Beauty Tutorial: The Best Products for Creating Perfect Eyebrows

As the summer sun begins to heat up, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up their wardrobes for warm weather styles.

This week we’re welcoming Meghan of Lincoln Park Minute to share her favorite products and makeup tips on how to create perfect eyebrows for summer.

Just as a few accessories can perfectly finish off your outfit, your eyebrows often complete your beauty look. They truly frame your face and I personally hate even leaving the house without mine done! Taking care of your eyebrows and manicuring them can often be overwhelming so today, I’m excited to share all that I know about how to do eyebrows and hope it may help you!

Before you tackle transforming your eyebrows, you’ll want to be sure you’re stocked up on all of the essentials. During a recent trip to Meijer, I picked up some of my eyebrow makeup favorites. I love that they have everything I need, including brow powder, wax, a pencil, a crayon, a brush, and colored gel. Meijer truly is a one-stop shop!

My eyebrow look starts with a pencil or crayon to fill in bare areas – then, I use a definer to make my brows look precisely shaped. To finish the look, I use a gel to lock them in place for long-lasting perfection!

Curious how to shape your eyebrows? To start, you’ll want to brush your eyebrows up and away and analyze what shaping they need. Take note of what areas are particularly sparse. To do this, I love using this my e.l.f. brow duo brush from Meijer because it has both a spoolie brush and an angled end great for applying brow powders and pomades.

As a guideline, your eyebrows should start parallel to the inner corner of your eye and end parallel to the outer corner of your eye. Where they arch is up to you, but mine naturally arch just about ¾ of the way in. If you have rogue hairs, quickly pluck them with a pair of tweezers.

Once you know the shape you want your brows to take, you can begin giving your eyebrows some more shape with either a brow pencil or crayon. I prefer to use a pencil to create natural hair like strokes, but if you want bold, statement-making brows, a brow crayon is the easy choice.

My L’Oreal Brow Stylist Definer is my ultimate favorite brow product found at Meijer. It’s precise, creamy, and blendable.  The ultra-fine pencil tip is a perfect tool for recreating tiny brow hair and precisely drawing and shaping brows for a well-defined look.

If you prefer a crayon, I’m a big fan of the Revlon ColorStay Brow Crayon (such cute packaging too!). After you create shape, brush through your eyebrows with a spoolie brush to soften the color you just laid down.

To fill in any remaining bare areas, I recommend using a brow powder like NYX Eyebrow Cake Powder. This one is so perfect to travel with since it’s small. It even includes two colors, a clear brow wax, a spoolie brush, and an angled brush. Similar to the brow pencil, you’ll want to try to create short, hair like strokes.

The idea is to create a natural eyebrow look, as if they’re your brows but better. Try to avoid uneven and harsh lines, but if you do run into this problem, just remember to brush through them!

Satisfied with the final product? Finish it all off with a colored brow gel like Maybelline New York Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara. This sets your brows and locks them into place so they stay put all day or night.

For a really natural look, I like to brush up the start of my eyebrows with my finger and make them look a little bit bushy. To keep the hairs this way, I use Wet n Wild Color Icon Brow Shaper, which is a clear brow wax pencil.

Voila! My everyday eyebrow look is complete after just these few simple steps and perfect products. Show off your summer brow look using #MeijerStyle to share your style.

The Essential 4 Week Wedding Countdown

As the summer sun begins to heat up, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up their wardrobes for warm weather styles.

This week we’re welcoming Jess of The Golden Girl to share exactly what you need to do to prepare for an upcoming wedding – whether you’re the bride or a guest! – with a four week prep countdown covering everything from the perfect skin routine to picking out necessary undergarments.

So, you’re tying the knot this year? Congratulations! As a fellow bride-to-be, I can honestly say that being engaged has been one of the most exciting experiences in life thus far! However, it has also been one of the most stressful times as well.

The biggest piece advice I can give as your wedding date nears? Make a plan!

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

Of course, you’ve already got the flowers, the dress and the décor taken care of. But what about the little personal details – the steps necessary to get glowing skin, shiny hair, that sun-kissed glow, and more? The good news is, it’s not overly complicated! All it takes is a little planning ahead, and a few key products from Meijer.

Follow this four week countdown plan, and you’ll be smooth sailing!

Four Weeks Out: Glowing Skin Routine

Why start with skin? Because you’ll want to allow as much time for it to soak up the benefits of your new skincare routine! Keep it simple with a few key products to brighten, smooth and moisturize, and you’ll have a beautiful, healthy glow on your big day!

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

Start with a detoxifying and brightening face wash.

As you already know, the struggle to manage wedding stress is real, which can lead to a dull, uneven complexion. To combat this, I love using this L’Oreal clay cleanser, which turns into a luxurious mousse as you rub it into your skin. It’s comprised of charcoal – which is a magnet for oil and toxins – and, with regular use, leaves you with a much brighter, even complexion.

Clear pores.

I’ve used these strips from Biore for years, but I love them even more now that they’ve come out with a charcoal version! As mentioned above, charcoal is one of the most effective ingredients in ridding your pores of toxins and impurities, and these strips are essential for clearing pores! Plus, they reduce oil by up to 3X, which is key to making your makeup last on your big day! Apply one to wet skin after washing your face once per week.

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

Hydrate, balance and minimize pores with a mask.

Sheet masks are everywhere right now, for good reason, and this sheet mask from L’Oreal does not disappoint. It packs so many powerful benefits into one little 10 minute mask session! Another added benefit of sheet masks: you have to lie down to apply them. So you can think of it as a small moment of required relaxation.

diffuser in bathroom

Turn on your essential oil diffuser for an added treat as you let your mask do its magic! Afterword, your skin is super hydrated, your pores are minimized and your complexion is buttery smooth, allowing for a much smoother makeup application! Do this at least once per week.

Other tips: Remember, you are what you eat! Munch on as many dark, leafy greens as you can, as well as berries and grapes – all are chock full of vitamins and antioxidants that will make your skin glow from within! Meijer has an awesome selection of organic produce to choose from to make grocery shopping before your big day a lot easier.

Three Weeks Out: Strong, Shiny Hair

Another unfortunate side effect of wedding stress? Dull hair. Yikes! Three weeks out, start applying a hair mask after you shampoo. I love Garnier’s “Whole Blends” masks, which target different problem areas depending on your individual needs. My hair tends to be on the dry side, so I chose the Hydrating Blends Mask with Coconut Water and Vanilla Milk. The entire line is made of natural ingredients without harmful parabens that are found in a lot of other hair products!

