The Best Three Fall Eye Makeup Trends to Try

As fall transitions us to cooler months, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear this season’s hottest trends. From style tips to makeup trends to home décor, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas gear up for fall weather.

This week, we’re welcoming Jess from The Golden Girl to share the eye makeup trends she’s looking forward to most for fall, and what products you need to pull them off.

While I am never one to wish summer would come to an end, there are some pretty charming things about fall that I look forward to every year. #1–Football. (Okay, fine, I mean…snacks. Isn’t that why everyone likes football?) and #2–the chance to mix up your style! That doesn’t apply to just boots, jeans, and sweaters, but makeup too!

I’m so excited to show you three easily attainable beauty looks for fall. Yep–with just a few products you can buy from Meijer required for each look, and some no-fail techniques, you’ll be on your way out the door in no time.

Makeup Collage

Look #1: Subtle Shimmer

Metallic shimmer in hues of white and silver were spotted quite a few times on the fall runway this year! I was immediately drawn to this look because a touch of light sheen on the inner eyes tends to make them look bright and dewy. (Very necessary for busy girls who don’t get much sleep!) Often times, I don’t wear a ton of makeup–so this look is perfect for girls who tend to err on the more “au natural” side. I love how it’s fresh-faced, with a little bit of pizazz.

The best part about it? It only takes a couple of products to do, and it doesn’t take any precision. (No tricky eyeliner techniques required!)

First, I started by curling my lashes–something that is absolutely mandatory with this girl. (Stick-straight, stubby lashes over here!) I really like ELF’s eyelash curler–it does a great job, with no pinching!

Next, I applied mascara–I used L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara, which adds tons of volume to my sparse lashes!

For the finishing steps, I lined my eyes with NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in color #608. Swipe on a light gloss, like NYX Butter Gloss–and you’re out the door!

Easy, right? If you want a bit more “oomph,” move on to Look #2!

Look #2: Twiggy Lashes

I don’t know what it is, but I’m a total sucker for anything 60’s inspired–so I was very excited to see thick, Twiggy-inspired lashes all over the runway this year. To get this look, I used ELF “Natural Lashes” false eyelashes. I like this set because it comes with a mini tube of glue, so you don’t need to buy anything extra!

Misc Product Shots

You could easily add them onto look #1, or just add them to natural makeup for some extra pop. Tip: Measure the strips for length by placing them on your eye first. Trim them as necessary. Then, apply the glue, wait for 15-20 seconds for it to set, and apply to your lash-line. If you don’t get it right the first time, you can totally peel them off (gently) and try again.

When it comes to false lashes, practice makes perfect! After this, I then lined the inside of my upper eyelids with Maybelline’s Master Kajal eyeliner. This not only makes your eyes pop, but ensures there isn’t an obvious line between where the fake lashes begin and your natural lashes end.

To finish off this girly look, I just added more blush (the same as above) to the apples of my cheeks for a feminine, rosy glow. Finally, I lined my lips with NYX Lip Liner in “Nude Pink” which provides extra staying power–and finished with NYX Butter Gloss in “Creme Brulee” which is the perfect, soft pink for this subtle, yet glamorous look.

Look #3: Smoldering Liner

If you’re really looking to turn your look up a notch, you’ll love this sultry look perfect for a dolled up night on the town, a wedding, or other formal occasion. The smokey eye is certainly not a new trend, but thick, dark, charcoal liner? Spotted on nearly every runway this fall–and while many trends certainly aren’t for the faint of heart, this is one everyone can get behind!

I love that you can make this particular liner as heavy or light as you want. You can use it to line your inner rims and outer lash lines–plus, it goes on really easy, so it’s not too hard to apply.

Good news for ladies like me? This look is supposed to look a little messy. (As in a, “I totally meant to do that” way–not a “I tried 5 times this morning and this is as good as it’s going to get” type of way.) A sultry “perfectly undone” if you will.

You can totally build off the steps we went through in our previous looks, but you don’t have to. Here, I’m applying this on top of my fake eyelashes for a really dramatic look, but it will look just as great with your natural lashes as well.

