The Top 3 Trends All Guys Need to Try this Summer

All season long we’ve given our attention to the ladies, so now it’s time to turn our focus toward the gents. Edgar + Ash is our new apparel line for men, which offers style and comfort for the laidback, surfer-esque guy.

Gone are the days of shabby gym shorts and old tees – clothing options for men have become much more abundant and fashion forward. So if you’re ready to help your guy up his style game this summer, show him our three favorite trends for men in 2017.

Hawaiian-Inspired Prints

From a day on the boardwalk to dining al fresco, this look is perfect for guys with a surfer-esque style. Embrace the trend fully by opting for a short-sleeved print button up, or go for an understated take with a classic striped tee. The Hawaiian print pocket acts as a bold accent here, bringing the hip, carefree outfit to a whole new level. Complete the look with a pair of solid breaker shorts, or choose casual comfort with a pair of matching joggers. Is he intrigued by patterns but a little nervous about florals? Read on for a modern take on everyone’s favorite retro print.

Tie-Dye Tees

We all know that ‘90s fashion is back and here to stay, so why not re-introduce a staple trend from your childhood? Mono-colored tie-dye tees are great for classic guys, who are also looking to add something more adventurous to their closets. Put a sporty spin on this style by adding a solid, sleeveless hoodie, or opt for something more modern by tying the print around his waist (see the beginning of this post for inspo). Both offer a contemporary take on an old school trend – so no matter which you choose, we promise you can’t go wrong.

Pink (Yes, Pink!)

Style experts say that pink will be the color of 2017, so rose-colored shorts, jackets and tees should definitely be in your man’s closet. Pink has become a color of power for both men and women – so guys shouldn’t shy away from this traditionally feminine shade. Blush pastels are the perfect addition to a light, neutral outfit and always look great whether you’re dressed up or dressed down. If he’s hesitant to add this rosy hue to his wardrobe, refer back to our advice from a few sections up. Find a tee or tank that includes pink on a small portion, or within a print that features other colors too.

With these hot summer trends, the men in your life will be looking their best.

The One Color You Need to Transition Your Wardrobe from Summer to Fall

Although we’re still in the heat of summer, our minds (and closets!) have begun the shift to fall. It’s about time to retire our vibrant, colorful staples and slowly transition back to autumn hues. In order to make the breakup a bit smoother, our longstanding color crush Olive Green is here to put a fresh spin on this season’s wardrobe – even before the leaves start to fall. If you’re as in love with this earthy hue as we are, read on for four ways to transition this shade from season to season.

Lingerie-Inspired Lace Tank Top

Wear It Now: For a work-appropriate summer ensemble, tuck this tank into a pencil skirt and throw a basic cardi over your shoulders. Complete the look with block heel sandals or simple ballet flats; then add a short statement necklace as an extra chic accessory. If your plans involve a day date or shopping spree instead, denim bottoms and strappy sandals create the perfect laidback look.

Wear It Later: To transition this tank from summer to fall, pair the top with an oversized ‘90s-esque blazer. The feminine floral print coordinates with the tank’s lacy details, and the silky material matches that of the olive green top. To add to the juxtaposition of dressy and relaxed styles, finish the outfit with distressed denim and neutral slip-ons or sneakers.

Embroidered Tank with Fringe Tassels

Wear It Now: Pair this olive tank with your go-to denim shorts for a casual, carefree look made for festivals or street fairs. The boho-inspired embroidery will be the focal point of your outfit – which means necklaces aren’t necessary and your earrings should be understated. Pull your hair back to let the details shine and finish the ensemble with cork slip-ons or strappy sandals.

Wear It Later: This top can transition to cooler temps in no time by adding a cozy cardigan in a neutral tan or cream. Add your favorite jeans or tuck the top into a midi, then opt for wedge booties or mules instead of sandals. This tank would also look great with a pair of colored jeans in another fall shade like burnt orange, cream or khaki.

Sheer Top with Ruffled Sleeves

Wear It Now: For a relaxed, yet temperature-appropriate look, try this sheer and breathable olive green tunic. The effortless flow of this top makes it easy to wear with anything, while the subtly ruffled sleeves still give it that statement look. Pair the tee with capris on a cool summer night, or your go-to denim skirt for a casual daytime vibe. To complete the outfit, add tan two-strap sandals to dress it up, or opt for velvet ballet flats for a more comfortable option. As for accessories, gold bangles and hoop earrings are just enough to complement this simple ensemble.

Wear It Later: As soon as fall hits, a top like this is perfect for any activity – day or night. The sheer, lightweight material can keep you cool during the day, and is easily paired with a denim jacket for a night out. Wear the top with black skinny jeans or clean-cut, denim capris to transition into two completely different looks. Finally, add gold, silver or a pop of yellow jewelry to elevate your fashion-forward fall outfit.

