll be happy just the same.

stretching while running

As it turns out – and I’ve said this before – exercising in cute clothes makes the (sometimes daunting) task feel a LOT easier. I needed warm and affordable styles to help me brave the great outdoors, so I visited my local Meijer to do some active wear shopping.

athletic leggings with mesh cutouts

The first thing I saw was THE cutest pair of RBX leggings. They’re fashionable, flattering and they keep me warm (even with mesh cutouts down the leg!). You better believe I’ll be wearing these all winter – they’re perfect for outdoor workouts AND a casual brunch with friends.

Next, I picked out a cozy RBX jacket to match. It keeps out the cold, but is lightweight enough that I don’t have to shed any layers mid-run.

Finally, to keep my ears toasty, I grabbed a neutral-colored MTA Sport beanie. It looks adorable with a low braid, low bun or ponytail! For the warmer days, I also picked up a MTA Sport headband – it’s thick enough to cover my ears, but doesn’t constrict my head too much (don’t you hate that?!).

wearable fitness tracker

While I’m not racing against the clock on most of my runs, I still love tracking my time with the Polar FT4 training watch – it comes in multiple colors, so you can choose your favorite! It also includes a heart rate monitor, which helps me make sure I stay in a healthy and comfortable zone. It’ll be fun to see my time improve as I stick to this new running routine!

Finally, on days where I can’t hit the pavement until the sun is already down, I like to toss on a Stanley Waterproof head lamp for a little extra light. I also like to wear a set of Avia reflective gloves in order to stay safe near any late-night traffic.

Now that I’m all geared up for the cold weather, I’m ready to rack up the miles in fab style!

How to Build an Active Wardrobe in Under $75

As winter’s chill sets in, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From style tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for winter weather.

This week, we’re welcoming Danielle of Lou What Wear to share how to build a brand new active wardrobe under $100, and how to stay stylishly on trend for your New Year’s resolutions!

Let’s be honest – sometimes New Year’s resolutions are a little vague. If I want to make any change, I need my goals to be more concrete. Two years ago, I made my New Year’s goal to run the Kentucky Derby Mini-Marathon. Now I’m running it back (no cheesy pun intended but I’m happy about it) and making it my goal for 2017. May even try to take it up a notch by attempting to finish faster than my first attempt! It’s a little ambitious, but I think it can happen.

Running long distances hasn’t always been my bag, but I re-found the joy in it last time I trained. Before then, you couldn’t pay me to run more than one or two miles straight. Now I actually enjoy (I know, I’m the worst) a good, long run.

There’s something almost mind-numbing about it, in the same way I find coloring or doing a puzzle relaxing. Lately, I’ve been using the time to catch up on my favorite TV shows, so running for 45+ minutes is a breeze!

meijer activewear workout gear style new year

That’s not to say that I still don’t need a lot of motivation to get my butt on the treadmill. New workout gear has a somewhat magical way of making me actually want to work out. Yes, it’s totally ridiculous but I can’t be the only one that is motivated by new gear.

I’ve recently gone on a bit of an activewear shopping spree, and this whole outfit was less than $100 (no like, WAY less than $100). Picking up this essential wardrobe was super easy at Meijer because they had such trendy choices for all my must-haves:

  • MTA Sport Legging ($12): I’ve worn these pants a few times already and everyone was so surprised when I told them they were a Meijer find! I love that the fabric allows for full flexibility, and the ombre design adds that little bit of extra motivation for hitting the pavement in style.
  • MTA Sport High Impact Sports Bra ($15): How cute is the back of this bra? I’ve been on a bit of a black and white kick lately, so this fits my personal style bill while adding that bit of back detail that makes the whole look come together.
  • MTA Sport Fast Drinks Tank ($11): The perfect top for showing off my fabulous new sports bra! The open back of this tank is also ideal for wicking away any worked-up sweat from my long run.
  • MTA Sport Sweatshirt ($23): This sweatshirt is beyond comfy. It may be getting more use for my trips to the couch than my trips to the treadmill (#sorryimnotsorry).

Yes, I may have veered into the activewear section on my last marathon shopping trip. It makes getting groceries way more fun when you come home with new gear.

But back to the running, if anyone has a few great playlists or new shows to watch – send them my way. I’m going to need all the help (and by help I mean distractions) I can get!

What’s in Your Gym Bag? All the Necessities You Need to Crush Your Next Workout

1-meijerstyle-08jan2017-gymbag-apparel-hero

If hitting the gym on the regular is a new habit or resolution, it can be tough to remember exactly what to bring. But don’t worry – we’ve got you covered. From the best gear and apparel to our favorite snacks and shower supplies, here’s everything you should pack in your gym bag this year.

2-meijerstyle-08jan2017-gymbag-apparel

First things first… collect your workout attire.

Bold shades and prints remain a hot athleisure trend, so choose a bright (and supportive) sports bra to pair with your colorful, patterned leggings.

As for your top, a moisture-wicking tank is definitely the best choice. Your sweat will evaporate quickly and easily, keeping you cool and dry throughout your entire routine. It’s also a good idea to have a sweatshirt on hand – you might want it for your warm up or if you take your workout outside.

Finally, it’s always important to remember your athletic shoes and socks (unless you’re planning to practice your yoga flow, of course).

3-meijerstyle-08jan2017-gymbag-products

Next, pack your gym necessities. We’re talking post-workout snacks, shower essentials and more.

During your workout, you’ll need a water bottle and headphones. They’ll keep you motivated and hydrated until it’s time to cool down.

Post-workout, it’s important to have a high-protein snack (or two) to refuel. Energy bars, almond butter and fruit are all great choices. When it comes to re-hydration, opt for electrolyte-filled drinks in addition to your water.

When you’re feeling re-energized and ready to hit the showers, you’ll want to have lotion and a hair brush on hand. For pain-free detangling, pick up a Wet Brush at Meijer – they’re specially made for damp locks, so they comb through hair effortlessly.

Finally, if you don’t have time to shower, make sure to use a face wipe. It’s crucial to remove sweat from your skin to prevent breakouts!

Now that you’ve got your fitness essentials on lock, time to get to the gym and crush your next workout!