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

To apply, shampoo your hair right away when you get in the shower, then follow with the mask. If you can, apply a shower cap over the top and let the hot shower steam amplify the benefits of the mask. Leave on for at least three minutes, but preferably longer. Rinse right before you get out, and style as usual.

Two Weeks Out: The Right Accessories

As your wedding nears closer, it’s time to start thinking about a few different accessories you’ll need to stock up on to prepare for the big day!

The “under” accessories

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

You’ve been thinking about the dress for months, but what about what you’re wearing under the dress? With so many backless and strapless dress styles now, it can be tough to find the right bra!

I have two favorites, both made by a brand called “Lingerie Solutions” which can be found in Meijer’s lingerie department. There are individual “adhesive bra” cups which are the best “barely there” solution. I also love the “Shantina Lite” molded adhesive cups, that will also give you a lot of “cinch” and “oomph” if you so please! The bra is also washable and reusable, so you’ll get a ton of wear out of it!

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

For underwear, go with something comfortable and nude colored, so you can ensure there won’t be any show through your white dress! Meijer has quite a few options, like this thong by Simple Pleasures – and a ton of shape wear too, if that’s more your style!

Hair + makeup accessories

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

Be prepared for hair and makeup mishaps and pack your MOH’s purse or makeup bag with extra bobby pins and hair ties (I love the Goody’s kind!) There will inevitably be hair snafus on the dance floor, and if you plan ahead, you can fix them in only a few seconds! (Because not jumping to “Shout” just because you’re afraid of your hair falling out would be an utter travesty).

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

I also love ELF’s duo lip primer and plumping stick, to ensure your lipstick stays on all night!

One Week Out: Polished Hands + Feet

Eeek! 7 days away! Time to start polishing those hands and feet!

By now, hopefully everything is planned out to a T, and you can really start to sit back and relax!

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

There’s no better way to do that than soaking in a warm bath and applying a luxurious salt scrub like Tree Hut’s Shea Sugar Scrub. Whole sugar grains will make your skin insanely smooth (especially the problem areas, like your feet!) and it’s made with Shea Nut Oil to lock in moisture. Plus, it’s made with all-natural extracts and is also paraben-free!

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

After applying the scrub, I like to rinse off and follow up with Jergens Natural Glow Firming lotion! It only takes a few days to start seeing a nice, natural-looking hint of glow. If you don’t want to opt for a spray tan on your big day, this is a really great natural-looking and budget-friendly way to get some color.

meijer style wedding prep countdown beauty skincare hair makeup accessories bridesmaid bride

For a great DIY pedicure and manicure, apply Cutex Moisture Rich foot cream to feet and paint nails with a pretty ballet pink color, which is the perfect neutral for your nuptials! My favorite is Essie’s Gel Couture no-chip nail polish in Fairy Tailor. It’s by far the longest lasting nail polish I’ve ever used, so you won’t have to worry about chipping as you’re stepping into your dress!

That’s it! Congratulations! You are officially ready for your big day!

Self-Tanner 101: How to Get a Streak-Free Faux Glow

As the summer sun begins to heat up, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up their wardrobes for warm weather styles.

This week we’re welcoming Lisa of LMP Collections to review all the top sunless tanning options and find the ideal product for the perfect faux glow.

Summer is here are hotter than ever! As much as I’d love to spend all my time outside during the sunny days, I just don’t have the free time during the weeks. There is nothing that makes me feel more confident in the summer while wearing dresses and swimsuits than having a nice tan to pair with them. I try to take advantage of the natural Vitamin D whenever I have the chance. Lately, however, I’ve been testing out some self-tanners from Meijer to give my skin that extra glow (and avoid some of the sun’s harmful rays).

I’ve tried out five different self-tanners (three brands) and am so excited to share with you all my honest and truthful opinion on each. Since I have more sensitive skin, I made it my goal to find a self-tanner that a) doesn’t make me orange, (b) is gentle on my skin, and (c) looks natural (no streaks or blotchiness). Below I breakdown each product and let you all know my personal experience with them, as well as which one of these five I will be re-purchasing again and again!

Jergens

When I was young, I remember seeing my older sister use Jergens. While shopping at Meijer, I went ahead and purchased these first, knowing it was a familiar brand.

When testing them out, I started with the lotion because who doesn’t want to “reduce the appearance of cellulite in as little as 7 days”!? That definitely was the selling factor for me. After being pretty excited to try this one, I made the mistake of using this lotion not too long after shaving my legs. Although it did happen to irritate my skin, the irritation went away after a few hours.

As for the foam version, a little goes a long way. I felt this one dries more saturated and works quicker than the squeeze bottle, so I would definitely use the foam again. They both smell amazing, too!

sunless self tanner tan tanning blogger approved summer jergens neutrogena l'oreal lotion

Orange? These definitely did not make me orange – which I liked! Both do take a few days to see a noticeable color transformation, but that’s nice because you can control your color at a slower rate – love.

Gentle? Honestly, I would say these ones were the most irritating on my sensitive skin. However, my arms felt much more gentle than my legs – so just watch recently-shaved skin!

Natural? Overall, I would say both of these were very natural-looking.

sunless self tanner tan tanning blogger approved summer jergens neutrogena l'oreal lotion

L’Oreal

Now this stuff is summer in a bottle! One of my friends recommended a try out L’Oreal for a darker summer glow, and she was not kidding around. The lotion is a rich brown color, and you can definitely see major results in less than 24 hours. Initially, this one scared me a bit since the lotion is so dark, but it goes on pretty smooth and even.

Of all the options, L’Oreal was my least favorite smell – not bad by all means, it’s just that the other four are much more appealing. Lastly, the L’Oreal tanner has a noticeable shimmer to it, so this would probably be the best fit for specific occasions or a night out with the girls.

sunless self tanner tan tanning blogger approved summer jergens neutrogena l'oreal lotion

Orange? I would not say this one gives off an “orange” tint but it is definitely the most saturated of the bunch.

Gentle? Surprising yes! I wasn’t sure that would be true because of the shimmer, but overall this was very gentle.