Suede Tee with Lace-Up Details

Wear It Now: This suede lace-up tee reminds us of all things boho, which is why it’s a natural pair for a flowy cotton skirt. Go simple with a solid, neutral midi-skirt, or pair it with a bolder patchwork style fabric. If you’d rather let the olive top do the talking, opt for a classic denim skirt or shorts when choosing your bottoms.

Wear It Later: To make this look more cool-weather-ready, add a cozy knit cardi and dark wash denim jeans. Complement the top’s tassels by choosing a sweater with fringe, then finish off the look with a pair of brown, faux leather booties. Metallic statement earrings or bracelets will make the outfit pop, while pulling your hair back will let the lace-up details shine

Top ‘90s Trends to Try (Again!)

It’s no secret that ‘90s trends are back for spring and summer, and it’s taking us on a trip down a stylish memory lane. From chokers and velvet to old school blouses and jeans, we’re wishing we’d never cleaned out our closets from back then! However, the best part about these trends coming back is we can marry them with our favorite looks of 2017. If you’re ready to put a modern twist on your favorite ‘90s comebacks, check out our top five trends from the decade to try again.

1. Shoulder details

There’s no doubt shoulder details are having a moment in 2017, but they were also an iconic trend back in the ‘90s. While ‘90s fashion had us pulling one shoulder out of an oversized tee, today’s version is a little more intentional. From cold shoulder, to off-the-shoulder, to shirts with shoulder cutouts, this look is – and always has been – one of our summer faves. Channel your inner ‘90s gal and pair this trend with high-waisted denim, or opt for breezy soft shorts in hammered satin to put a modern spin on the outfit. And by the way, don’t be afraid to throw prints into the mix, too. Timeless patterns like floral will never go out of style!

2. Ruffled blouses

Vintage-inspired ruffles were a staple of ‘90s dress wear, but in this decade, we’re welcoming a more casual take on the look. We love this trend paired with light wash denim and sneakers (especially when the upper and shoelaces are made of velvet!). You can also transform this trend for work, so never fear – just tuck the top into dress pants or a high-waisted pencil skirt, then finish off the look with a pair of block heel sandals. Extra style points if you incorporate a choker + pendant necklace combo.

3. Menswear-inspired blazers

Oversized blazers aren’t just cozy, they’re also on trend right now. While this look featured pinstripes and wool fabric in the ‘90s, we put a feminine twist on our modern version of the suit. We can’t get enough of this silky, floral print material – and love how it looks when paired with an otherwise casual outfit, like this lingerie-inspired, lace tank. If you’re not into the juxtaposition of dressy and laidback styles, throw the blazer over top of a solid fitted sundress. The options are endless when it comes to this outerwear!

4. Statement jewelry

While your accessories no longer feature peace signs or yin and yang, the bold nature of ‘90s jewelry easily translates to modern trends. Statement necklaces and earrings add the perfect touch to present-day outfits, whether they highlight large pendants, beaded fringe or classic dangly hoops. Our favorite looks include all of the above, as there’s no better ode to ‘90s fashion than to stand out from the crowd. Pair your favorite pieces with a faux jumpsuit look created with closet staples of solid, fitted tanks and soft culotte bottoms in hammered satin.

5. Velvet shoes

We all remember having velvet in our closets as kiddos, and now this material is back in style in ways no one ever expected. From tennis shoes to “flatforms,” our favorite modern way to rock this fabric is on our feet! Go the simple route with slip on sandals or neutral, velvet sneakers – or make a statement with details like roses and pompoms. No matter your personal style, this is a ‘90s trend that everyone can pull off.

The Best Lightweight Jacket for Midwest Summers

Beyond the classic denim jacket, there’s one must-have summer jacket that will elevate any outfit: the wear-everywhere bomber.

While a denim jacket is perfect for adding classic Americana style to just about every sundress, it’s the bomber jacket that adds intrigue to your favorite printed tanks and cut-off shorts. The best thing about the bomber? It’s universally flattering – perfect for every age, body and style.

Fashion blogger Jenn Wolf and her mom, Audrey Wolf, show us just how easy it is to style the same olive bomber jacket (with a little help from fashion expert Stacy London)!

The Bomber Jacket

Part of the Massini collection, this lightweight bomber gets a sporty contrast with a black collar and cuff. Wear the jacket open with sleeves pushed up all summer, and trade in your flip flops for ankle booties when leaves start to fall. This multi-season piece works as both a summer and fall layer – perfect for extending your wardrobe for all types of temps.

Try the Trend: Classic Style

Audrey’s classic style means she usually rocks basics, but the Massini bomber jacket makes her outfit instantly trendy. A cream floral tank gets an extra dose of color with the olive bomber jacket, while a multi-strand necklace brings her look to the next level. Paired with classic medium-wash bootcut jeans, her look is truly ageless – and great inspiration on how to try a trend.