All I did was line the rims of my eyes with the same liner, Maybelline’s Master Kajal in “Onyx Rush.” Then, I dabbed on a bit of Maybelline’s 24 Hour Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow in “Deep Forest” which is a gorgeous, smokey green hue–a great alternative if you aren’t looking to go super-smokey black.

To finish off the look, I added a swipe of dramatic red lipstick–NYC lipstick in color #511.

There you have it! Three totally achievable and attainable looks for fall! Which one is your favorite?

Summer Vacation Essentials: The Best Camping Hairstyle & Skincare Tips

This summer, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to showcase the season’s hottest trends. From style trends to home décor tips, we love seeing how these fashionistas celebrate the warm weather.

This week, we’re welcoming Melissa from The Bee’s Knees to share her best tips and must have products for an uncomplicated beauty routine while camping (or glamping!) one last time this summer.

Glamping 4

Camping is one of my all time favorite summer activities! I feel like I get to see more unique places and things and also connect more with nature when I’m out in the woods with my tent. Here’s what I don’t like: bathroom runs in the middle of the night (ha) and keeping up with my normal beauty routine. Everything can seem a bit more complicated without the amenities of home. That’s why I’m here to share some of my favorite beauty products and tips with you for camping, or ‘glamping.’ Wink.

First things first, it’s time to simplify. And as with any good trip, this will take a little planning, but it’s so worth it. Create a checklist of all the things you’d normally take on a trip and trim it down. Way down. What do you ‘really’ need? Narrow down your list and go from there.

Here are a few items that made the cut on my ‘must have’ camping checklist (and bonus, they’re all from Meijer. No extra shopping stops needed!):

1. Skincare Products: Garnier Skin Active Micellar Cleansing Water & Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30

Glamping 9

Both of these products are amazing for camping. The Micellar cleansing water is ideal if you don’t have access to a bathroom with running water. It removes makeup, cleanses and refreshes all in one! Perfect. This Aveeno daily moisturizer has also become a favorite of mine. It packs a serious SPF punch (30) and doesn’t even feel like you’re wearing sunscreen!

2. Sunscreen: Sun Bum SPF 50

Glamping 5

Listen, we’re adults. We all know the dangers of prolonged sun exposure and looming threat of skin cancer. Just be safe and use sunscreen! I love this one by Sun Bum. It has no parabens or oils and won’t block your pores. It also claims to be anti-aging and hypoallergenic. I wore this in 95-degree weather at the water park and didn’t burn at ‘all.’ I call that a win!

3. Makeup: Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer, Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon in Niagara Overlook, Maybelline Brow Drama in Deep Brown and Rimmel London Scandal Eyes in Extreme Black

Glamping 7

Glamping 6

This may seem like quite the lineup of beauty items but let me assure you I can apply all of these products in less than 15 minutes. Not bad! I don’t like to spend a lot of time on makeup when I’m camping. I prefer a more natural look. These products are perfect for looking a bit undone but still put together. The butter bronzer can be applied all over the face using the sponge applicator that comes in the compact (one of the few I actually like). Just don’t go too heavy. The Maybelline brow drama really helps add definition and color to the brows! Finish up with two coats of mascara and the lip crayon—this is my favorite Burt’s Bees color.

Glamping 3

4. Hair Products: Batiste Dry Shampoo, Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Spray and Goody Ouchless hair ties

Glamping 8

This is all I need for my hair when camping! Beach spray, dry shampoo, hair ties, done. The beach spray is the perfect product for air-drying your hair and the dry shampoo helps stretch your style so you’re not washing it every day (how annoying, right?). And the Goody hair ties are perfect for upgrading your traditional ponytail or bun. I love the patterns on them!

This is my go-to camping hairstyle, and most definitely how you’d find me if you ran into me at a state park:

Glamping 2

To get this look just apply the beach spray to damp hair and let it dry. Then section off the top part of the hair and pull it through a half pony loop, to be secured with a cute Goody hair tie. That’s it! Easy peasy.

Happy Glamping!