Natural? Yes! Like the others, apply this one as evenly as possible and you won’t see any streaks.

sunless self tanner tan tanning blogger approved summer jergens neutrogena l'oreal lotion

Neutrogena

And here we have it, my favorite brand out of the three! I was incredibly impressed with these products, and my absolute favorite was the spray bottle version.

sunless self tanner tan tanning blogger approved summer jergens neutrogena l'oreal lotion

Neutrogena is my overall pick because of how gentle it felt on my skin. I didn’t once feel any irritation and could see glowy, natural-looking results in less than 24 hours. The only reason I liked the spray version better is simply because it’s a bit easier to apply. But though it sprays pretty evenly, I would still recommend rubbing everything in just to be safe. I also definitely recommend spraying this in a well-ventilated area because, since it’s a spray, it tends to travel.

sunless self tanner tan tanning blogger approved summer jergens neutrogena l'oreal lotion

Orange? None whatsoever.

Natural? YES YES YES! I was so impressed and can’t wait to continue using this product.

Gentle? Definitely. I always know it’s a product for me when it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. And I feel like Neutrogena has always been known as a gentler brand!

sunless self tanner tan tanning blogger approved summer jergens neutrogena l'oreal lotion

No matter which self-tanner you go with, some things will always apply. So here are my top “must-do” tips!

  • Rub in the product as evenly as possible
  • After applying, wear baggy clothing until lotion, foam or spray is completely soaked in and dry
  • Ask someone to help do your back if it’s hard to reach – you’d hate to leave an untouched spot!
  • Apply once a day for a few days (or for special occasions) for an even, glowy look

The Best Bold Makeup Tutorial for Summer

As the spring chill finally gives way to summer warmth, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up their wardrobes for warm weather styles.

This week we’re welcoming JoElla to walk us through a must-try bold beauty tutorial for summer with all the products you need – from skincare to falsies and everything in between.

textured hair style products tutorial blogger beauty

With the weather getting warmer and warmer, I’ve been testing out some new skincare and beauty products – both to prep my skin for the summer sun and get my makeup on lock. For Meijer Style, I’ve put together a full tutorial on how to prep your summer look from the inside out, so read on to check out my favorite beauty picks and tricks!

I’ve recently fallen in love with the Aveeno Active Naturals Daily Moisturizing Body Wash.  When I was in the aisle about a month ago looking for a new body wash and smelling all the amazing scents (like we all love to do, right?!) I came across this one. I know that Aveeno is a trusted brand with dermatologists, so I decided to pick it up off the shelf and give it a smell.

Honestly, I didn’t expect much because I knew it was time to stop concentrating on the smell and start caring more about the care of my skin in the shower. But when I opened the lid I was blown away! The vanilla and oats flavor is so soft and creamy, and it truly excited my senses!

bold beauty makeup tutorial blogger style textured hair

Now that I’m a month in, this body wash has CHANGED MY LIFE! As women, we know yogurt is amazing for the balance of my bodies – why not skin, too? I have been so excited for my shower time lately because, after a long day, the smell of this creamy body wash on my skin is enough to melt the day away.  And after drying off, this body wash hasn’t stripped my skin of moisture, but instead cleansed it and put even more back in. I love it!

bold beauty makeup tutorial blogger style textured hair

I’ve also decided to go ahead and pair it with a good lotion.  I want to have great skin this summer after recovering from all the winter damage – and let my pretty chocolate show through and look alive! – so I paired my body wash with this Aveeno Positively Nourishing lotion as well.

bold beauty makeup tutorial blogger style textured hair

The scent I love is lavender + chamomile, and it is so sweet and calming!  Lavender is great for people who may have anxiety to help them relax.  This lotion is so nourishing and keeps me moisturized, smelling beautiful and feeling buttery soft all day long.  This is going to be a trusted friend this summer to keep my feet looking right in-between pedicures!  The great thing about this lotion is it allows your skin steal the show – whether it’s a milky, tan or chocolaty shade. It’s not greasy or heavy, and it brings out the beautiful color that you have!

There are a variety of combination products I used to create my look today. Many of them are NYX brand, along with Jewels by CoverGirl eye palette.

After prepping my eyes, I used NYX HD Concealer in Tan – which is about two shades lighter than my foundation – to create a great highlight affect. This concealer blends perfectly for coverage, as well as evenly to highlight the entire face.

Next, while the concealer is still damp, I powder my entire face with NYX Mineral- Set it Don’t Fret it- Matte Mineralizing Powder.  I use this to Set my concealer and “bake”.

For my eyeshadow, the Jewels by CoverGirl palette is great for those bold, fun summer looks and can be used in combination for highlighting the brow bone and the inner corner eyes, as well as smoking out a crease.

Moving onto the lips, I wanted to choose a color that would keep me flowing with the same hot pink theme as my nails! I love to outline my lips with something similar to the color I’m using or a little darker for a more defined look, which makes my lips pop. For this look, I went with NYX Slim Lip Liner in Bloom.

bold beauty makeup tutorial blogger style textured hair

As for lipstick, I went with NYX Liquid Suede in Pink Lust.  NYX Suede is a fave line of mine, since it’s a product where a little goes a long way!  I love the buttery feeling it has on my lips (keeping them moisturized), even as a matte product! I didn’t have to re-apply this lip color at all!

bold beauty makeup tutorial blogger style textured hair

Once done with the full lip, I used NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Sydney on the center of my lips to give a two tone-highlighting effect.

bold beauty makeup tutorial blogger style textured hair

I’ve always been a falsies girl, and from the day I learned how to put lashes on, I’ve never stopped! I just love how lashes just completely switch up your whole face game. Even if you just had a pair of lashes on and no other makeup, you would have a finished look!

bold beauty makeup tutorial blogger style textured hair

I have tried so many different lash brands over the last few years but finally settled on my fave: Ardell! They have such a variety, but the ones I usually stick with are their Ardell Double Lash line. I feel like they go with my makeup style perfectly and give me that extra level of flirtiness for my look! If you wanted to calm the look down with something more natural, you can’t go wrong with their Wispies line, which still offers that flirty look but is a bit more subtle.

bold beauty makeup tutorial blogger style textured hair

Duo Glue is perfect for lashes that stay on all day and come off easy at night without damaging your natural lashes. They come in three different kinds: White, Clear and Black. I love the black shade because it because it blends perfectly with my black eyeliner.

bold beauty makeup tutorial blogger style textured hair

Now that lashes are on and makeup is complete, bring a little life back to your face – as well as some freeze – with the NYX Matte Finishing Spray! Lightly saturate your face in the mist and let it dry. Finito! You are ready to go.