Love the Tend: Next Level Fashion

While Audrey mixes basics with trend pieces, Jenn’s look combines summer’s hottest styles in one fun-loving outfit. Since 2017 is all about tassels, she dons them on both her bright floral tank and an eye-catching powder blue bag. Denim cut-offs are a summer essential, and by adding a wrist-full of beads and a handkerchief choker, her look shows us it’s absolutely possible to wear all your favorite trends at once.

4 Ways to Take Your Gym Outfits to the Next Level with Athletic Details

We’ve talked gym bag essentials, the best shoes for every workout and even how to build an active wardrobe for under $75, but now it’s time to take our athletic wear to the next level. How, you ask? It’s easier than you think – and (literally) all in the details! From sheer fabric and cutouts to bold leggings and accents, we’ve got all the secrets to elevating your trendy gym style.

Open Back

Open-back tops are great for two major reasons: 1) They’ll let the breeze in during outdoor summer workouts and 2) There are endless ways to subtly show off your personal style. You could display a trendy sports bra with intricate racerback details, or opt for a bra with shoulder straps for an understated look. Whichever option you choose, don’t forget the sunscreen (or risk a back full of crazy tan lines post-sweat sesh)! Want a few extra style points next time you hit the gym? Pair this top with printed leggings that feature small, sheer openings.

Mesh Details

To spice up your active wardrobe in a more subtle way, choose a top that features mesh fabric along the hem of your sleeves. The best part about this tank? It’s breathable AND stylish. A few years ago mesh was just intended to keep you cool, but now, it’s a fashion statement and a must-have gym staple. Don’t be afraid to pair this look with bold leggings – the sheer fabric may be understated, but it won’t be overshadowed! Just make sure the pants’ pattern features the shade of your trendy top (or go simple with a solid bottom, if you’d prefer).

Statement Leggings

While it may seem like this trend is not for the faint of heart, we assure you anyone and everyone can pull it off! The key is to pair printed bottoms with a simple, solid top – either in a neutral shade like grey or a bold, matching tone. For example, this outfit (modeled by Andrea Kerbuski of Blonde Bedhead) would also look amazing with a lime green shirt!  TBH, leggings are one of our favorite athletic trends, both for summer and all year ‘round! Brightly colored gym attire is always an energy booster.

Bold Accents

Finally, a super easy way to incorporate simple, summery details is to marry your neutrals with your favorite accent color! This outfit features a bright peach hue from sports bra to shorts, which creates a bold undertone and we’re totally here for it. You could also incorporate your accent shade a few additional ways, like on your shoe laces, a headband or a hoodie tied around your waist. The opportunities are endless when it comes to this trend!

A great workout is guaranteed when you look and feel good, so get these essentials in your closet ASAP.

Floral Prints for a Stylish Spring Picnic

As the spring chill finally gives way to summer warmth, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up their wardrobes for warm weather styles.

This week we’re welcoming Liz of With Wonder and Whimsy to share her favorite ways to style this season’s must-have pattern: floral.

Nothing says springtime like florals! Just like fresh flowers, floral prints can help breathe new life into your wardrobe and home décor for spring and summer. I’m always looking for easy, affordable ways to refresh my style for the changing seasons, so I made a trip to my local Meijer store to shop around.

floral pattern outfit inspiration trendy accessories blogger style

Floral is the print of spring, and Meijer has options ranging from trendy dresses and tops to plush pillows and bedding. I picked up some cute new pieces and love how these fresh floral prints bring such color, romance and whimsy to my wardrobe and home. A flirty dress and floral blanket set the perfect scene for a charming spring picnic in the park! Here’s a look at some of my favorite Meijer picks for celebrating the colorful and fragrant beauty of spring.

A Floral Dress

A floral dress is a spring and summer staple, and Meijer has a large selection in a range of styles and prints. I’d recently heard about their #StyleForEveryBody campaign with offerings in a full range of sizes from S-3X. It is so refreshing to see every size featured on the same rack.

floral pattern outfit inspiration trendy accessories blogger style

Plus-size women know the frustration of seeing a garment they love, rushing over to check for their size and finding it’s either not available or they have to shop in a separate department with an inevitably smaller selection. And when so many of those plus-size departments are stocked with boring neutrals and uninspired basics, the variety of trendy options and floral prints at Meijer is exciting and welcoming.

I tried on a number of styles ranging from embroidered swing dresses to tropical print maxis but fell in love with this faux wrap dress. The print has a romantic Victorian-era feel in shades of blush pink and plum. It’s such a sweet dress in the softest velvety knit fabric.

I layered an ivory cami underneath and was pleased to see that Meijer has layering basics like this in a variety of colors that coordinate with their seasonal styles.

