This week we’re welcoming KJ of xo mrs. measom to share her favorite styling ideas for potted plants to spruce up the inside of your home.
Spring usually means floral prints and pastels, but summer is all about the greenery. To help bring a little of that green into your home this season, I’m teaming up with Meijer to share my indoor plant tips.
My advice: look for plants that are swoon-worthy, but also useful. Cultivating a plant that provides more than just visual appeal helps keep it alive, and if you’re like me, that’s a major must because #blackthumb. So instead of just tucking a fern in the corner and hoping it lives, here are three useful ways to add plants to your home décor this season.
Reason 1: Brighten Up End Tables and Entryways – And Improve Air Quality!
Green goes with everything, and the bright shade makes both woods and metals pop. Place plants in any room to bring in some life and to create a light vibe. Live plants are also awesome for air quality! So not only can they make your coffee table picture-perfect, they’re also improving the air in your home. Win-win!
Reason 2: Bring Life Into Your Kitchen – And Enjoy Fresh Herbs!
DIY gardens are always a good idea, and herbs are the loveliest to have on hand if you’re a food lover like me. Don’t be afraid to try your hand at an indoor herb garden. Buy a few different bushels, give them a planting, and watch them grow. They smell great (nothing like coming home to the smell of fresh rosemary or lavender), they taste delicious, and it also helps give you an instant sense of accomplishment. Seeing something you’re taking care of come to life and flourish does wonders for mood.
To create your own, simply layer a bit of fresh soil on the bottom of your planter (make sure it has a draining hole in the bottom!), and loosen the roots of your plants before adding them to your planter. By giving the roots a light shake, they’ll acclimate to their new home much quicker. Add some clothing pins to identify your plants, and decorate by placing with other farm-inspired accessories.
Reason 3: Brighten Your Cleaning Routine – And Grow Your Own Skin-Saver!
I found this aloe plant and had to load it into my little kit by the sink. With summer coming in hot, a little fresh aloe is a must. If someone gets a little sunburn, this stuff will be a lifesaver, and the terra cotta pot makes for a great pop of contrast against the metal of the basket. Cute and useful #winning!
Anything that combines home décor and a useful life-hack: count me in. So what are you waiting for?