The white shade is Blanc by Essie, which can also be used as a base coat if you want other colors to pop even brighter on their own. The pink shade I went with is Secret Story by Essie, which is totally sink-your-toes-in-the-sand-worthy. It’s perfect for that summer vacation in Miami, or a lighthouse in Rhode Island, or even for that getaway weekend in Vegas. This color is great for when you’re feeling extra girly and are just ready to shake it!”

“I have what I consider to be salon-dependent hair. It’s painfully thick, coarse and color-treated. And if that wasn’t high maintenance enough, I recently got bangs. Not the wispy push them to the side, pin them back if you get tired of them kind. Real honest-to-goodness blunt bangs.

I’m still trying really hard to accept my new fringe lifestyle, but will resist giving them up and growing them out. The temptation is strong, so I just keep telling myself that they’re a fresh new look for spring and are super flattering on my face.

blogger beauty makeup summer style product hair

Although I have “salon-dependent hair,” I don’t often have a “salon-friendly” product budget, and that’s a big deal. Because I invest a lot of time and money into the maintenance of my locks, finding products at affordable prices that protect that investment is my number one priority, and I’m going to share with you my top three must-haves to make that happen.

Confession: I only wash my hair twice a week. My hair is extremely thick and color-treated and my scalp is dry, so I am looking for a product that not only prevents fading, but keeps my scalp flake-free and any oil at bay. I am currently obsessed with OGX Treetree Mint Shampoo and Conditioner. This is a sulfate-free product line, which keeps my color intact, and the tea tree oil tingles my scalp, keeps it healthy and gets rid of any of that pesky dry scalp flaking that many of us have, but no one wants to talk about.

blogger beauty makeup summer style product hair

I was introduced to It’s A 10 by my hair stylist, and I’ve never looked back. I have broken many a wide tooth comb trying to get my wet hair brushed out, but It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Conditioner has solved that problem completely. I simply spritz my hair after a towel dry, and it makes my hair manageable, as well as ultra-silky and shiny when it dries.

blogger beauty makeup summer style product hair

So about those bangs. While I may be perfectly okay washing my hair a few times a week, my bangs did not get the memo. Because they sit on my forehead, they are the first spot to get oily, requiring more than bi-weekly washing. That is, until I embraced dry shampoo.

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Dry Shampoo is a miracle and a mandatory part of my morning routine, especially as we head into warmer temperatures. I wake up, spray my bangs at the root, then go about my beauty prep as the dry shampoo gets to work soaking up any oil. Then, before I leave for the morning, I give my bangs a quick brush, diffusing the powder, and my bangs are dry, clean and texturized. I live to rock fringe another day.”

When it comes to using products on my natural hair, Cantu is a brand that I trust and love.  When cleansing my hair, I use the Cantu Complete Conditioning Co-Wash and Cantu Repair Deep Conditioner for my regimen.  The co-wash is great for cleansing the scalp and hair follicles to get your past product out of there.  It doesn’t lather, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t working because co-washing is safer and better for the hair anyway. This creamy product actually includes a whopping 15+ natural butters and oils – you can’t beat that! The best part of it is that it leaves your hair feeling clean and full of moisture. This is the first step in helping my curls to pop when I want to wear my natural hair, or even if I’m prepping it for a protective style.

I love to follow the co-wash with Cantu’s leave-in conditioning repair cream!  This product helps to lock in moisture for the entire Queen treatment for those luscious curls, and it keeps them healthy, shiny and strong.

It’s amazing when you can find different uses for products that were meant for one purpose. I love using Got2B Glued in order to keep my lace-front wigs in place! It’s super safe for my hair line, and lays my natural edges perfectly. Simply use a toothbrush to apply!

But keep in mind: a little goes a long way!  Just a little bit for a seamless look, and you don’t have to worry about your wig moving all day!  Depending on how you wrap your hair at night you can get this product to last for a few days.

Facial Must-Have: Olay ProX Microdermabrasion and Cleaning System
This was the first time I had ever tried any skincare technology before. The system is easy to use, has three speeds, and Olay even provides a suggested schedule of use to make the most of the different attachments and cleansers. I was a little worried it wouldn’t be gentle enough on my skin, but I read through the directions and was pleasantly surprised at how gentle the brush and foam heads were. They give a great tip to apply minimal pressure and move the attachments around in gentle circles. My skin always feels so smooth after using it.

Facial Must-Have: Neutrogena Light Therapy Acne Treatment Mask
This year it seems that technology is everything. Mobile tech, wearable tech and now skincare tech! Neutrogena’s Light Therapy Acne Mask is my newest skincare obsession. It has blue and red lights that targets bacteria and reduces any inflammation. Match made in heaven!

Facial Must-Have: Yes to Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Mud Mask
I don’t care what anyone says; face masks are the bomb. Although using one face mask isn’t going to cure your acne instantly, I think investing in a few different options and making it into a weekly habit can make a difference. My favorite is the Detoxifying Charcoal Mud Mask by Yes to Tomatoes. (Yes to Avocado face wipes are my all time favorite btw.) This mask is made to fight acne.

Facial Must-Have: L’Oreal Pure-Clay Mask, Detox & Brighten
I’m also always looking for ways to brighten and detoxify my skin from the makeup I wear every day. On Fridays, I use the L’Oreal Detox & Brighten Clay Mask ($7.99 at Meijer) to remove the stressful week and its toll on my skin. I love, love, love clay masks, but I especially love this one because it combines charcoal and three different kinds of pure clay to tighten my skin and remove pesky blackheads. I leave the mask on for 15 minutes before I go to bed, and then I rinse it off with warm water and moisturize.

Facial Must-Have: Freeman Avocado & Oatmeal Clay Mask
To keep me refreshed all week, this Clay & Avocado mask has been placed prominently by my sink. On hand and ready to go when I have ten free minutes and need a little R&R. I love throwing these masks on when I’m picking up stuff around my house or putting away laundry. It’s an easy way to make a 10-minute chore into something a little bit better. Basically, anything to make to-do’s a little more manageable.