Fresh & Pretty Accessories

Meijer has some super cute sandals with flower embellishments, but I had to have these girly-meets-sporty tennis shoes in floral lace. These tennies are such a great find because they’re practical and casual for a picnic outdoors but still really trendy and cute.

I finished my look with this quilted cross-body bag in rosy pink and personalized it with this macaroon charm. I like that you can mix-and-match their purses and charms to customize your bag and make it your own.

Dreamy Bedding

I also picked up a bedding set in the loveliest watercolor floral. The comforter and pillow cases are two-sided with periwinkle polka dots on one side and a dreamy floral print on the other. It’s the perfect combination of romantic and whimsical, playful and serene.

This plush furry pillow is a fun addition, and it’s a style I can swap between my bedroom and living room décor. Since I like to change up my bedding every few weeks, this comforter will make the most stylish picnic blanket when not in use. The floral print and ruffle trim definitely set the mood for a sweet and romantic afternoon in the park.

I love wearing and decorating with prints, and florals are my absolute favorite. They bring instant romance and freshness, and they’re a simple way to celebrate this beautiful season!

Americana 101: 5 Trendy Ways to Rock Red, White and Blue

Memorial Day is just around the corner (which means only eight hours of work stand between you and a three-day weekend!). Are you as excited as we are?! Whether your plans involve camping, sunbathing or picnics galore, Memorial Day is the perfect holiday to sport your red, white, and blue. Americana-themed outfits are a long-standing summer trend, so we’re sharing our favorite looks to help you refresh your festive wardrobe. The best part about these Memorial Day ensembles? You can rock them again on Fourth of July (and every other day this summer, TBH). Check out our patriotic must-haves below!

Subtle Stripes

To showcase your pride without going overboard, opt for an understated piece like this off-the-shoulder dress. It’s no secret this ruffled frock is adorable on its own, but when paired with a red lip, the Americana theme comes to life! Complement the look with a navy blue bandana, wrapping it around your neck to create a super trendy choker. (If ‘90s-esque fashion isn’t your cup of tea, use the bandana as a headband or hanky instead.) Finally, pull it all together with your go-to white tennies – nothing beats an outfit that’s both cute AND comfy!

Flag Print Kimono

For the foundation of this outfit, stick to the basics: a plain white tee or tank paired with your favorite denim shorts. Capris or skinnies work too if the day’s a little chilly! Opt for minimal accessories and neutral shoes or sandals to allow this kimono to be the star of the ensemble (literally – we love the festive flag print!). Bonus style tip? If you’re headed to the beach or out on a boat, this lightweight piece doubles as a swimsuit cover up.

Nautical Mini-Dress

Another subtly patriotic look comes in the form of this anchor-print dress. This look is perfect for a cookout or Memorial Day brunch (or even an outdoor wedding if you have one coming up!). You can dress the outfit down by wearing flip flops or sneakers, OR dress it up by donning your go-to block heel sandals. Finally, to stay warm (and festive) long after the sun goes down, keep a red or white cardigan on hand to throw over your shoulders.

Graphic Tees

For an adorably casual take on the Americana trend, opt for patriotic graphic tee or tank. We love this racer back style from Meijer, just make sure to don the appropriate undergarments! A lace bralette, sports bra or bandeau would all suffice (your swimsuit top is also a quick, easy option). Pair this top with denim bottoms or patterned soft shorts – as long as the print features red, white or blue, they’ll match (we promise!). Not sure how to style cotton shorts for summer? Check out these tips from blogger Blonde Bedhead.

Patriotic Accessories

The easiest way to make your outfits more festive is to add red, white and blue accessories! We know patchwork purses are all the rage this summer, and bandanas are a staple Memorial Day accessory. Throw in wayfarer- or aviator-style sunglasses and your Americana ensemble will be perfectly complete.

Summer Outfit Inspiration: 4 Casual Dresses to Add to Your Wardrobe

As the spring chill finally gives way to summer warmth, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up their wardrobes for warm weather styles.

This week we’re welcoming Maya of Charmingly Styled to share her four favorite casual dresses for summer and how to style each of the one-piece-wonders!

After waiting months for warmer weather in the Midwest, I can finally say the summer season is upon us! Showers aside, the weather is starting to warm up and I’m excited to see the sun return after months of hibernation. Most of all, I’m happy that it’s officially dress weather, and I’ve been busting out a few of my favorites from last year – as well as adding a few new looks to my closet, too. I recently scooped up a few trendy dresses at my local Meijer store in Chicago, and not only are they super cute, but they’re affordable too! To celebrate the weather, here are a few of my favorite looks for the season at a price that can’t be beat.