Back-to-College 101: 8 Shower Caddy Essentials

The first day of the semester is just around the corner, which means the return of homework, all-nighters and residence halls. While you’re probably prepared with your school supplies and dorm décor, it can be easy to forget about shower necessities. Whether you’re sharing a bathroom with your roommate or your entire floor this year, here are eight shower caddy essentials to always have on hand:

Shower Caddy

1. After a long day filled with classes and homework, give your face some much needed TLC with Clean & Clear Deep Action Exfoliating Scrub. Its oil-free formula reaches deep to the pores to dissolve dirt, oil and even makeup, leaving your face feeling clean and refreshed.

2. Between school, sleep and your social life, a few minutes to spare are far and few between. Save time in the shower with Dove Purely Pampering Nourishing Body Wash – it cleanses AND moisturizes, so you don’t have to worry about lotion post-rinse.

3. Gently exfoliate while you shower with a colorful Net Sponge. It’s a simple step and your skin will thank you!

4. Early first semester, the weather is still warm and shorts are still an option. Invest in a Gillette Venus & Olay Disposable Razor to keep your legs looking smooth in class and after hours.

5. To achieve legs that are both soft and smooth, incorporate Gillette Venus Shave Gel with Olay into your shaving routine. It has 5 times the moisture of a regular bar of soap!

6. For those mornings you oversleep before your 8 a.m. class, have a Bath Collection Animal Print Shower Cap on hand. By keeping your hair dry during a quick in-and-out rinse, you’ll be ready to go and on your way in no time! (Check out these easy ideas for second-day hair – you can thank us later).

7. On mornings you do have time for shampoo and conditioner, use OGX Rejuvenating Cherry Blossom Ginseng. Its soothing blend of extracts will hydrate your hair, giving it the ultimate shine – not to mention a delicious scent.

8. If you’re on a time crunch and need dry hair stat, use a Goody QuikStyle Water Wicking Shower Comb. It reduces water by 20 percent and removes moisture with every stroke.

4 Ways to Style Second (or Third!) Day Hair

Whether you’re late to your morning class or just trying to get your kids out the door, your hair might not always get the loving attention it deserves. Thankfully, it’s never been easier to turn yesterday’s style into a day two ‘do.

From easy side-braids to spray-and-go beach waves, these step-by-step tutorials will keep your hair looking fresh no matter when your last shampoo was.

1. Fake a Blowout

No one has to know your voluminous style is thanks to some crafty hairspray techniques.

Step 1: Spray your strands with Big Sexy Hair dry shampoo to lift any oil from your roots.

Step 2: To make sure the spray is evenly distributed, shake out your hair using your fingers. To eliminate excess dust from the dry shampoo, remember to massage the strands at your scalp.

Step 3: For extra hold, mist your locks with hairspray with your head upside down. This creates more volume and is the perfect final touch for a tousled summer style.

2. Boho Side Braid

The secret: pull your hair in front of your shoulder to avoid second day strands looking slicked back.

Step 1: For all-over texture that’s easier to style, mist dry hair with göt2b beach trippin’ salt infusion waving spray.

Step 2: Pull hair to one side and begin a loose braid. Leave a few strands out in the front to create a casual, relaxed look.

Step 3: Spray your braid and bangs with hairspray so the style stays in place.

3. Laidback Beach Waves

Bonus – your natural oils will help protect strands from heat damage. Hello, guilt-free curling.

Step 1: Mist John Frieda Beach Blonde Sea Waves spray onto yesterday’s style to add texture and grit.

Step 2: Heat up a curling wand and loosely wrap your hair around the iron. Hold for a few seconds, then shake the curl out. (Note: If your hair doesn’t hold curl well, let your strands cool before taking this step.)

4. Chic Ponytail

A sophisticated pony balanced with sky-high volume.

Step 1: Perfect for day-after curls or beach waves. To start, smooth your strands back with a bristle brush.

Step 2: Secure your ponytail with a clear elastic hair tie.

With these simple styles, your hair will look just as great on day two as day one.