2 Easy (and Adorable!) Ways to Style Medium-Length Hair for Spring

As spring begins to peek around the corner, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for a new year of style.

This week we’re welcoming Melissa from The Bee’s Knees to share two must-try ways to style medium-length hair, from an everyday look to a boho-inspired updo!

Styling a bob or “lob” (long bob) is super easy and fun – plus, it’s a great length for when spring or summertime rolls around. The temps get higher, your hair gets shorter! If you’re looking for a change, trying to cool off for the season, or are just a busy mom like me who likes low-maintenance style, you might want to try a bob or “lob” haircut.

My hair has grown out some (so I’m definitely in the “lob” stage), but don’t worry! The practical styles I’m sharing today work great with long OR short bobs. But before we get into my favorite medium-length looks, take a peek at my must-have styling products for spring:

Right now, I’m loving Revlon’s 1¼ inch barrel curling iron. It creates large, loose and luxurious curls that look perfectly laidback! If you need a little texture to achieve this beach-ready ‘do, L’Oreal Air Dry It Wave Swept Spray is great for hot summer styling. I’ve also been using OGX Argan Oil of Morocco, Goody scallop-cut headbands and L’Oreal Lock It hairspray – we’ll need all of these tools for the styles below, so stay tuned. Also pictured above is my favorite hairbrush of all time – the Wet Brush! This amazing product is available at Meijer and works so well for fine OR coarse hair. No tugging or pulling involved!

Now that you know which products you need to succeed, here are my two easy, adorable styles for short hair.

CASUAL, EVERYDAY CURLS

This is my everyday, fool-proof, easy-breezy style. I love it because if you have semi-fine hair (like me) that grabs curl really well, sometimes the curls will last for days! That means less heat and less damage to the hair. I am a firm believer in dry shampoo, which I’ll talk about later, and that is my go-to for fresh hair in a pinch – always!

Step 1: First, you’ll want to start with freshly washed and blow-dried hair.

Step 2: Then, apply this OGX Argan Oil of Morocco (about a dime size) evenly over your strands.

Step 3: Use a Revlon 1¼ inch barrel curling iron to style your whole head, making sure the ringlets twist away from your face. If you’re not totally sure how to do this, the hair should curl over top of the iron, not underneath.

When you’re finished, the curls will appear fairly tight, but don’t brush them out until you’ve styled your entire head.

Step 4: Now, run your fingers through your hair to gently pull and loosen the curls.

Step 5: Mist a fine coat of hairspray all over your locks, then voila! You’re done! Big, beautiful, loose curls in a snap.

BOHO-INSPIRED UPDO

Alright, now let’s talk updos! This is one of my favorite ways to wear my hair up. It’s easy and has a little ‘bohemian’ flair to it. I picked up a cute pack of Goody headbands at Meijer and worked them into this style!

Step 1: First, you’ll want to start with hair that’s a few days dirty. I know that sounds weird, but really, it’s true. Any hairstylist will tell you that updos work far better on hair that’s got some day 3 or 4 texture to it.

If you really want to wear your hair up the first or second day after washing it, try using dry shampoo to add some texture to your hair. I love ‘Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo!’

Step 2: Next, add the headband and pull a chunk of your bangs forward. Make sure you get a big enough section!

Step 3: Pull your hair into a tight ponytail.

Step 4: Wrap your strands around the elastic so your pony becomes a bun, and then secure it with Goody bobby pins.

Step 5: Grab the front section of hair and start braiding it until you reach the end. Secure it temporarily with a ponytail holder if you need to, then go through the braid and grab at sections to loosen it a bit.

Step 6: Finally, remove the ponytail holder from your bangs (if you used one), then take the braid and wrap it up and around the back of your bun. Secure it into the base of the style with more Goody bobby pins, then finish with some L’Oreal Lock It hairspray.

That’s it! Short hair-styling is so fun and easy! I hope you’ll give these looks a try sometime.

Beauty Must-Have: L’Oreal® Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray

My day job is a teacher and my schedule is different every day. I rarely have time to do any touch-up after lunch. Before I used this product, my face was already quite oily by 1 p.m. and by the time I left work, my face seriously felt like a piece of oily pizza. After using this, I was so happy to notice that my makeup can literally last from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

There’s something about slathering on a clay face mask at night that feels relaxing. It was like mini-spa sessions in my bathroom during the week. The box recommends using about three times each week. What I did was put on my face mask, then wait 10-15 minutes before hopping in the shower to rinse everything away.

While my hair is still a little damp, I use a few spritzes of the L’Oreal Air Dry It Wave Swept Spray – I use this like a texturizing spray before I style it. My favorite tip is to lift up the crown section of my hair and spray a few spritzes right at the root and let it dry for a little extra volume while I’m using a hot hair tool.

I’ve been such a Dove fan lately! I love the foam and the pump on the shower foam. I use their Beauty Bar too because the smell is reminiscent of my grandmother’s bathroom. I’ve also finally found a fresh, feminine, and effective alternative to Head & Shoulders with Dove Dandruff Shampoo. I use this shampoo every other wash and I love the way it smells.

Beauty Must-Haves: L’Oreal® Extraordinary Clay Dry Shampoo and Clay Mask

Ok, for real, I tried the clay mask on my hair (remember that I only wash my hair a couple of times a week) and it made my hair feel like butter.  Cuts through the oil and takes five minutes before you shower.  Then, throughout the week, I’ve been using the dry shampoo which is a total lifesaver.  I keep dry oil and dry shampoo in every single room/bag/space of my life.

I’ve been using this palette to provide the finishing touches to my makeup routine. It provides that extra boost to a finished look! This lip color is perfect for spring! The color in the photos is “Spicy Blush” and it’s fantastic! I highly recommend it. And what I love about this foundation is that you can build it up and it lasts all day. If I want a minimal spring look, I’ll dab this the foundation under my eyes and along my t-zone and blend outwards. Do my eye makeup and then add the finishing touches with the other two items above.

Beauty Must-Haves: Nature’s Bounty Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies and Complete Protein & Vitamin Shake Mix

Be very careful with health items like vitamins and shake mixes. When they expire, they don’t do your body any good at all. Toss all your old stuff and consider Nature’s Bounty Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies and Complete Protein & Vitamin Shake Mix. The gummies are a total candy treat so you won’t forget them… and you will end up with strong, shiny hair, glowy skin, and super strong nails. (Remember eating gelatin like crazy to get strong nails??  Now you can just eat gummies!) The Complete Protein Shake is really delicious, and I love that it has flaxseed and is low in sugar.