Striped for Summer

striped-blue-dress

I’m a big sucker for stripes 365 days of the year, but there’s something about the perfect striped dress for summer that gets me extra excited. I’ve never met a stripe I don’t like, and when I spotted this blue and white nautical number at Meijer, I knew I had to add it to my closet ASAP. It’s perfect for weekends walking around Chicago neighborhoods, or even for more casual days around the office. Paired with a fresh pair of tennis shoes and a statement gold necklace (both from Meijer), I’m ready to tackle my day in the perfect comfy look.

Boho Vibes

This season is all about putting embroidery on everything – and honestly, I’m not mad about it. As a flower child at heart, finding the perfect bohemian dress at a steal was like hitting the jackpot, and I absolutely adore this classic, loose fitting dress for summer traveling and exploring the city. It’s comfy, flattering and looks good with a simple pair of sandals and a delicate gold necklace. It’s important to not go too overboard with a dress that’s all about the little details – you always want to make sure the embroidery steals the show!

Chambray Chic

Chambray is one of those trends that will always be in style, so whenever I find a beautiful, light chambray dress, I can’t help but make a home for it in my closet. I recently found this one at Meijer and loved the flattering cut and the tulip sleeved detailing (one of summer’s hottest dress trends this year!) I paired the look with a chunky rose gold necklace and this beautiful fringe purse I also scored for a steal at Meijer – isn’t it gorgeous?!

Tied in a Knot

This is one of those new-to-me trends that I’ve been loving these days, and dresses and shirts with a little knot are the perfect, casual look for spring and summer. It’s a minor detail, but adding a knot creates a cute cinched waist look with your favorite cotton dresses. I found this striped version at Meijer and knew that I had to have it for summer – especially with the $20 price tag! It’s perfect with metallic flats and my new go-to fringe purse I’m planning to rock all season long.

Have any summer trends you’re living for these days? Please share! We’d also love to know what Meijer summer pieces you’ve scooped up this season so far!

3 Stylish (and Comfy) Alternatives to Your Go-To Pair of Leggings

As spring begins to peek around the corner, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for a new year of style.

This week we’re welcoming Andrea of Blonde Bedhead to share a few stylish, yet comfortable alternatives to your go-to pair of leggings – including joggers, soft shorts and culottes!

I’m guilty of occasionally leaving the house in a pair of leggings and crewneck sweatshirt—comfortable yes, but doesn’t inspire much style. Whether you’re running errands or grabbing dinner with friends, jogger pants, soft shorts and culottes are a few great alternatives to consider for legging-level comfort, but high-level style.

Jogger Style

Joggers are an easy, chic replacement for leggings. They’re just as cozy, but with an athleisure vibe—so I styled this outfit as such. My love for distressed denim also transcends to this pair of joggers because they have knee rips. It gives the jogger pants a bit of an edge, which I always gravitate towards!

I added a crop top, a pair of running shoes and a silky olive green bomber that I also snatched up at Meijer. I love the oatmeal tone of the joggers and olive green tones for spring, just a few neutral shades I’m wearing on repeat so far this season.

Soft Short Style

Now that we’re creeping into summer, high-waisted shorts like these are a great option for hot, humid days. Tuck in a billowy top, add a crop top or wear with a body suit—there really are so many styling choices when it comes to a pair of versatile shorts.

I added a jean jacket and platform oxfords to keep a more casual style. But what I love about these shorts is you could easily add a pair of pumps and leather jacket to style for cocktails!

Culotte Style

Culottes are universally flattering and equally as comfortable as leggings. The pant style can work for any occasion — I regularly rock them for client meetings with a structured top, or for brunch and shopping with friends with an off-the-shoulder shirt (like this!).

The culottes from Meijer come in several colors, but a black pair transitions well from season-to-season, making them easy to re-style! I paired my culottes with this fun take on the off-the-shoulder trend, another great top I scored from Meijer in olive green. It also comes in blush, which was a difficult decision to make, since I’m digging both blush and olive green tones this season!

The Comfiest Summer Clothing Trends to Try Right Now

Beyond the warm temps that summer is known and loved for, the season also brings carefree clothing trends that we’re (always!) obsessed with. The best part about the hottest styles of 2017? They’re insanely cute – and insanely comfortable. We can’t get enough of this year’s soft, summery outfits, so we’re sharing four of our favorites to serve as inspiration throughout the season.

Flowy Shirt + Pants

Gone are the days when pairing a flowy top with wide bottoms was a fashion “don’t” – now, it’s a fashion “please do!” Just be sure to complete the combo with cork wedges vs. flats to give your outfit the length it needs to look totally balanced. We especially love this chic ensemble for summer, as you can easily incorporate other seasonal trends like bold colors, floral print, ruffles and shoulder details. In fact, our favorite part of this combo is how the striking, red culottes accent the dark, flowery pattern. And did you notice these bright turquoise earrings? Small details make such a difference when highlighting shades in a colorful print!