The Best Summer Hair Products to Combat Humidity

This summer, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to showcase the season’s hottest trends. From style trends to home décor tips, we love seeing how these fashionistas celebrate the warm weather.

We love using natural products to breathe new life into our beauty routines, so this week we’re welcoming Sam from Samantha Elizabeth to share how she uses different oils to keep her hair silky smooth no matter how humid it gets.

The Midwest has been experiencing a late spring/early summer heat wave and the humidity that comes along with it can be a tad unbearable at times. While I love summers in the Midwest, my hair definitely does not. I fight the urge every day to admit defeat and just throw it up in a ponytail, but thankfully I’ve recently found products to help me wear it down.

One of the main ways that I like to battle the frizz and fluff is with hair products that aim to moisturize and smooth. I found two great items from Meijer that help me get the job done. In order to wear my hair down on these beautiful summer days; I use a two-step process, which includes using products in wet hair, and then adding a little bit on finished dry hair.

While I am in the shower I shampoo and condition my hair as usual, then while still in the shower I use a quarter size amount of Argan Oil of Morocco Miracle In-Shower Oil in my palm and run it through my hair, being sure to focus on the lower half of my hair so that I don’t get too greasy up toward my roots. (Use a dime size amount if your hair is thin, I have very thick hair so the more the merrier for me!) I let the oil sit for a few minutes and then rinse it out thoroughly. This product is wonderful because it nourishes and repairs, which adds moisture and also smoothes my hair cuticles so that I am set and ready before I start styling.

Once I get out of the shower, I comb through my damp hair and use Garnier Whole Blends Smoothing Oil focusing on applying a dime to quarter size amount on the ends. Next, I use a blow dryer on my roots to keep the volume but let the rest of my hair air-dry to limit the heat and reduce frizz. After styling my hair, I use the just a littlest bit of the Garnier Whole Blends Smoothing Oil again to finish the look! I love this product because it contains coconut oil and cocoa butter extracts, which I can feel penetrating my hair immediately as I apply it. It also smells amazing and adds shine, giving me the sleek look I want without weighing my hair down.

After I am finished styling my hair, I head out enjoy the weather with limited fear that I’ll end up looking like a poodle by the end of the day. I highly recommend using hair oils to style your hair with confidence this summer. Bring on the humidity!

Boho Braids in 6 Easy Steps

With casual-cool styles dominating summer trends, it can be easy to hit the streets without giving your hair a second thought. Instead of falling back on your go-to everyday hairstyle, elevate your laidback look with a no-fuss, boho-inspired braid.

With a few texturizing sprays and clear elastic hair ties, here’s how to get the look in six easy steps.

Step 1: The foundation of this look is all-over texture, so second day hair works best for styling. To start, use a Bed Head High Roller Curling Iron Wand to create loose waves. Avoid leaving your hair on the iron too long – this will help you attain perfectly relaxed curls.

When you’re finished curling, mist your locks with Not Your Mother’s Sea Salt Spray for texture and L’Oreal® Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray for long-lasting hold.

Step 2: On one side, divide the front section of your hair into two pieces.

Step 3: Braid the back section of hair, leaving the strands closest to your face alone (for now). Secure the end of the braid with a clear rubber band.

Step 4: Slightly twist the front section back over the braided piece and add a small section from the other side of the head.

Step 5: Secure the pieces from each side together with a rubber band.

Step 6: Braid the secured section of hair to complete the look.

With these dual braids, it’s never been easier to mix up your hair routine and try a boho-inspired style.

The 5 Beauty Trends to Try For Festival Season

From minimalistic makeup to effortless hairstyles, we can’t get enough of the carefree festival looks that have been filling our Instagram feeds for the past few weeks. Soft and feminine with a hint of modern metallics, these beauty trends are sure to last long after the last show of the season.

1. Body Art

Skip the messy body paint and use lip liner for a design that’ll last all day. Try adding stars near your temple or hearts on your cheek for a modern take on the face paints we loved as kids.