Spring Break’s Must-Have Fashion and Beauty Essentials

As spring begins to peek around the corner, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From fashion tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for a new year of style.

This week, we’re welcoming Nicole from Class to Closet to share her must-have products and styles for the perfect spring break vacation.

It’s that time of year again! Spring break is a glorious week that allows us to escape to a tropical destination (and save ourselves from the frigid temps of home). I don’t know about you, but I live in Ohio and it gets very cold here in the winter. Every year, I look forward to taking a trip and getting away from the chill, so today I’m sharing my travel essentials that make for a carefree spring break – without breaking the bank!

spring break luggage

The first go-to is my favorite sun protection combo: a high-quality sunscreen + dry oil. I’ll use the sunscreen on the places where I tend to burn, like my face and chest, but will apply the dry oil on the rest of my body to prep for a tan.

summer skincare products

I love Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport sunscreen because it stays on, even if I’m sweating or decide to get into the water! As far as oils go, Banana Boat Dry Oil with SPF 8 has amazing multitasking capabilities – with infused argan oil, it both moisturizes and tans.

bikini and swimsuit cover

My next essentials are a super cute swimsuit cover-up and an adorable printed bikini. I found this Wave Zone tunic at Meijer and fell in love! First off, the color is on point – a solid teal will accentuate your tan, plus it matches any (and every) shade of swimsuit. Second, it has the most beautiful crochet detailing, which makes it stand out from other simple styles. Finally, I absolutely fell in love with the neckline – it’s super flattering. I can’t wait to sport this cover-up at the beach!

When it’s time to take off the cover-up and soak up some sun, I’ll be rocking this Inmocean bikini. The high neckline is super trendy, and the floral print is perfect for a spring vacation.

When the day is done, I can transition my beachy outfit from day to night with a pair of chunky, cut-out Massini sandals. The block heel is my favorite shoe trend for spring, and I love that they go with my bikini AND a classy dinner outfit. These sandals are a staple transition piece this season!

summer skin and hair products

As far as beach beauty, I absolutely have to have a sea salt spray and the perfect shade of nail polish. Who doesn’t love the loose waves they get from being in the ocean? I love spraying Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Spray in my hair before going out to dinner, in order to really bring out my natural waves. As far as nail style, Essie’s “Bahama Momma” is the perfect fuchsia color to bring out your new-found tan!

While I’m lying out on the beach, my personal favorite thing to do is read. Before I leave for a trip, I love picking up a summer-inspired book to bring along. This year I picked up “The Vacationers” by Emma Straub and cannot wait to read it!

summer active wear

When it comes to the actual traveling portion of your spring break trip, a cozy-yet-chic outfit is the way to go. This RBX oversized grey sweatshirt is incredibly comfortable, but I still feel put together while wearing it out and about. I think the plain grey top goes super well with these RBX printed army green leggings, which are totally on trend and beautifully feminine.

To complete the casual outfit, oversized Massini sunglasses pull everything together, while also covering up my makeup-less face. And the frame is perfect for transitioning from airport to beach!

spring break makeup bag

As soon as I land in my dream destination, I always refresh my skin and makeup to start the trip off on the right foot. At Meijer, I picked up this super cute London Soho New York makeup bag to hold all my touch-up essentials.  After spending hours in the sky, my skin needs some TLC right when I arrive. I like to pop on a Freeman face mask to truly freshen up my skin, as it cleanses and hydrates at the same time!

Speaking of freshening up, I also always keep a safety stick of deodorant in my bag for quick application. Secret deodorant in Summerberry is a perfectly fresh scent for spring break!

To finish up my refreshed look, I always carry a girl’s best friends: quality mascara and a summer lip color. This Maybelline mascara is one of my favorites because it’s easy to apply and doesn’t get clumpy. Finally, this NYX lip butter gloss in Peaches and Cream – a beautiful hot pink – is the perfect way to finish up my look, while keeping my lips looking lovely and moisturized all day!

How to Boost Your Mood with Aromatherapy

As winter’s chill sets in, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From style tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for winter weather.

This week, we’re welcoming Jess of The Golden Girl to share the basics of using Aromatherapy – from the must-have oils to the multitude of different uses – in order to brighten up your winter moods.

aromatherapy essential oils

As we near the last few days of January, real life is starting to kick back into full gear. The holidays are feeling like distant memory, yet [unfortunately] the concept of summer is feeling even further from our grasp!

Truth: the dead of winter is the hardest time of the year for anyone to get through! It’s cold, it’s dreary, and sometimes we go through week-long stretches without seeing the sun. The struggle is real.

Recently though, I stumbled upon something that’s really helped pick me up when I’m feeling all “wintery” and down: Aromatherapy.

in-home aromatherapy

I previously had no experience with aromatherapy and had associated the term with a treatment you add on to your massage when visiting the spa. But then I stumbled upon an aromatherapy and essential oils article online and was intrigued enough to try it out for myself.

Meijer happens to have a really great selection of both diffusers and essential oils, so I picked up a handful of items and couldn’t wait to get home to put them to the test!

Want to do the same to lift your winter blues? Keep reading for my Aromatherapy 101!

essential oils and house plant

What is Aromatherapy?

By definition, “Aromatherapy” is the use of natural essential oils to improve a person’s mood and overall health. The idea is that when smelling certain scents, chemicals are released in the brain that can make you feel relaxed, calm or mentally stimulated.

Aromatherapy has been proven useful for the management of stress, anxiety, insomnia and even headaches and body aches. It can be applied by mixing the oils with a “carrier oil”–like coconut or jojoba oil–which is applied to the skin or body, or with water–such as in a bath. Or, if you prefer, use them in a diffuser, which uses an evaporating method to disperse the oils into the air. An added bonus to this method is that it acts as an air purifier as well!

diffuser and canopy

Aromatherapy Diffuser:

Speaking of diffusers, this is one of the items I picked up on my trip to Meijer. You can also purchase several different diffuser canopies (AKA covers) separately, which is a fun way to switch up the look every so often. This mercury glass canopy was my favorite and matches my decor perfectly! The diffusers also double as lights, which are perfect to keep in the bathroom as a night light.

diffuser aromatherapy light

Essential oils:

Meijer has so many amazing scents to choose from! There are typically five categories that scents will fall under–Flowery, Citrus, Spicy, Woody and Herbal–and Meijer has quite a few options under each.