Wide Leg Jumpsuits

From gauchos to palazzo pants, bottoms with a wide, loose silhouette are one of our favorite trends this summer. When you combine this look with the ever-popular jumpsuit, your outfit reaches a whole new level of cute (and comfort!). Plus, this one-piece wonder is extra trendy, thanks to the vibrant embroidery featured around the scoop style neckline. To ensure you don’t take away from those delicate details, skip the pendant or statement necklace and opt for a choker or bare neck instead. The intricate, embroidered design is a statement in itself! Finally, complete the look with a pair of black block heel sandals for a fiercely classic ensemble that’s sure to turn heads.

Soft Tee + Shorts

A basic graphic tee and loose patterned shorts are the perfect combination for a sunny day on the beach. The soft, cottony fabric is breathable (great for high temps) and comfortable (perfect for an afternoon filled with activities!). For an extra summery vibe, knot your tee at the bottom, then balance out the look by choosing high-waisted shorts. We can’t get enough of this boho-inspired pair – the elaborate pattern of the bottoms perfectly complements the simplicity of the top! Finish this ensemble with natural hair, “no makeup” makeup and classic cork sandals (or sneakers!) for an effortlessly casual outfit your friends will envy.

Bodysuit + Shorts

If you’re looking for an ensemble that embodies the athleisure trend to a tee, pair an active-inspired short with an off-the-shoulder bodysuit. We went the monochromatic route with a white top and black bottom, but don’t be afraid to rock your favorite summer shades. Pink and yellow are our go-to colors this season! When it comes to footwear, this outfit could be paired with your gym shoes or basic sandals – both are totally comfy and would look fabulous. Finally, pull your hair into a trendy half top knot, letting your natural hair texture shine in the bottom half of the style.

Hemlines and Heels: How to Style This Spring’s Spotlight on Ankles

As spring begins to peek around the corner, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for a new year of style.

This week, we’re welcoming Lauren from Lake Shore Lady to share how to wear a variety of hemlines and pairs of shoes as she showcases her five favorite looks for spring.

hemlines heels denim pant spring style lauren blogger

Though it might not quite feel like it yet, spring and summer are definitely on their way. As we ease into warmer temps, it’s so fun to play around with different denim hemlines… and maybe even expose our ankles again – gasp! But the absolute best part of spring denim trends is obviously pairing them with cute shoes. Right? Right.

Luckily, Meijer is always there to remind us that you don’t need to spend a crazy amount of money to be fabulously stylish. Yes, it IS possible to have fun with fashion on a budget, and these five looks are total proof. Let’s take a look:

Double Cuffed Jeans + Keds

Who doesn’t like a good pair of Keds?! There’s a reason they’ve been around for so long – they’re classics! Plus, they’re crazy comfortable and perfect for long walks, running errands all day, or even sightseeing. I don’t usually wear sneakers with anything but workout gear, but will always make an exception for these cuties. The key to styling? Go with a cuffed jean to show off the shoe. No boot cut jeans allowed!

Raw Hem Jeans + Mules

This look is so 90s and I love it! The light wash, the frayed hems and, of course, the mules. The only thing missing is a choker! I love that mules and a thicker, block heel are making a comeback. It’s such a sleek yet comfortable trend… and the best way to test it out is with a super affordable pair like these. I love to style them with a trendy raw hem in my jeans, as the messy fray is a perfect counterpoint to the structured mule.

Cropped Jeans + Ballet Flats

Ballet flats can sometimes seem a little blah – but add a crisscross design and I’m on board! Make sure you pair these with a cropped pair of jeans so you can show off that ankle strap. I wore a casual long sleeve tee for this look, but you could totally swap it out for a flirty blouse for a night on the town.

Gaucho Pants + Beachy Sandals

Culottes, palazzo pants, gauchos – whatever you want to call them, they’re back! The soft, flowy style is beach-inspired and has got me dreaming of more days in the sun. Find a pair to cinch at your waist, then tie your tee at the same spot (or wear a crop top!) and finish the look with a fun pair of sunnies and bright, beachy sandals.

Distressed Jeans + Block Heel Sandals

I firmly believe that every girl needs a pair of nude sandals – bonus points if they also have a low, walk-able heel! I’m so glad I found this new block heel pair at Meijer to replace my last go-to sandals (which had seen its fair share of miles). Seriously though, you’ll wear them all the time! They go with anything, especially these distressed jeans and pretty cold shoulder top. Just make sure to cuff your hem to show off that trendy, modern block heel!

What are your favorite pant + shoe combos?!

Trend Alert: Embroidered Tops

As spring begins to peek around the corner, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for a new year of style.

This week, we’re welcoming Tieka from Selective Potential to share her three favorite ways to style embroidered tops for spring.