2. Metallic Manicure

While festival style is usually au natural, we love metallic manicures that give our nails a little something extra. Neutral shades are the perfect complement to 70s-inspired boho prints, while bolder pinks and purples add a pop of color to casual outfits.

3. Loose Curls

If braids are the unofficial hairstyle of music festivals, second-day curls are a close second. Fake natural curls by twisting ends around pig tails at night, set with a sea salt hair spray, and let loose in the morning for perfectly messy curls.

4. Blue Eye Shadow

Forget the blue shadows of the mid 80s – this eye makeup trend is anything but retro. Icy hues in matte or metallic, this modern take on cool blues is quickly becoming the “it” eye shadow of summer. Try a cream-based shadow stick for easy application, and finish with two coats of black mascara for an even more dramatic look.

5. Dark Polish Pedicures

Instead of bright neon toes that coordinate with the rest of your outfit, this year it’s all about sophisticated midnight shades. Think deep emerald, rich eggplant and classic navy to take your look to the next level.

The Must-Have Lip Color for Summer

Whether you opt for the no-makeup look to complement your fair skin or prefer bold metallic shades to bring out your dark complexion, there’s one lip color that’s universally flattering: deep berry. This spring, try this statement hue in a modern matte finish to add a pop of color to your beauty routine.

To get the look that’s been all over the runways this season, keep the rest of your makeup to a minimum and allow your lipstick to make the statement.

Clockwise, from top: Maybelline Lip Studio Color Blur in Partner in Crimson, Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes in Siren in Scarlet and Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Matte Liquid in Orange Shot.

With a bold lip color in your makeup bag, it’s never been easier to get that classic Americana look without breaking the bank.

8 Simple Steps for Festival-Ready Hair

While it’s no secret that the style of the season is boho, it’s the romantic hairstyles that are bringing that carefree spirit to life. Unlike elaborate up-dos that require a half a bottle of hairspray to secure, festival styles are much more loose and relaxed. All you need is a thin lace scarf and a few bobby pins to hold it in place.

Hair Post Picture 1

Step 1: Add some texture to your hair, either by reviving second-day curls with dry shampoo or amplifying your natural waves.

Step 2: Part your hair down the middle, then place the center of the scarf near the hairline on your neck.

Hair Post Picture 2

Step 3: Take one section of hair and twist it evenly around the scarf, all the way down.

Step 4: Wrap the scarf up towards your face and pin to the top of your head.

Hair Post Picture 3

Step 5: Repeat steps 3-4 on the opposite side.

Step 6: Wrap the rest of the scarf back around your head and knot at the lower hairline.

Hair Post Picture 4

Step 7: Secure any loose hair with pins.

Step 8: Finish the style by pulling out a few small pieces of hair in front.

Next time, instead of pulling your hair back into a basic pony, try a festival-inspired look that’s just as easy to achieve.

Behind-the-Scenes Secrets to a Camera-Ready Beauty Routine

Edited Image

Seeing models in a photo shoot makes us wonder what their beauty secrets are – their makeup is perfectly applied and their hair, carefully styled. To learn how to achieve this look at home for less, we caught up with Chrisondra Boyd, one of our hair and makeup stylists for our summer photo shoot. By following these simple steps, you’ll be ready for your close-up in no time.

When choosing a foundation, it’s important to identify the right shade for your skin. According to Chrisondra, the secret to finding your perfect match is to choose a shade based on the color of your neck. For those whose skin changes color with the seasons, you may need to mix colors or use different shades for different parts of the year – think warm in the summer and cool undertones in the winter.

Once you’ve found your perfect shade, use your finger to warm up the foundation and apply it to your face like a moisturizer. Chrisondra used Maybelline BB Cream (which also serves as a sunscreen) to achieve a natural, fresh-faced, minimalistic look.

Pro Tip: The best technique to keep your hair out of the way during application is to pin it back. To prevent a crease, use a small piece of paper towel between the clip and your hair.

Before moving on to your eye shadow, apply a concealer to your lids – this will help your shade last all day. During this step, opt for using your fingers instead of a makeup brush for more even application.