Bearing this in mind, I chose a variety of scents and oil types based on these categories, and what I was hoping to achieve with my aromatherapy:

essential oils

Lavender: Falls under the floral category, this is a calming scent that helps alleviate stress and promotes sleep. I like to put this in my diffuser to help me unwind and fall asleep after a long day. I also like to drop a few droplets in the bottom of the shower to make it a spa-like experience.

Tee Tree Oil: Known for boosting the immune system, tee tree oil has many cleansing benefits. It also helps treat muscle aches, so I love using a few drops in the bath. I also just love the way it smells in general!

diffuser in bathroom

Frankincense: Another calming oil which, similar to lavender, is known for helping quiet the mind, settle restlessness and uplift your mood. This is helpful both at night before bed and anytime I need a little mood pick-me-up.

Eucalyptus: One of my favorite smells, Eucalyptus is really effective in improving breathing and clearing out sinuses. If you’re sick, this is definitely what you want to put into your diffuser! It’s also been known to help migraines and fevers. A natural antibacterial and antiseptic, you can also combine it with water to make your own natural disinfecting cleaning spray.

“Bodyguard” Blend: In addition to pure oils, Meijer also carries a variety of blends that are a combination of oils. I chose to go with the “bodyguard” blend. It makes me feel refreshed and alert, with lemon, juniper berry and rosemary. I like to use this during the day to help me focus and concentrate.

essential oils for relaxing

Whether I’m looking to slow down, focus or perk up, I’ve found that using different oils based on my moods really helps to get me out of whatever winter funk I might be in!

Have you tried it yet? What are your favorite scents?

How to Add Bold Color to Your Beauty Routine

As winter’s chill sets in, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From style tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for winter weather.

This week, we’re welcoming Andrea of blonde bedhead to help us beat winter’s drab palette with beauty routines in bold hues. Check out the three ways she uses trendy, mood shades to amp up her seasonal nail, lip and eye shadow styles.

color beauty routine bold purple lip full body shot

Winter’s grey and gloom makes it such a drab time of the year, but our beauty choices don’t have to follow suit. I live in Michigan, where our winters rank as the second most miserable in the country because of the intense cold and endless stretch of sunless, gloomy days.

It’s easy to become awash in this grey misery, but with my 30 years of winter experience, I know you can snap yourself out of that funk with some color. Read on for three tips to inject color into your winter beauty routine!

Add a Moody Nail Color

I love a deep tone on my nails this time of the year. Instead of the usual black, I’ve found more interesting deep jewel tones like metallic blues, purple and even bright blue hues. I am obsessed with Revlon and essie nail polishes, both “drugstore” and luxury polishes available at Meijer. The color variety and application make it foolproof for someone like me who struggles to perfectly paint their nails. Or you can bring the color of your choice to your nail salon for a guaranteed perfect jewel-toned manicure.

Bright Pop of Lip Color

I can’t get enough of bright blue and purple lips right now. They pair so well with a barely-there makeup look, and let the lips shine on their own. I kept it simple with foundation to even out my skin tone, a bit of bronzer for contour and a swipe of mascara.

Because it’s winter and my lips are experiencing chronic dryness, I exfoliated first and added Aquaphor healing ointment to moisturize my intensely chapped lips. After a couple of minutes, I wiped off the excess.

color beauty routine bold purple lip lipstick

Next, I lined my lips with a purple NYX lip liner and the NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Amethyst layered over top of it, although the application is easy enough that a lip liner isn’t absolutely necessary. I applied two coats to ensure an evenly distributed bold color across my lips and no need for any touch ups!

color beauty routine bold eye shadow

Shimmery, Bold Eyes

A vampy lip and a shimmery, bold eyelid are the perfect combination to break out of the winter blues. I love this look for a night out and the drama of the eyes and lips play perfectly for a drink at the bar or out on a dinner date. This makeup look made me instantly feel bright-eyed and sexy if I dare say.

color beauty routine bold eye shadow

I picked two L’Oreal shimmery eye shadows to achieve the smoky, dramatic eye, as well as NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Vintage because this formula is incredibly easy to apply, especially in rich tones that normally intimidate me. Why you ask? I don’t have a super steady hand and I need a formula that glides on, and the applicator lets me easily line my lips and fix any little mistakes I make.

Tip for making the color more intense and shimmery? Wet your brush first before applying.

Eyeshadows used:
L’Oreal Colour Riche Eyeshadow in Violet Beaute (violet colors work great for hazel/green eyes and loved the shimmery finish!)
L’Oreal Infallible 24 Hour Eyeshadow in Liquid Diamond. (The perfect loose eye shadow powder to add dimension to a dark, dramatic eye!)

Beat the Winter Skin and Hair Blues

As winter’s chill sets in, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From style tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for winter weather.

This week, we’re welcoming Natalie of Natalie in the City to share her cold-weather hair and skin care regimen to keep her locks luscious and her skin glowing all winter long.

woman-with-winter-coat

Winter takes its toll on everyone, but it may be affecting your skin and hair more than anything else. It doesn’t matter what skin type you were blessed with, freezing temps will dry out them all – and hair breakage is inevitable. So to prepare for the cold Chicago weather, I took a trip to Meijer to stock up on my beauty care must-haves.

collage-of-facial-products

I have combination/oily skin but, during winter, my skin is the furthest thing from oily, and blackheads become more evident on my entire face. To restore my natural oils and keep my pores clean, I add Garnier’s SkinActive Clean+ Blackhead Eliminating Scrub to my morning beauty routine two or three times a week. I massage it onto my face thoroughly then leave the invigorating scrub on for five minutes.

woman-using-face-wash

After rinsing the mask off, I apply Olay’s Complete All Day Moisturizer and SPF 15 for combination/oily skin. It’s critical that your winter beauty products contain SPF even if it’s gloomy outside. I also apply Olay’s Quench Ultra Moisture Body Lotion to my entire body twice a day to keep my skin moisturized and glowing.