When you picture a classic boho-inspired wardrobe, you immediately think of embroidered details, right? I’ve been working to nail down my personal aesthetic lately, and boho-inspired, folk styles are definitely what I love most (especially in a casual, girl-next-door kind of way). I was SO delighted to find items that fit this exact vibe at Meijer that I couldn’t wait to share my favorite ways to incorporate the embroidery trend this spring.

Collage 1

Look One

I’m obsessed with this darling black-and-white embroidered top, complete with loose sleeves and a peplum fit. This Massini top barely required any styling, because it’s a statement piece on its own! For this outfit, I paired the shirt with frayed denim jeans and some tawny, suede ankle boots. If you’re feeling a bit chilly, you could add an olive green cardigan, or if you’re in warmer temps, this top would be cute with a pair of denim shorts and cut-out sandals! As for your hair, loose waves go with any sort of boho-inspired look.

Look Two

For my second look, I chose this blush, John Paul Richard top from Meijer. This is honestly my favorite piece of clothing right now — no joke. It’s embroidered, lined and the quality is AMAZING. With this flowy, light-colored style, I chose darker denim with neutral flats, an olive-y brimmed hat and long, dainty jewelry. I could easily see this top being remixed several ways this spring — perhaps next time with a pleated chiffon olive green skirt?

Look Three

For look three, I found this spring-y, pink embroidered top. The Massini shirt is adorable on its own, but since it was a little bit colder (we’re so close to spring!), I paired it with a knit cardigan, dark denim, neutral ankle booties and a dusty blue crossbody bag. I’m excited to style the top several different ways this spring though… with a cute floral skirt, or some frayed white denim and casual tawny sandals.

I hope you enjoyed these different looks featuring tops from Meijer! Are you planning on incorporating embroidered items into your wardrobe this spring?

How would you describe your personal style?

I’ve started to realize that I always pick out black pants and black shirts when dressing for work, and don’t really focus on other styles or colors. My favorite color was navy and – let’s be honest – that’s really only black’s cousin. This year, I’m trying to focus on getting outside of my bubble and looking at trends when shopping. I’ve been experimenting with colors like coral and lime green, but by “experimenting,” I mean one sweater.

Why is fashion important to you?

Your style is the first thing people see when they look at you, so I think wearing your heart on your sleeve (literally!) is a great way to get your personal message across without saying a word. Whether your fashion choices are fun and patterned or sleek and buttoned-up, I believe what you say about yourself using fashion is important. This is especially true as a young professional, as you want to be fun as well as taken seriously.

What motivated you to want to meet Stacy London?

I love my personal styles, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for a few updates and changes. When picking out clothes, I get really concerned about making sure I feel comfortable in the things I wear. And, because I’m a larger size, I want to make sure my clothing choices look the best for my body.

What comes to mind when you think about plus-size shopping and body positivity?

If you really think about the fashion industry as a whole, plus-size is the new average. But even with that fact, so many stores make you shop for plus-size clothing in different sections of the store or even online-only. I love that Meijer is allowing plus-size shoppers to change the narrative of their own style. Now, it doesn’t have to be “I’m going to buy this because it’s available.” Instead, it’s “I’m going to buy this because I love it.”

Why were you looking forward to a day with Stacy London?

I love my solid colors and basics, but I want to experiment more with colors and accessories. Although my go-to black shade is classic, it would be nice to get out of my comfort zone – something I don’t usually do on my own. Hanging out with Stacy and getting her input would force me to try on patterns and colors I would never pick out for myself!

So… How did it go?!

Today was great! I was able to try on a lot of new pieces – some I loved, some I didn’t, but I never would’ve tried them on by myself, so it was overall a really awesome experience.

The best advice Stacy gave you… go!

When discussing my style choices, we also talked a lot about some of the activities I do on a regular basis. Stacy asked, “you’re bold in your life, why are your clothes not bolder?” And she was right, which was such an eye-opening moment! Moving forward, when I go shopping, I’m going to try and reach for pieces outside my comfort zone and push the limits of my own style.

With all your fresh fashion knowledge, what is your new favorite outfit?

This bright color and flowy fabric – that’s perfectly light for spring – is something I’d never normally grab. But actually, I love this color and will look for it much more often now. Before today, I didn’t even own a pair of skinny jeans, so picking them up was actually very exciting. As we were shopping, I didn’t even see many normal, solid basics. Instead, there were a ton of trend items, which is really exciting to see from the Massini brand.

Also, the woman styled my hair using hairspray before and after all the styling, which allowed the look stay longer and was less frizzy throughout the day. Overall, really great tips I can bring to my day-to-day routine!

How did this experience affect your current fashion choices and the way you view your style?

I think a lot of us get busy with our lives and start to feel stuck in many ways – including fashion. The easy thing becomes shopping online or going back to the same store you’ve always tried. But I think I really need to take the time to get out there and try new things on in person – because this color, I would’ve passed it by on the internet. But as it turns out, I received a ton of compliments on the color all day, and that’s something I never would’ve known without simply reaching out and trying something new. That adventurous outlook on fashion will be the biggest message I take away from this whole experience!