When choosing a hue for your baby blues, consider which shade works best with your eye color. Chrisondra went with a shimmery beige from Maybelline’s Blushed Nudes palette for a natural sheen that will make the eyes pop. To apply, use a small brush.

Next, grab some blush to give your cheeks a rosy glow. Try Maybelline’s Master Contour kit – it includes a shade for contouring, blush and highlighting. To apply, she used a brush from e.l.f. – the best-kept secret for inexpensive beauty tools.

Pro Tip: To ensure that you’re applying your blush in the right areas, smile to accentuate your cheekbones and swipe the color across them.

To achieve effortless, beachy waves that will complement your minimal makeup, Chrisondra recommends using a ½” curling wand. Take a one inch section of hair and begin loosely wrapping it around the iron, away from your face. Hold the hair there for no longer than ten seconds, then release. Repeat the process around your head, making sure to wrap your strands the opposite way on the opposite side.

Pro Tip: Hair curls best when it has some texture, which is why second day hair works great for this look. If you have recently washed it, use a texturizing product like Beach Babe texturing spray or Not Your Mother’s before styling.

Before setting your curls with hairspray, run your fingers through your hair – that’s how you get the boho waves that have been all over the runways this season.

Pro Tip: Adding a messy tuck behind your ear will make your look a little cooler and more casual.

With these model secrets, laid-back summer beauty has never been easier.

The Best No-Makeup Makeup Routine

This spring, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear this season’s hottest trends. From makeup tutorials to style tips, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas take runway trends and make them all their own.

This week, we’re welcoming LJ from A Journey East to share her go-to makeup routine for the season—and the perfect products for a quick and natural look.

‘No Makeup Makeup’ is one of my favorite beauty trends to fall back on during the warm spring and summer months. It’s fuss-free yet flattering, and the best part is that all of these products can be picked up at Meijer!

I like to start with smooth, clean skin. The Garnier Clean Gentle Clarifying Cleansing Gel is perfect for sensitive skin and quickly removes any leftover makeup or dirt from the day before.

1 and 2-01

  1. To start, I prime my eyes with the Maybelline Master Prime and gently pat it onto my eyelids with my ring finger. Primer helps your shadow stay on and also helps the colors appear more vibrant.
  1. Next, taking the e.l.f. Eyeshadow Brush, I gently pat the lightest beige colored shadow from the Maybelle The NUDES Palette all over my lid.

3 and 4-01

  1. Using a warmer taupe color and the e.l.f. Blending Eye Brush, I define my crease a bit with the warmer tone. I use windshield wiper motions for this step, adding a bit more color to my brush until the desired shade is achieved.
  1. Finally, taking the same brush and the darkest matte brown shade in the palette, I create soft little V’s on the edge of my lids. This helps make the eye shadow look a bit more intense. Since this is a ‘No Makeup Makeup’ look, I’m using very light hands to create the most natural look that I can.

5 and 6-01

  1. On to mascara! I have two that I love lately: The Wet n Wild Max Volume PLUS and the Maybelline The Falsies Push Up Drama. I use the Maybelline mascara first since it has a wetter consistency, and then I follow up with the Wet n Wild product.
  1. For foundation, I really like using BB Creams. They contain light coverage, SPF, moisturizer and primer all in one! The Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream in Medium is a longtime favorite of mine. I dab this in 56 areas of my face with my finger.

7 and 8-01

  1. The e.l.f. Blending Brush is super soft and works great for applying any liquid foundation.
  1. The Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser in Honey is the best for concealing dark circles. I like to create upside down triangles right under my bottom lid and then blend out with a soft brush.

9 and 10-01

  1. For any blemishes like acne or dark spots, I use the wet n wild CoverAll Liquid Concealer Wand.
  1. My eyebrows are already pretty full, but using the NYC Lovatics by Demi Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown helps define and shape them up just a bit. I really like the little brush on the end of the pencil, as it helps smooth my brows after filling them in.