When it comes to my hair, I have all the odds against me. My hair has made a transformation from dark brown to almost completely blonde in just one year; so keeping my hair moisturized during winter is a tough feat. I apply a Garnier Whole Blends avocado oil and shea butter mask to re-invigorate my strands three times a week in the evening. I get my hair wet before I shower and then I apply the mask generously, combing from root to tip until my hair is covered. Then I wrap my hair into a bun on top of my head and let the mask sit for 30 minutes.

The 3 Best Makeup Tutorials for All of Your Holiday Soirées

As winter’s chill sets in, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear the season’s hottest trends. From style tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for winter weather.

This week, we’re welcoming Tawny of Glamorously Mommy to share three essential makeup looks to try this holiday season, no matter how casual or elegant the event!

holiday makeup products

During the holiday season there are so many things to get excited about, such as giving gifts and the hustle and bustle of holiday shopping. But nothing – I mean NOTHING – gets me more excited than a holiday party!  As a lady who loves a good glam makeup session, I understand not everyone is up for all the glitz and glitter like me, so I’m going to show you three holiday makeup looks you can take from a daytime office holiday party to a nighttime black tie event.

For these looks, I wanted to create a basic foundation for the face, and an eye look that I could build upon.  So good news!  All of these looks were created with ONE eye shadow palette. I know that not everyone has more than one eye shadow palette so it was important that I didn’t use too many products.  Of course, all of these amazing products can be found at your local Meijer.

Maybelline Master Prime Blur + Illuminate primer

In the first look, I kept it simple.  I started by prepping my skin with the Maybelline Master Prime Blur + Illuminate primer for hydrated, illuminated, healthy-looking skin.

Maybelline DreamLUMI Touch concealer in Honey

After applying foundation, color correct with Maybelline DreamLUMI Touch concealer in Honey.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Cashmere

I started this simple eye look by applying the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Cashmere all over the lid.

NYX Dream Catcher Palette

Next, I blend out the hard lines, using the light bronze eye shadow from the NYX Dream Catcher Palette for some dimension.  Then, I used my favorite mascara Loreal Voluminous Carbon Black.

NYX Butter Gloss in Tiramisu

To finish off the look I popped on a bright pink lip liner from NXY in the color pinky.  For a bit of shine, simply add NYX Butter Gloss in Tiramisu.

The next look is just a bit more elevated.  I already had the basic eye look down, so I really didn’t have to do a lot to bump up the drama just a bit.

NYX Dream Catcher Palette in Dusk til Dawn

Using the NYX Dream Catcher Palette in Dusk til Dawn, I placed shade #6 in the outer corner of the eye for more of a smoky look.

NYX Two Timer Kohl Pencil

Liner is the key to defining any eye look and adding lots of drama. I used the NYX Two Timer Kohl Pencil to line the top lash line.  This eyeliner is really cool because it has two sides: one with a kohl liner great for smoking out any eye look, and one felt tip liner for a more precise application. Next, I popped on a bit of blush and highlighter for color.

NYX Intense Butter Gloss

Adding a bold lip is the perfect way to turn a simple look into a head-turning one.  I used a berry lip liner and added this NYX Intense Butter Gloss in toasted marshmallow for a bold berry lip that’s sure to get you noticed at any holiday party.

This next look is for your fancy parties… or if you’re just a “fancy pants” like me.  Hey, there is nothing wrong with having a little formal in your life, right?

smoky eye holiday makeup

For this look, I wanted it to be something that wasn’t too over-the-top glitzy. Start by creating a deeper crease using the black eye shadow in the palette (shown above), darkening the outer crease of the eye and the lower lash line.  This will give the effect of a more defined, smoky look.  Using a small definer brush, lightly apply a small amount of black to the outer corner, blending it very lightly.

NYX Two Timeron

Next, use the NYX Two Timeron felt tip side to create winged eyeliner on the outer corner of the eye.

KISS #11 makeup eyelashes

Ladies, lashes are where it’s at!  You can add a pair of eyelashes to elevate any eye look, but especially a smoky eye.  I used the KISS #11 lashes for this look.

Milani High Voltage red lipstick

After that, I used Milani High Voltage red lipstick to jazz up the look!

5 Ways to Relax During the Holiday Season

products-to-relax-during-the-holidays

Between family get-togethers, shopping for gifts and maintaining your daily routine, we all know that the holiday season isn’t completely stress-free. While it’s always important to make time for yourself to relax and unwind, it’s especially crucial to do so during this busy time of year. So if you’re in need of a little TLC, here are a few easy (and affordable!) ways to de-stress this season.

natural-scented-body-wash-and-lotion

1. Swap your usual body wash + lotion combo for a nature-inspired scent, like Bodycology’s cherry blossom or Calgon’s Hawaiian ginger. The aromas are understated, yet crisp and fresh, so you’ll feel totally reinvigorated when you step out of the shower.

2. Take a long, warm bath before you hit the hay, adding lavender-scented Epsom salt for an extra-soothing effect. Use a body scrub to exfoliate your skin while you soak, then apply Dr. Teal’s lavender body lotion after you towel off to keep your skin hydrated. If your skin is scorched from the brisk winter air, apply body oil instead of lotion – it’s a more concentrated form of hydration to soothe extra dry skin.

pure-clay-face-mask

3. Give yourself a DIY facial. Prep your skin with your usual cleanser before applying a brightening clay mask. Try the Pure-Clay Detox & Brighten Treatment Mask from L’Oréal to revive dull skin, or opt for an exfoliating charcoal mask to remove dead skin cells. Let the mask sit for 10-15 minutes, and then remove it with warm water using circular motions. Finish with a fragrance-free face moisturizer, and you’ll look like you have your holiday list handled.

hair-mask

4. If your hair appears dry and brittle from the cold, use a mask like Garnier Whole Blends to revitalize your strands. After washing your hair with your go-to shampoo, apply a generous amount of the treatment to your locks. Make sure you cover your hair from root to end, then let the mask work its magic by leaving it on for three minutes. The rich repairing treatment strengthens hair and helps prevent split ends and breakage, making it even easier to style for those upcoming holiday parties.

herbal-tea-and-dark-chocolate

5. Finally, light a few candles, get lost in your favorite book and treat yourself to some dark chocolate and a warm cup of herbal tea. The hot drink will be a welcome break from the brisk, chilly air, and the candle’s sounds and aromas will soothe your stress away.

With these simple tips, it’s never been easier to stay relaxed throughout the holiday season!