Karina Re-Discovers Her Style with Stacy London

How would you describe your personal style?

My style is all about comfort. Since I work in Meijer’s warehouse, I usually dress with the weather: shorts and a tank top in the summer, sweatpants or jeans and a sweater in the winter. But that also translates to my home style: comfort all the way! But if I’m going on a date or out with friends, I might put on a skirt or a flowy top, just to switch things up. I mean, I get tired of wearing jeans and sweatpants all the time!

Why are you looking to change up your look?

Honestly, I just need something a little different and thought this experience would be a good way to find it! I’ve always liked the look of more trendy pieces, but budget-wise, I’m not usually able to afford the more stylish pieces. And, I don’t know, I always come back to what makes me the most comfortable.

What comes to mind when you think about body positivity?

Body positivity… it’s something I’m still working on. I’ve recently gained a little bit of weight, and I’m working on enjoying and living in the body I have. It’s been a journey, but I’m working on it.

What’s your typical shopping routine?

My closet is full of things I’ve had forever, and I usually don’t buy clothes unless I really have to. Mainly, it’s because I can’t find anything I like when I’m out shopping, or only find things I don’t think would look good on me. Really, shopping is just something I don’t do unless I absolutely have to. Over the years, my three boys’ needs – shopping and otherwise – have always come first.

So why were you looking forward to a day with Stacy London?

I’m typically the quiet, shy, behind-the-scenes type of person. I thought this experience would be something new and different, and might help me bust out of my shell. With my boys all grown and gone, I’m a little stuck. I’m not usually the outgoing person who strikes up conversations, but maybe being a little more stylish will give me the confidence I need!

So… how did it go?!

Today was fun! I really enjoyed myself and stepped way out of my box – but I’m OK, I’ve survived, and I think I can try this again! The experience is something I’ll never forget because even though I want to update my style, I’ve also learned that simply being myself is 100% OK.

Karina - Stacy London

How did this experience affect your current fashion choices and the way you view your style?

Stacy taught me not to be afraid of colors and prints, and showed me tons of cute, trendy pieces in Massini. Though there were a few outfits I tried and didn’t love, Stacy and I got to talk about why they worked or didn’t, and it helped me really try new pieces and understand my own style.

What did you learn about your own personal style through this experience?

My favorite look is perfect for a date night out! Though I’m not a big makeup wearer, I think I’ve discovered a lot about my personal style and fashion choices. There were a few things I saw on the rack and would’ve never picked up before. But I tried them on and thought they looked amazing on me! This experience has taught me that going outside of my comfort zone and trying on new things could make for a surprisingly perfect outfit.

Today was an absolute whirlwind that I completely enjoyed. Thank you for choosing me for this experience!

3 Blogger-Approved Ways to Style Shoulder Details

As spring begins to peek around the corner, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for a new year of style.

The weather is (finally!) starting to get warmer, which means spring fashion trends are back and better than ever. Varying shoulder details will be popular in 2017, so this week, we asked three style bloggers to share their favorite versions of the look.

Shoulder Details

Andrea of Blonde Bedhead loves how embroidered shoulder details help her channel her free spirit.

“I can’t get enough of shoulder details lately, whether they’re featured on a top or a dress. They create playful, bohemian vibes that remind me of carefree springs and summers. I especially love the chevron embroidery on this shirt! The look has ‘free spirit’ written all over it – and I’m trying to channel my inner Zen and go with the flow a bit more! I styled the top with high waist ankle jeans, chunky ankle boots and a crochet choker that matched the sleeves’ design.”

Cold Shoulder

Lisa, the blogger behind LMP Collections, says cold shoulder tops are the perfect match for her comfy, bohemian style.

“My go-to spring style could definitely be described as comfortable bohemian with a touch of my own flare! Cold shoulder tops are a fun addition to any outfit – I styled mine tied at the waist and paired with casual, printed bottoms. I knotted the shirt at the hem to create separation from the wide leg pants; then topped off the look by adding a brown leather bag and my signature accessory, round sunglasses!”

Off-the-Shoulder

Sam of Samantha Elizabeth is drawn to off-the-shoulder tops that are both fun and flattering.

“With spring right around the corner, I’ve had the urge to update my wardrobe! I’m drawn to items that are flattering and fitting for this phase of life as a new mom, so lately, off-the-shoulder tops have been catching my eye. They are flirty, fun and show skin in just the right place…making me feel comfortable and confident at the same time. This particular top from Meijer has ¾ sleeves, which I love, and the tie detail at the elbow adds something unique. The neckline can be worn completely off the shoulder for a more dramatic look (or a night out), or up and more on top of the shoulder for daytime activities!”