11 and 12-01

  1. I create subtle “C” shapes from my jaw to my temples with the e.l.f. Bronzer Palette and wet n wild Contouring Brush. Then, using the wet n wild Foundation brush and just a dab of bronzer, I draw two straight lines down the bridge of my nose for a natural slimming effect.
  1. Using the same brush, I take Milani’s Rose Powder Blush in Romantic Rose and add a conservative amount to my cheekbones.

13 and 14-01

  1. I like to wait until after my face makeup is done to apply mascara to my bottom lashes to avoid smudging. This time I’ll be using the wet n wild Max Volume PLUS.
  1. For my lips, I have been loving the wet n wild Velvet Matte Lip Color in Bare it All. Then I apply the NYX Liquid Shine Cream Lipstick in Sandstorm on top, creating a matte effect. I then gently blot my lips with tissue to make the lip color look as natural as possible. This combination is what I like to call “My Lips But Better.”

This look is perfect for those on a time crunch, as it typically only takes me a few minutes to apply. I love how natural this looks, while still adding a bit of glam to my day.

How to Get Your Feet Sandal-Ready

This spring, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they wear this season’s hottest trends. From makeup tutorials to style tips, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas take runway trends and make them all their own.

This week, we’re welcoming Sam from Samantha Elizabeth to show us how she pampers her feet with a DIY pedicure. This easy 8-step routine will make sure your toes are as ready as you are for the warmer months ahead.

This warmer spring weather has me dreaming of summer days that are right around the corner! It also has me realizing that my feet and toes need a little TLC. I sadly noticed how I’ve neglected them all winter long. Today I am taking you through a simple step-by-step process on how you can give yourself an enjoyable home pedicure that will brighten up your tootsies and make them feel loved again! And I’ve found some amazing products from Meijer to help with the process.

Step 1: Soak feet for about 15 minutes in a bowl or container of warm water with a dissolved cup of Dr. Teal’s Epsom Bath Salt.

Step 2: Once feet look and feel soft and supple, take them out of the water and dry them off. Then gently, yet vigorously, scrub any callouses and rough spots with this easy-to-use handheld Kiss Pedicure File.

Step 3: Since my toenails aren’t very long, I simply used the emery board from this really convenient Red Carpet Manicure Accessories Kit to file and shape them.

Step 4: Also in the Red Carpet Manicure Accessories Kit is a cuticle and pro black buffing stick. I used the buffing stick to push back my cuticles while they were still soft and cleaned the nail beds gently.

Step 5: Time for the first base coat of nail polish! I have always been an OPI fan and love that Meijer has a wide selection of OPI nail polish! I made sure to grab the OPI Start to Finish Base Coat, Top Coat and Strengthener. This 3 in 1 combo is a simple and convenient way to make sure your color lasts.

Step 6: I let the base coat dry (it dries super quick, another thing I love about OPI products). For the color, I used OPI Red (NL L72). The color included some really red hues but also had a bit of a pink tone to it that I liked. I felt it would warm up my (currently pale) skin – and it did! I then used the OPI Start to Finish and applied a thin top coat to protect my color!

Step 7: Then I applied a Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Crème all over my feet and ankles. The moisture it provides did just the trick to leave my feet looking fresh and sandal ready!

Step 8: I also love the look of a dainty and stylish anklet. I found this lovely one in Meijer’s jewelry section and felt it did just the trick to finish the total look.

When everything was said and done, my feet felt amazing. I love the feeling of clean, fresh, relaxed feet and toes. I can’t wait to dig out my warm weather sandals and open-toed shoes!

This spring, we’re partnering with our favorite style bloggers to show us how they style this season’s hottest trends. From makeup tutorials to style tips, we’re excited to see how these fashionistas take trends and make them all their own.

This week, we’re welcoming Samantha Elizabeth to share her favorite eco-friendly beauty products! Below, she shares six easy ways to refresh your beauty routine with eco-friendly products.

finished eco-friendly beauty look

I’ve been on the hunt for eco-friendly and affordable beauty products for a while now and was excited to find the perfect items at Meijer! I found six items that created a simple, quick, everyday look. And the best part is that all of the items are safe from harsh chemicals and are eco-friendly!

Cleanser: I first washed my face with this amazing Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration Cream Cleanser. I always tend to have skin that is drier, so finding a cleanser that left it feeling soft and subtle was such a win in my book. It is always a good idea to start with a clean, fresh palette before applying makeup.

Lip Balm: Not only is my skin dry, but my lips can get dry and cracked as well. I found this lovely Honest Company Lip Balm (it came in a pack of 3 for only $10!) that is 100 percent certified organic and kept my lips hydrated all day long!

Moisturizer: Next, I smoothed Physicians Formula Organic Wear Tinted Moisturizer in Light to Natural over my entire face, focusing on adding a little more under my eyes, around my nose and chin. The tinted moisturizer has SPF 15 in it, which is a must for my lighter skin tone. I also used Physicians Formula Gentle Wear Loose Powder to set the tinted moisturizer. The combination of the two created just the right amount of coverage without feeling like too much.

Blush: Once I had applied the tinted moisturizer and loose powder, my lips felt nice and hydrated. I added some color to my cheeks using the Balm Cosmetics blush. This blush is amazing and the packaging is adorable. I used the Swiss Dot color, which warmed up my skin just enough without overdoing it.

Mascara: After my skin was complete, I made sure to add just a little drama to the eyes using Physicians Formula Organic Wear, Work It Mascara. I used the Work It Mascara because it is waterproof! Usually I am hesitant to add mascara to my lower lashes but this product separated each lash so beautifully I couldn’t resist, and no smudging!

Lip Color: Last but not least, I went for lip color by Burt’s Bees – the Blush Basin color went on beautifully over my already moisturized lips. Topping off the six-step look, it was just the right shade to match nicely with my rosy cheek color.

How to Pick the Perfect Midnight Nail Polish

While there will always be a special place in our hearts for bright reds and oranges to welcome another summer, this year we find ourselves reaching for darker shades. Instead of picking up a coral pink or sunny yellow that reminds us of warm afternoons to come, what about choosing a nail polish that evokes a cool summer’s night?

This season, our toes are rocking dark shades of polish – from glittery navy to deep red – with a little extra shine to reflect on-trend metallics.

Don’t know where to start? We know how to get your feet ready for sandal season with our favorite midnight shades and a surprisingly simple pedicure tutorial.

It’s no surprise that the deep, dark tones create a perfect contrast to bright accessories and sandals. Though this versatile trend works for a manicure as well as a pedicure, we especially love the extra attention for our recently-refreshed feet.

Choose a Color

While blues tend to be playful and bold, shades of navy are as sophisticated as they come. Revlon Nail Enamel in Urban is an on-trend shade with just a touch of reflective sparkle, while deep oxblood is another way to show your chic side. Just make sure to find shades with cool undertones.

For something brighter, try adding Essie Color Effects in Jazzy Jubilant over your favorite jewel tone polish. With a base of classic deep red, its glitter of varying sizes adds some serious sparkle.

And if you’re ready to dive deep into a midnight shade, there’s no better choice than an almost-black hue. Revlon Nail Enamel in Seductive balances its black-as-night shade with a hint of deep red for dimension.

Get the Look

Once you’ve picked your polish, get the look with this simple four-step pedicure that’ll have you ready for your first barefoot step out the door this season.

Step 1: Clean and prep your nails with your favorite base coat. As tempting as it can be to skip this step, it’s your base coat that will help the polish last.

Step 2: In order to get that extra-deep midnight color, apply two coats of nail polish. Multiple coats take longer to dry, but we’ve never complained about an excuse to watch another episode of our favorite show.

Step 3: Next, create a glitter effect with Essie’s Jazzy Jubilant. Dip a toothpick into the jar to collect the sparkles and dab as much as you’d like onto your nail, though we suggest a thin coat directly over your nail bed.

Step 4: Finish off the perfect pedicure by applying your favorite top coat to make your polish last for a few weeks – or at least until you’re ready to try the next midnight shade!

So whether you’re headed to the beach or just pretending you are, don’t forget to keep your toes looking as confidant as you are in sophisticated midnight shades.
